Where would be a good place to find low res resource packs? the amount of mods that I have in my mod files is 26. just letting you know so that you can help me know which one could effect this mod at all. I have, Abyssal Craft, this mod, Better FPS mod, BiomesOPlenty, Bookshelf API, catwalks, Chance Cubes, decoration mega pack, Doom like Dungeons, Dynamic Surroundings, flowergirls, inventory Tweaks, Lots of Food, malisisdoors, malisis switches, Medicine Craft, Mr Crayfish Furniture Mod, OptiFine, Packing Tape, Roguelike Dungeons, Sound Filters, Stellar Sky, Universal Coins, Vein Miner, and Xaeros Minimap.

What do you mean by where would be a good place to find low res resource packs? They are either supplied by mod authors or you can always make your own (which is somewhat difficult, but can be done just google it). Personally, I have no idea which mods are more performance intensive or less performance intensive (that heavily depends on the developer's coding experience) but I will mention this. Lag is most often caused by mods that:
1) Have a lot of particle FX or fancy animations
2) Have a lot of entities/creatures
3) Have massive custom world generation or terrain generation.
4) Add new dimensions
5) Provide/World Generate a lot of blocks that are not cubic or solid, such as a chest or torch or itemframe, etc.
6) Blocks that are transparent and can be seen through.
7) Contain HD textures greater than 16x16
Afraid of the Dark mostly lags due to the world generation and HD textures. If you use a low res texture pack, it should solve that mostly.
Hey Vantazzy, signing the journal barely takes any ram. It just sets a boolean value on your character to true. Not sure why it's crashing but I'll definitely look into it! Can you trace the problem to any events on the server (such as two people signing at the same time, etc, any patterns help) or does it seem mostly random? Also, could you possibly attach a link to one of your crash reports? That would help a bunch!
Thanks,
David_M1A2
I have enjoyed what I've seen of the 1.8.9 version so far. I am a fan of Thaumcraft and this has been an interesting mod to play that is similar yet has a completely different feel. However... I have had the same issue that Vantazzy reported. I have played the mod in 4 separate worlds, two of which I created. In one of the worlds I created and one I didn't, at the very moment I signed the book, Minecraft crashed. Unfortunately I did not save either report but I will in the future if this happens again. In the meantime, I was hoping that if I gave a few more details, you might be able to narrow down the cause or possibly even have an idea how to work around this situation.
The crashes (which were identical) occurred immediately as I clicked the button to sign the book. One time I did this at the same time as another player and another time I was the only player signing at the time. After logging back into the game the book says that it's bound to my character but when I open it there is only ONE entry, which is the one for the book itself and it's marked as Unknown Research. If I click on the entry, it again crashes the game. Is it possible that the flag for binding the book is being set but the game crashed before the research entries were saved?
I would really like to at least salvage the world I created. Can you think of any way to reset this? I've tried backing up the world and deleting my player data but that apparently doesn't do the trick in my own world. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Very peculiar. I have not seen a problem like this in a long while. Do you know anything else about how to recreate it? Also, to try and salvage your world grab yourself a new journal without an owner and try and sign that. It will hopefully fix the problem you're having by allowing you to sign the journal again. Also, deleting your player data should fix things, and I'm not sure why you're still crashing. I'll take a look into it.

I'm afraid that it appears somewhat random so far... exact same mods loaded, worlds created/not created by me, book signed in different settings, etc.
I attempted to open an unbound book to sign it but, when I open it, it automatically becomes bound with no research completed. I also attempted to delete my player data but apparently that's not stored in just the player .dat file for worlds that you create. After I deleted it and restarted the world, I was in the same location, with the same levels and the books are still bound.
I sincerely appreciate you checking. As a side note, I wanted to mention that I accidentally encountered the last boss while caving and I was still at the iron equipment stage... that did not end well, lol.

Do you happen to have a crash report? That would be the most helpful thing by far. Also, in 1.8.9/1.9 a new player data storage system was created by forge and I recently updated to it. That means everyone's research will be reset, however it should improve stability with player data storage. I can release an untested alpha if you'd like.
Also, did you find the room with the boss and then die, or did the boss spawn because you got close to the edge of the room and teleport to you in the cave? Anyway, that sounds really rough. I've actually thought of nerfing Enaria since she's a bit too hard I think.

I don't but I'll try to recreate one this weekend. If it resets player data, I would be more than happy to test it and give you feedback.
I actually found the location by accident and went up the stairs hoping to find an unguarded chest to loot. When I saw her coming at me, I didn't have any doubts that I wasn't ready so I summoned my inner warrior... and ran like there was no tomorrow. I managed to escape with 1 heart remaining but then had the bright idea to go back and try to tunnel to her and take her out from a position of safety. That's where the situation really started to deteriorate. It wasn't until I started reading this message board to see if there was a fix for the research that I realized which boss I was dealing with.
I wanted to update you all on the latest release. It implements a new way of storing player data which means upgrading to it will result in the wiping of your AOTD progress. I mostly released this due to issues posted recently. It contains no new features, so if you're fine using the old 1.8.9 version I'd recommend staying with it.
Edit 1:
I realized that various researches had been tweaked in preparation for the magic update. To polish this, a hotfix has been released. This should make the researches reflect their actual behavior.
1. First and foremost resetting the research upgrading from 1.1.2 allowed me to successfully sign a blank book in worlds where I was previously stuck. Awesome!
2. Most of the graphics in the book for research items are not displaying for me.... I'm just seeing the ones that are displayed initially after signing along with the lines that connect them. This is not happening for all players so I'll try to find a pattern.
3. The successful research message for another player once displayed on my screen even though I was in a different location and had not yet completed the research.
4. The star background image for the telescope was missing for me. The image for the meteor was displaying, however. This may be related to #2 and may be happening for only me. I will research further as time allows.
I believe that's all I've noticed out of the ordinary so far but I'm extremely happy that I was able to play the mod in worlds where it had previously crashed. Thank you very much for that!
I also wanted to mention that I played through the nightmare realm over the weekend and I thought it was excellent. The builds and lighting gave it the perfect feel. In fact it almost made it seem like a different game altogether. I had some thoughts about a different way to end the nightmare but honestly it was very cool.

Awesome, I'm glad the mod is at least somewhat working for you! I have yet to test this version on a server, so that's what I need to do next I think (That would probably resolve the research overlay bug at least). Personally everything except for the star metal staff works in single player for me at least. Does restarting your client fix any of the texture bugs? Also, what operating system are you using? I've been developing on windows 7 and have not had the luxury of testing it on anything else. It could be a problem with Mac/Win10/etc. I'm bypassing the regular MC GUI system since it's pretty poor, and created my own java "Swing-like" GUI system. While creating my own GUI system is useful, it's also less stable than the default MC system so it could very well be a bug there as well.
Anyway, I've thought about making the nightmare even more immersive by creating a ghost version of Enaria that floats around the island whispering things to you and attacking you. I'd agree with you that the nightmare is indeed quite fun to explore immersive =).
Hey everyone, I thought I'd mention that the spell system is now functional but there is no research system for it yet. Before I create the research/tech tree for spell components I thought I'd make and implement a list of spell effects. If anyone has any effects that they would like to see added in the mod, I'd be willing to implement them if they're reasonable. Currently, the spell system contains the effects: Explosion, Grow, Heal, and Burn. Obviously many more effects are to come, but the ones listed are already implemented and functional.
Sorry for taking so long to reply. The pictures in the book are not updating at the time research is completed on Vista, Win10 & Win7. I should be able to test on a mac by the end of the week. The links in the book are being updated and the pictures load once the world is reloaded. Definitely not a major issue but could cause confusion for some people.
I'm looking forward to the spells. Teleportation might be interesting. Possibly have a marker you can place and teleport back to or some such. I'm really fond of the equal swap wand focus in tc if something like that could be possible. Lightning strikes against multiple targets. Something to indicate the nearest location of a specific item or biome...? Not sure about that one but I haven't seen anything like that in another mod.
So is nothing related to the lantern (other than the spring) functional at this time? I was kind of looking forward to using the disenchanter but had no luck adding vitae to the lantern.

The bug with the images in the journal is very strange. I have not managed to reproduce it myself. Is there anything in the console log? If not I'll try and setup a server myself and connect to it with my laptop and see if I get the same bug. Is it still just you or are all the others also experiencing the bug?
I've already implemented Burn, Dig (As suggested by GlitchReaper), EnderPocket (As suggested by GlitchReaper), Freeze (As suggested by GlitchReaper), Explosion, Heal and Grow. Teleport was next on my list =). Lightning is also on the list. I like the idea of scanning for a certain biome, utility spells like that could be very useful.
Is your vitae lantern filling up when you approach a spring? (The tree with the pond underneath) That's currently how it works, just stand next to a spring and it should fill up. If you make multiple lanterns, it will fill all of them as well. Then try the vitae disenchanter. Hopefully that works!
Thanks for implementing some of my suggestions! Looking back on my current run on it I can see some good reasons to add a "biome seeker" ability. I've only recently found a "Brewing House" that has the Wrist Crossbow research. Normally that should be early on, but it took me several Eerie Forest biomes to find it. Having the equivalent of a Biome Compass would have been really handy. I actually wound up finding it while I was looking for an Ocean Monument instead and it was practically along the same z-line.

If regular is Vanilla then what flavor is your Minecraft?
Those were 3 different players although each had the AOTD entity animations turned off. That may be because of me being the least common denominator with my older laptop running Vista. My old gaming MSI laptop has been great but it might be about time to put it out to pasture. I haven't seen anything in the logs that seems related to the images not updating but I'll keep checking.
I'm so stupid. I had 3% filled in 2 worlds but I basically got the research and left. I was off trying to whack the Deee Syfts and getting nowhere. I should have thought to try and spend more time around the springs.
I wonder if this mod might need some kind of experience sink at some point? With unbreakable weapons and armor and the ability to strip enchantments off of the tons of drops you can get from dungeon spawners, I can see levels becoming somewhat irrelevant after a while. Does that make sense?

I agree on the XP. Maybe I'll have to make a power source for spells that runs off of XP? =)
Also, I'm going to create a local server and try to play on it with my alt account. Maybe I'll get the bug to happen.

I thought something similar about tying spells to xp somehow. Also, and I realize it's already complete, but what about consuming both vitae and xp when using the disenchanter? I had thought about tying it to the crafting of the igneous and star metal materials but that would only be temporary. It would be best to have something require xp ongoing.
How do I unlock the research for the Vitae Lantern and Flask of Souls? If I had to guess I'd say I needed to stand in a Spring for Vitae Lantern and get a few more bottles of Werewolf Blood for the Flask of Souls. Doing this in my Survival world has been very interesting. I know what they can do, but the path to get to them isn't as clear as most of the other research has been. I'm hoping to get these before I challenge Enaria.

To unlock the flash of souls research you will need to craft a flash of souls (recipe should be in the journal).
To unlock the Vitae Lantern you will need to craft an empty vitae lantern and bring it to the spring as you mentioned. Are any of these not working properly?
EDIT:
I just thought I'd mention, the fight with Enaria is pretty difficult, in fact it might be too difficult. If anyone thinks it's too difficult I will tone down the difficulty. I just wanted to make sure the boss fight was an actual boss fight and took some skill unlike the enderdragon which you can do without armor and just 5 beds or the wither fight in which a full set of diamond armor will make things easy.

Mine = Mine blocks up to Obsidian at least. As many Diamonds as has been used/found up to this point that should be fair.
Exchange = Swap struck blocks with one you have selected (or just next to the spell control item in your hotbar).
Summon = An improved version of the Flask of Souls (which may act as a selector), except that any summoned creature is automatically on your team.
Freeze = Encases the area (and any mobs there) in blocks of Ice. May melt later.
Snare = Like above, but with Cobwebs.
Teleport Self = You teleport towards the point you're looking at.
Banish = Teleport struck target far away.
Ender Pocket = Just another way of using your Ender Chest system.
Plane Shift = Go to another dimension (may need some kind of selector focus).
Dimension Pull = As above, except your target is the one going in.
Potion Blast = Use selected potion as projectile delivered burst. This uses spell power so the potion is more of catalyst for the effect.
Relocate = "Store" one mob struck with it the first casting, then "place" it with the next. Like with the Flask of Souls some just won't budge.
That's my ideas for now.
