There is another strange anomaly that I forgot to mention. All of the torches in the game have some kind of strange mirror image thing going on where it shows more than 1 torch in a single location which changes based on what direction you are looking at the torches from. Any ideas on that one?
Well here is one problem that I see. Your executable is running 1.8.0_91. I attempted to update to that but mine is still running 1.8.0_25. I can't tell if it's the 32 bit or 64 bit. I know there was a thing back in like 1.6 minecraft where you had to have 64 bit java or you couldn't see further than 10 distance. Since I do not use a 64 bit browser the java installer doesn't like to auto install 64bit so I have to get it manually. It didn't seem to take the update when I did it though. Not really sure what's up with that.
My Xmx was only at 1, though minecraft F3 never reports it using more than about 500 mb. My Xmn was only at 128. What is the Xmn value related to?
I do run a full solid state drive system so I have no mechanical fixed drives.
Looks like I got the Java version thing worked out. For some reason it was using an older java version that was somehow installed into a minecraft folder in the program files directory. No idea why it was doing that. I pointed it to the one in the java directory and it's using the correct one now. Also if you are interested there is an 1.8.0_92 version now and it seems to be stable enough so far.

I apologise for taking so long to reply. I was asleep.
In regards to the executable things you encountered, that was because you are running the newest installer/client. I have found that client to be laggy; far more so than the old one. It creates a folder called ''Game'' or something, on your desktop. The normal one has all the folders located within AppData, in the ''.minecraft'' folder. You may wish to use that one instead.
As you see here, on Minecraft.net:
The latest one uses its own Java installation; a standalone one, which I find to be rather lacking in performance. Use the one my mouse cursor is hovering over.
For the Xmn argument: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/23880891/what-does-xmn-jvm-option-stands-for In short, it helps with the GC (Garbage collector). Too much can hurt performance, whilst too little (128M) can also impact performance. I find that 256M is just right. The same can be said about Xmx. Even if you never use more than a certain amount, it never hurts to have an optimal amount; just in case you do go over. Too much can impact performance, just like the Xmn argument.
And I'm glad you got the Java thing resolved; it was because as I mentioned above, it was using an actual ''installation'' of MineCraft, rather than just a solitary .exe on your Desktop. I will update my Java, thank you.
As for torches... I can't say I've noticed that. Are you using a specific texture pack, or just default Minecraft? I use a pack called ''Misa'', and I never see her torches behave like that. I also frequently use Default and Faithful (a higher resolution default). Neither of them have shown the torches as you described.
Would you mind taking a screenshot of the torch thing? Upload it to http://imgur.com/ and link it here.

To quiet all future debates, would you please install Speccy and screenshot the summary? It will show something like this:

Okay everything today is a big day.
We are releasing three things today and plans for another thing.
Firstly 1.2 is released it can be downloaded on our website. This version includes many things like
improved POM and support for all resolutions (Definable)
Volumetric Light
New Global Illumination
Improved PCSS
PBR And PBR packs
Dynamic Weather per day
HRSSS (New way of making shadows touch blocks and perfect shading [Disabled by default])
And many other things scattered about
Second we have 2 texturepacks on the bottom of the website, one being an extension to chroma hills and the other being an alpha version of pulchra PurePBR. and the last thing we are announcing a shader test server and factions server, this will be a good way for everyone to compare edits show bugs and many more things in the future so keep updated on that. http://continuumshader.com

Hmm.
The 1.2 release seems to have severely impacted my performance. Is it safe to say that it is still a preview/beta? If so, I'll go ahead and return to the version I was using previously; ''Continuum Preview - 1.8.9 - Preview2''. If not, then I'd appreciate some help figuring out what I'm doing incorrectly. As it stands, my usual 50-60fps has bricked down below 30fps. With the ''Pulchra PurePBR'' texture pack, it plummets even further to 19-20fps.
I've changed no settings, other than simply enabling the shaders and the texture pack. Everything was exactly as it was, whilst using the 1.8.9 version. (14 Render distance, etc. I'll screenie all that Info.) Here's a screenshot of Minecraft being the active window, with MSI Afterburner and my Task manager on the right monitor:
As you can see, my CPU is only at 17% usage, and I'm only using 9GB of RAM. What you see on my taskbar, is less than what I normally have open whilst playing MineCraft. I tend to multi-task a lot, and things usually end up being forgotten about. According to MSI Afterburner, my GPU is at 96% Usage -- but that was also the case, with the other Continuum shader; as well as just about any other game I play that has semi-decent graphics. So that shouldn't be considered a factor.
Here's my graphics settings, in OptiFine and my client settings:
I play on a 1080p Monitor; ''Maximised'' Windowed mode, with the task bar at the bottom. The game resolution ends up being... 1920x1018. I left the ''advanced'' shader options, well enough alone. The only setting I changed within ''Shader options'', was the profile selector. I changed that to Ultra, then to Low when that caused such extreme Fps drops. Even in Low, my fps was around 30.
Something seems a bit off here, as my fps shouldn't be this low. In case you need a refresher, my Hardware is as follows:
(Speccy seems to hate DDR4 RAM, lol. It's @2133MHz.)
Now that all of that is out of the way... I've also some proof, for the aforementioned superior performance. I recorded a good number of videos with Continuum and my favourite texture pack. I'll link two of them:
The first one, was before Stazza85 offered me their Motion Blur fix. So it has the white pixelation. The second one is obviously within a Flat world, but it's not your typical ''dig four blocks down and you hit the void'' type; as you can see via the coordinates and my small dungeon/basement. So I feel that it offers comparable hardware stress to a normal world.
Not certain if I need to state much else... if you need me to clarify anything, list anything else, etc., then simply ask me. Looking forwards to a reply. =)

Can you check with Afterburner what your VRAM usage is at when running 1.2 and the PBR pack???
I'm wondering if your VRAM is maxed out, or maybe it's starting to use the half gigabyte of super slow VRAM on the card, as I know when I personally run 1.8.9 plus a 512x pack my VRAM can push 5GB utilisation at 14-16 render distance.
[Edit] - P.S. on a completely separate note. It's really refreshing to see someone post on a forum asking for help or advice that provides loads of information, screenshots, explanations, specs and stats...etc., it's so much nicer and easier. And massively better than the normal: "HELP!!!!1 It no work fix it!1!!", that people post
Thank you and Kudos to you Quavelen, that's how a forum post should be

Okay, at my listed settings the VRAM sits around 1960MB.
I maxed out my render distance to 32, and the VRAM stopped climbing at 3142MB.
And thank you, lol. I try to be thorough, as I know how irksome it can be when someone expects you to help them, after they've given you little to no information.
Edit:
So no, my card wasn't using that slower 512MB. Any other ideas? =/

Sorry to say but there some problems with 1.2 but you can check out the continuum Facebook page to download the continuum 1.2 non-pbr Classic version that is still based on the old preview2

Thank you for making me aware of that Facebook page; normally I boycott any and all social media sites and stubbornly stick to the MineCraft forums. I went ahead and downloaded the ''Classic'' 1.2, but my fps remains exactly the same; I'm seeing 19-25fps in the settings that you quoted. Hopefully like what was said on the Facebook page, this severe performance issue will be rectified.
So, I guess I'm headed back to the 1.8.9 Preview2 version. I'm glad that it's not me, doing something incorrectly. I was worried for a bit.

There was also a link to download some compatible chromahills texture packs that might help on fps. Also with dynamic weather it uses cloud shadows that takes a bit of a fps hit so maybe try going into the dynamic weather tab and turn off cloud shadows and see if that helps. The new Specular that I added also takes off a few fps, if your not fussed on specular then in the POMnSpec tab there is an option for specular every texture pack, you can turn this off to save some fps. I also recommend only going as high as the "high" preset for general playing as ultra is more for taking pic and making videos, other than this it's kinda strange if your still getting such a big fps drop cause the "Classic" version is an extension from preview2. Let me know how you go with what I have suggested
Ok everyone Here is the NON-PBR version that is based off "Continuum Preview - 1.8.9 - Preview2" so there shouldnt be any problems using it (Hopefully)
Continuum 1.2 Non-PBR (Low-Ultra) Classic
Why Classic? well the shader is going through a few changes and a re-code by the other members and fingers crossed its for the best as they are hoping to improve the performance of the shader over all and streamline the code in the shader for a cleaner work space. The Classic version will be mostly only be worked on by me (Brad) in any spear time i get and most likly wont get many updates in the future as the focus is on the new PBR branch.
New Features:
* Improved POM support (still has trouble with some texture Packs in 1.9 but 1.8 seems fine)
* Volumetric Light
* New Global Illumination with more options to lower or raise Quality
* Dynamic Weather *NOTE* this uses Cloud Shadows that takes off fps and will lower light brightness when overcast
* HBAO - by Joey
* Better/More Shader Options
* Added Light Jitter to torches (it's subtle) makes the light flicker
* Fixed Shifting rain
* Added More Lens flares with a tab in the shader options (Brads Favourite on by default)
* Improvements to Specular so it now works with all texture packs including Minecraft default, best result is with a TP that has Specular support
* Waving Shadows on leaves and grass now turn off
* Off-Hand Held torch light works and emits light
* Mobs Flash red when hit
* Fixed Lighting underwater
* "fake" coloured stained glass shadows (Actually GI being strange but works I guess)
* and maybe a few things here and there I forgot about
Now along with this I will give access to a folder where I store compatable ChromaHills Texturepacks that have full working POM in 1.9, there are 2 versions a 64x and a 128x (128 needs the extra leaves fix) They are older TP versions but still good. If anyone or the creator has a problem with this I will happly take it down.
There was also a link to download some compatible chromahills texture packs that might help on fps. No, none of that did much. =/ My fps is still 19-25, with those listed settings turned off. Upon switching back to the 1.8.9 Preview2 pack, my fps jumps back up to the aforementioned 50-60. So, I'm inclined to believe there is definitely something goofy with this release. I'm not too fussed, honestly. I am quite happy with the 1.8.9 preview2, as it makes MineCraft look beautiful and it performs wonderfully. =)
As for the texture packs, I'm not a fan of Chromahills; nor any of the hundreds of texture packs I've tried over the years. Misa and Faithful are the only two that I ever really liked. With the Preview2 shaders and my Misa pack, my fps is at 50-60. So again, I'm not too worried. Thank you for your help.

sorry I also forgot to mention there is a new Global Illumination that we are now using, you can revert back to the SEUS GI by going into the Global Illumination shaders option and turn on SEUS_GI, Also we now has HBAO that also takes a few fps, you can turn that off by going into details. I have run some test my self now and indeed there is a 15 fps drop from preview 2 High to the new classic High but after turning off cloud shadows, the specular_every_texturepack, turning on SEUS_GI and turn off HBAO you should see your fps back. I hope this helps
Testing the two versions of the pack you've been discussing on an AMD R9 390, there doesn't appear to be much of a difference in FPS with this particular card. Just a datapoint in case that information is useful to anyone out there.
@Stazza85: Any chance it'd be possible to fix nighttime void worlds allowing sunlight to pass through the void? Using SEUS 10.2 Preview 1, a void world at night is dark as expected, no sunlight. I much prefer the Continuum pack, but sunlight comes through the void and hits clouds and structures and looks very awkward. I had sent this request off in an email a short while ago, but that was before there were these two branches of the pack. I'm not sure which dev got that request or which of the two branches their focus is on. I wanted to ask you directly since the non-PBR branch is the pack I'm interested in using. I have no need for the PBR branch as I prefer Minecraft's default textures with a really nice shader pack.
Thanks for posting the Classic version, much appreciated

can you post some pics of the night time problem your having, like a SEUS and Continuum so I can get a better understanding as to what your after
Cheers
edit: Looks like I forgot to F3 on the last two interior shots. Sorry about that. The one where you can see some sunlight glitching through the cracks is Continuum, the other is SEUS. I know there's nothing you can do about the light bleed, all shaders seem to do it. I was just providing it to demonstrate how the nighttime atmosphere is spoiled, even indoors.

Does this work on 1.9?
The POM doesn't seem to be working properly to me and the sand texture appears to be bugged, with like black squares around it.

* Volumetric Light
* New Global Illumination with more options to lower or raise Quality
* Dynamic Weather *NOTE* this uses Cloud Shadows that takes off fps and will lower light brightness when overcast
* HBAO - by Joey
* Better/More Shader Options
* Added Light Jitter to torches (it's subtle) makes the light flicker
* Fixed Shifting rain
* Fixed Lighting underwater

No, none of that did much. =/
My fps is still 19-25, with those listed settings turned off.

Thanks for posting the Classic version, much appreciated
can you post some pics of the night time problem your having, like a SEUS and Continuum so I can get a better understanding as to what your after
Cheers
Here you go. Three different locations, one shot with Continuum and one with SEUS.
Screens
Thanks!
edit: Looks like I forgot to F3 on the last two interior shots.
