So is 1.7.10 gonna also get a rewrite with the same features as 1.9/10? Cause I thought only 1.9+ was getting a rewrite. If yes then that's great cause I prefer 1.7.10.
And about the bigboy. Alright Cool, that will be a good edition to traincraft. (And a big one..)
Amerem is correct.1.7.10 will get a rewrite (it should be the first rewrite actually), but the features will be a bit different.
The best example is multiple riders. I have spent the past 6 days, going on 7 now, getting the system working. The issue is that 1.7.10 just wasn't built to support this sort of thing, and I'm going to have to use some form of 'seat entity' to be the middleman between the train and the player.
And I'm not even fully sure if this plan will work. And if it doesn't I will be forced to skip the feature until 1.9+ where it is supported by minecraft/forge.
Other under-the-hood features will also be rather different in 1.9+ because it offers some better designed functionality for various stuff, one example is getting an entity from world using a UUID, that's an inbuilt feature in 1.9+, but in 1.7 I have had to make my own version which is less efficient due to how 1.7 is designed.
That being said I also want to make it clear that currently traincraft has two rewrites, with two different visions, being built for different versions of minecraft.
- I'm running a rewrite for 1.7.10 that is designed so I can easily port it to future versions (currently planned is 1.9 and 1.10). Mine will have a number of features TC never had, and some aspects will be designed totally different in gameplay from previous versions of TC, mostly rails.
- Canitzp however also has his own version of TC with his own vision of how it's supposed to be done, currently his version is being developed for 1.11.2. I'm not sure on his plans honestly, but I know his vision is quite different from mine in a large number of aspects. I respect that though, which is why I do not plan to release my version of TC on versions of minecraft that he is supporting.
with the multi seat thing, maybe try looking at how RTM did his seats, the only thing I hated with RTM (other than the annoying code on every new install) was that anyone sitting in a seat was prone to just facing one direction in the world, the train would move around you and rotate accordingly but your character would just stay facing whatever direction you were facing, you could rotate your character though, but it seemed kind of odd to me.
Thank you guys so much for what you have done, finally we got traincraft for 1.7.10 and we can see its future being so much rich and variegated.
When everything in the rewrites is fine, please consider taking a look at push-pull operation for trains (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Push–pull_train) beacuse this can be a very nice and useful feature for train mods (In passenger trains there is no need to move loco on the other end of train or, in case of one loco at each end of the train, manually change pulling and pushing locos every time at the end of a journey or in complex railways)

yeah this sort of thing isn't difficult, I already override the player model to change the scale and i could add in an optional ability to force the rotation of the train/rollingstock in the same class (it would only be an extra 4 lines of code to what's already there), Honestly I had been planning this, although you indirectly gave me the idea to make it optional, so thanks.
It's the seats themselves that have been far more difficult than I ever would have imagined. If i was working in 1.9+ it would have been done in less than a day due to how passengers are dealt with there.
But the good news is I finally got fully working seats today, so I just have to finish up on the GUI's, and other things like keys and tickets.

I have good news for you, I actually got this feature working in the 1.7+ rewrite a good while ago. The linking system in the rewrite is built like connected springs rather than a distance system like in the port.
Can you guys add class 66 locomotive in traincraft...that will be great!
I think ive said it before but im not sure If your going to make a train request put it on the Github section for train requests, WITH proper documentation and pictures of the train. Seriously it saves me the headache of finding all the info, and having detailed pictures to go off of to actually model the train is extremely needed.

Pretty sure they have enough requests as it is Just saw how many, and there are heaps, So your gonna have to wait a while before that ever add it, they are backed up with reqests.
Pretty sure they have enough requests as it is Just saw how many, and there are heaps, So your gonna have to wait a while before that ever happens im afraid, Tho I don't think they would add such a boring engine, I just searched it up and its pretty much a moving box... Im sorry but that is a pretty boring looking train. (My opinion at least)
That you find it boring doesn't mean "they" or whoever wants to model it thinks it boring... You act like you know every single thing, if this was my mod I would have told you to shut up ages ago... Because that "moving box" has more to it than some of the current trains in TC, and in my opinion looks a lot better than the American diesels, now, there we have it? A clash of opinions. Also the class 66 is one of the strongest british Engines there is, so it might be worth it to put in the mod, but idk and idc because I don't model them.

Well I wasn't aiming to offend anyone, But hey this is 2017, Evey one gets triggered over the smallest thing< i was just stating my opinion jeez, But I guess I arent used to backwards world World where I Cant say anything cause it will offend someone..
I love that it "looks better than the American diesels..." despite the fact they were built by EMD in the States...
Anyway, I honestly would love to see some more British traction in the mod and a Class 66 would definitely make up for the lack of the latter. Notion seconded!
Really... Did you not get what I mean or did you just feel the need to tell that? I obviously ment the diesels like the SD40/SD70/GP38 etc etc that are in use in the US... Where it is build is not relevant, where they run however is...
@lachie1770
No one minds your opinion, neither got anyone offended. It was more like you sounded like you spoke for them, as in "my opinion is the other opinion" kind of way.
But let's not turn it into the topic it's going now, I won't reply any further.

honestly I would have agreed with you. there are a number of trains I have gotten requests for that are just blandly textured boxes.
not to mention most of the artists that I have worked with, that were actually good, enjoy the details. just putting out a box with wheels isn't satisfying. doesn't feel like an accomplishment or a real contribution.
its like me and code. a new feature that only works with a few lines of code, first try for the passenger scaling I got it working with all of 15 lines of code. don't get me wrong I'm glad it works perfectly with so little code, but it doesn't feel like an accomplishment.
at any rate, don't mind xeno, he just likes to stir up controversy over nothing.
Pretty sure they have enough requests as it is Just saw how many, and there are heaps, So your gonna have to wait a while before that ever add it, they are backed up with reqests.
now now just because there are loads of requests doesn't mean it can't be taken into consideration, On that I also agree with the community and feel that the UK deserves more train. However there are also no trains for some other countries. We have no veitnamese trains and a great request was given for it, as such I said I would do the train. I will get to it eventually ive just been busy with other things. (Fallout 4/Rail chronicles server).

Really you made my day! very nice to hear from you.
Hope to see control car units in a future, that is really amazing, thank you so much
anyone has a map for it...please give a download link for it.. :{
theres no map download for the server its pretty new we started over after we switched hosts. Ip in the pack if you care to join. Im not sure what you mean by control cars? Also thats interesting I don't generally divide up trains by class.

This sort of functionality is planned for the train caboose functionality (which would be what's also used for control cars since they are just a modern caboose).
The plan at the moment is to be that while in the train or any connected cars, you can cycle through the GUI's and interact with whatever you actually have permission to interact with. So for example if you are in a control car or a train, even double/triple/more headings, you can control the train from the heading GUI or by cycling to the GUI of a train.
You could even have a train driver at one end and a control car driver at the other end and both control the train at the same time, for example this would be great if the driver needs to stop a several chunk long train at a very precise point.
The physics and controls for this stuff is already implemented, but the GUI and permission stuff is not in yet (mostly because I only have 1 GUI thus far and that makes testing difficult).

How about adding new tracks with concrete railbeds.like zora no densha...that will be great
I'd probably wait and let them get their current and remaining work done first. As they've said, if you want requests put them on the github.
Figured it was time for a change.
