I haven't been able to get it working properly in my Forge 1.8 server. It worked for a bit at first but then kept giving an error saying it couldn't save the file correctly when /spawn was used.
The only error i know of that would say that it can't save a file when using /spawn is the one for saving the /back location. In theory it would only say that if the whole minecraft program could not have write access to the correct folder. More detail would be needed to figure that one out.
Also the note about having it on the client side is curious. I believe him, but had not noticed that before.
1. What exact version of Spawn Commands are you using on your server? I hope its version 2.2.0 or up. The player not online thing was due to it requiring the exact capitalization of the user name and is now changed to be case insensative thankfully.
2. Yes I know. I believe the way /ta is setup now is very efficient and it makes sense to me. I really hope it makes sense to others. So far it seems an improvement over /tpa or so I hope. Please do give suggestions for the help page for it or for any aspect of it if you wish.
On this last note: when I have been using /ta recently the scenario generally goes like this:
1. I type /ta friennamehere in lower case or even just type /ta, a space, then i hit tab a few times to find the player name. I then hit enter ofcourse.
2. my friend will type /ta ok. I get notified in chat that they have accepted.
3. then I just hit either t or slash to open chat then I usually hit up arrow once to bring up my last command which is usually my /ta friendname request and hit enter.
4. bam im there.
This is how I have used it efficiently recently. (today actually)
im trying to keep it simple and very very usable. Thoughts about its design are welcome.
Is it just the change of how to do it or is there something about the way /ta is designed that is making it uncomfortable to use?
Yes, it is the latest version. Tried it again, using all methods you suggested. Still says the user is not online when using the initial
/ta <username>
I think there was also confusion about the requester needing to re-enter the request. It would make more sense if they were tele'd the moment the requestee accepted. As far as the /ta changes, yeah, most people don't understand at first. /spawn /sethome /home and /back appear to be working fine. Hopefully that isn't just because I'm an OP though. Always wonder that when testing commands, or well I can say for certain /spawn is, every user who tested it said so.

Ok.
The initial configuration when you install only has 2 things that op's can do special. The only 2 things ops can do different than regular players at the initial setup is 1: to enable/disable the advanced commands and 2: create or remove shared named locations. So your test results should not be affected by being an op.
As for being teleported the moment the request is accepted: I can easily add a config option for that but chose not to because I, as a player, would not like to wait almost 45 seconds then be yanked from what ever I am doing to where I want to go. I may be sitting there processing ore in my smeltery while I wait for the destination player to respond accepting my request. That was my reasoning. I am certainly willing to consider options.
The in English story version of a /ta request in my head between player's Albert and Henry goes something like this:
"Henry, Hey can I teleport to you?" Albert says then waits a few seconds for Henry to respond.
"Ya ok, Albert, come on over here. I'm in a safe place for you to stand. I was busy, but now I don't mind." Says Albert.
"Ok cool Henry, Im here now. Hi." Albert replies as he goes to see Henry.
The equivelant in-game chat version could be like this:
/ta henry
/ta ok
/ta
The last /ta here is the second request to teleport and, in this case, no name is specified since the game remembers who he asked with the first /ta command before that. I am trying to keep it simple. Also when your request is accepted you get an in-chat notice of acceptance and an in-chat suggestion to try /ta at that time.
Question: When you say it gives an error saying the user is not online with the initial /ta request: which are you asking? Are you saying the first /ta request of the game starting or the first /ta request of every time you try to use the /ta to go to someone?
In the past this error message has been cause by people misspelling the other's name, or by getting the capitalization different from their game name (fixed in 2.2.0), or by the player actually not being in the game at that moment. The feature of typing /ta, a space, then hitting tab a few times usually cures each of these. The latest version actually corrects your capitalization for you after you enter their name. I very much want to find the source of this error.
Also: have you checked to see if it works with using the correct exact upper case and lower case letters in their user name? When people say to me "yes I am using the latest version" it leaves me wondering which version they believe is the latest. But when they say "yes I am using version 2.2.0 of SpawnCommand" I tend to believe that they checked their mods folder and they are using that version. If it is case sensative then either there is a bug in the program or you aren't using the latest version. If that is a bug I will fix it asap.
An additional somewhat unrelated note: While playing Minecraft I have noticed a need for one player to ask another player to teleport to them. The ta command so far asks another player if youcan teleport to them. The difference being the destination player asking others to come to them to see something to join in doing something. This does appear to be a need. I have not yet considered how to do this.
By-the-way I appreciate your helping figure this out.

Alright, let's see here..
>would not like to wait almost 45 seconds then be yanked from what ever I am doing to where I want to go.
I was talking about instantaneous, typically in a conversation the reaction to teleport requests would be fast. Not a 45 second wait, but at the same time even if you did wait that long I would think that you'd be prepared to teleport if you were asking someone to tele to them.
>Question: ...initial...
I'll rephrase. Using the /ta <player> command does not work whatsoever. Whenever you use it, it just says the player you're sending the request to is not online even though they are.
>upper case and lower case letters
Yep.
>it leaves me wondering which version
I am currently using SpawnCommands version 2.2.0 for Forge 1.8.
Sounds like the player needs a command to request that a player teleport to them. Could be useful.
I appreciate your replies. There is a severe lack in Forge 1.8 modders. My server went ecstatic when they heard a /spawn mod was being added to the server so they wouldn't have to kill themselves or ask me to kill them to tele back to spawn and that they could set houses. I can honestly say that your commands are being used the most in the entire server. Actually took me awhile to find your mod. Thank you for this mod.
I will begin testing and looking at the code on this end. I will probably reply in detail later as well. It's currently 107 degrees farenheit outside. I'll happily be back on these issues soon.
I put this mod under copy right license "Creative Commons with Attribution" which means you may do anything you wish with it as long as credit is given where it is appropriate. This license allows you to do most things without asking me. So yes you may create another Forum for this mod anywhere you wish.
You may even modify this mod all you like. This could include changing it to use Chinese language. And you can redisribute that version as well. I personally do not know how to change the language. I am only interested in making Minecraft more fun and usable for everyone.
Every so often there are program bug issues that I try to fix and usually do fix. So my code for the mod is changed regularly. If you copy the code and modify it, you may need to do it again repeatedly when I repeatedly update it.
Okay, so I'm on 1.8 and playing a Lan world. I am the host and this mod won't let me use op commands (such as /spawn+ enable )on this world. It lets me use them on another world that's 1.7 though. How can I op myself on 1.8 to fix this? I've tried opening the lan with cheats, I've also tried the commands to op myself and nothing is working.. Yes I'm using the latest form of this mod. Help, please?
I am pleased that you are using the latest version. Please check to be sure it is version 2.2.0 or up and for your minecraft version. I know it sounds silly to ask after you already said you are using the latest but there are other web sites that host this mod and they do not always have the latest. Also it just helps to know for sure which version.
Mincecraft runs as either singleplayer or multiplayer-server.
If you are in single player then in the misc config file for that saved world you can change the setting AllowWithCheatsDisabled to true. That setting only affects single player games and will make SpawnCommands believe that you are an op (operator). You mentioned already doing that but do check the file again to be sure.
If you are in a multi-player server then make sure that from the server console you type the command /op yournamehere to make sure you really are an op. Then if the problem persists try stopping the server, deleting misc config fle and delete the command permissions config file as well, then restarting the server to have it set the defaults again. If that doesn't work I am very suprised and talk to me again.
Another common mistake is changing the SpawnCommands config folder of a different world than the one you are playing in. If you change a setting in the saved world of a different map it most definately will not help your current game. lol So be sure what folder your world is saved in. Single player games are in sub-folders under /saves/ and the multiplayer servers default to a folder called /world/ but this can be changed in the server.properties file "level-name=".
I have just tested SpawnCommands Teleport version 2.2.0 for Minecraft 1.8 and Forge. The /ta works perfectly as far as I can tell. We tested with 3 people. I tested capitalization of player names and it is self-correcting. we tested to different people. I tested the tab key to select names. It seems to work very well.
At this point I am unable to reproduce the problem of /ta not workin and of it saying that the player is not in game when they are in game. This is not happening for us in testing.
If you wish, download this mod again from post entry #1 in this forum thread. Get the latest which at this point is version 2.2.0 for minecraft 1.8 Also this thread is the only OFFICIAL place to download this mod. There are other places that host its download and I am fine with that.
If your SpawnCommands Teleport settings are messed up just remove the config files for it and it will start over fresh with default settings when you restart your server.
If you make changes to your config files and they are not affecting your game then you may be editing the configs for a different world. There is a new set of config files for each and every map you play. They are stored in the folder of your current saved game.
There is an unlikely possibility that another mod you have installed is interfering with SpawnCommands Teleport. I doubt this is the case. If you wish you may include a spoiler button with any log files or lists of mods etc in a reply. The "!" button at the top of editing your message here lets you add a spoiler button.
[edit: yep it is a mod inteaction problem. workin on it.]
If you have any more thoughts or information I am happy to try to help you get it working.
SpawnCommands Teleport works well as it is normally but there is an issue if you have another mod that changes the colors of player names. I am looking into making SpawnCommands Compatible with this mod interaction.
The only error i know of that would say that it can't save a file when using /spawn is the one for saving the /back location. In theory it would only say that if the whole minecraft program could not have write access to the correct folder. More detail would be needed to figure that one out.

interesting. I have tested the limits on multiplayer servers successfully for mc1.7.10 and 1.8. This is odd.
*sigh* ok now for the usual questions:
Please confirm the exact mod file name for SpawnCommands for this server.
Also which version of minecraft is this?
Would it be possible to get an exact copy of the config files? perhaps in a spoiler or zip? <--- probably the most useful info.
If worst comes to worst a list of mods installed with it? (I hope this one is not necessary)
Any info you think may be relevant is always welcome.
Thank you sincerely.
