Advanced Thaumaturgy does not yet function on 1.7.10, nothing to do with buildcraft.
To be fair, the 1.7.2 version does work on 1.7.10, but the current version of Advanced Thaumaturgy is using a very old Buildcraft API.
More accurately would be Advanced Thaumaturgy doesn't function with newer versions of basically anything.

What about if I dont have any other mod that uses buildcraft API then? Will it work or does it need update for the latest version of Thaumcraft anyway?

Definitely needs an update for the latest build of Thaumcraft. I think the last time it was working with Thaumcraft was Thaumcraft 4.1.X, but don't quote me on that.
You've awoken on this barren wasteland planet, a civilization once ruled and proud, but where is everyone? All the buildings are empty, nothing remains, all that can be seen is mass hordes in all directions of zombies, skeletons and other creatures never before seen. Inside isn't safe, Outside isn't safe, what will u do to survive this planet and escape? Can you survive the 1st day without death claiming you?
There is no natural light, when night time comes it's pitch black, no moon light and all that is heard is the scratching and moaning of whats around lurking to destroy you. Mining reveals unbeknownst horrors from the rocks just waiting to come out and devour your soul. Puddles of liquid blue or purple are not water, but also intent on harming you.
I hate when people automatically assume a mod is dead. Lycaon has been doing his best to update the mod. It doesn't help when the mod this is an addon to has been updating fairly regularly recently with major changes to how some of the basic things work; but also, Lycaon, if you check back even just a few pages, is well known to have several physical issues that make it difficult for him to code for long periods of time, along with coding for a job, which combined with said issues, can really make it difficult to do anything mod related whatsoever.
I understand being impatient and worried, but I really hate when someone declares a mod dead with no credible basis other than the author hasn't been active on the forums. God knows, if it weren't for certain mods, I wouldn't be on here myself simply because of some of the extremely self-entitled brats who wander these topics. Modding is tough, and being pessimistic about a mod doesn't help the author want to continue.
Too long, didn't read version: Lycaon is working on it. Be patient. Waffles.
Wait a minute. "I expect this is a dead mod."
Last time I checked, I expect and I declare are two VERY different things.
Now, I never said it is dead, I said I think it might be.
A (fairly) good reason for which I think this is that, to be aware of the fact that thaumcraft has "been updating fairly recently," Lycaon would have had to have been on the website, meaning that his profile would have updated to "Last seen / Last Active :After nov. whatever". However, since he has not been on the forums for such a long time, that gives me the thought that it might be a possibility that the mod may be dead.
Tl;dr: I do have some reasoning as to why I think so, but again I only think so. I never said it is, so calm the heck down.
P.S.: I've been playing this game since alpha, I know to be patient for mod updates lol. Also, since I code myself, I know modding is tough. So rather than hinting at calling me an "extremely self-entitled brat," you may want to ask for somebody's reasoning before going on some useless rant "with no credible basis."
With all that said, I don't want to start a feud, so if you find parts of this comment insulting, p.m. me and I will remove them. Just try to listen to your own advice.

All I ask is that you simply read a little more into the situation here. Lycaon is well known to those who have hung around in this thread to have disabilities that make it quite difficult for him to mod. Work makes it even harder for him to do so.
The declaration of death was not referring to you, by the way. It was simply an encompassing comment towards those who do, in fact, declare mods dead with no basis and my hatred of them. Especially as of late because there are those that would do so just because a mod hasn't updated to 1.8.
I simply use the term "self-entitled brat" with what I have seen of the community. I apologize if it offended you. I tend to be of the mindset that this community is beyond toxic and try to defend the modder above all else when I see things that imply a mod is dead.
I again apologize if I offended you, and did not mean to do so. I am not the type to start or continue flame wars, nor am I the sort who will not admit when I am wrong. I was wrong, and I do hope that you will continue to be patient with Lycaon.
At least, other than bug fixes, there will be no more updates to the existing version of Thaumcraft, which should allow Lycaon to finally be able to catch up. Unfortunately, there might not be any more updates to Buildcraft either (due to drama that I care not leave on this forum with the toxicity it entails).
Its said in a nutshell that some of the larger Mod's the Modders have said that itd take a complete re-write of the Mod to make it for 1.8 and there not willing to do it and with a Mod such as BC, that would be such a massive undertaking its not practical nor realistic

Well, since the mod hasn't seen an update in awhile, I figure that it's time that I learn Java(maybe even Scala) and attempt to update the mod. If anyone has any good sources for learning programming/java/modding, please let me know, as it would help me immensely.

Well, if you already know some basic Java, Pahimar (the author of EE3) has a nice Lets Mod Reboot series on youtube that's good for basic modding.
I don't really have any knowledge of coding, so if you knew of some sources that could help me learn Java, that would help immensely, as well
If you're interested in Java, then CodingBat has some really nice basic tutorials. As for trying to work on this mod with very beginner Java knowledge, I woulnd't suggest it. I've already tried seeing if I could fix it up, and I got lost in about 5 seconds.
That and there's evidence of a in-development 1.7.10 version over on OpenEye, so it seems like Lycoan is working on the mod, and just doesn't feel up to/feel it's ready for a public release/beta yet.

Okay, but either way, I'll try my best to learn java and *maybe* update the mod once I feel comfortable enough to attempt to update it.
Hey guys... Although technically I *did* abandon AT, I assure you it was definitely not by choice. My utility bill literally doubled this winter and I had to choose between heat or internet. Obviously, internet lost out.
I don't have any open wifi networks near my house, and have no transportation ti leech off of some random fast food wifi. I got lucky today with a doctor's appointment and aside from several hundred emails, I am also saving a copy of bug reports from github, reading the last 15 pages of this forum post, and grabbing an updated copy of Forge and Thaumcraft so that I can work on AT at home.
I am over $500 behind on my utilities so I will not be back permanently for the foreseeable future, looks like it will be abour June before I can get internet back. I know I don't deserve it, but if you can help out, my Patreon is still functional.
Luckily, I do have a followup appoint scheduled in two weeks. I'm hoping to have a bugfix update to upload by then.
Hope to post again soon, and thanks for sticking around
Also, I have plans to move away from using the infusion altar to apply upgrades. If anyone is good at textures, I could use a nice GUI texture for a block. I imagine a large wand spanning diagonally, with 1 spot to place the actual wand and 4 spots to insert crystals. Maybe add in some of the Thaumcraft runes... Maybe it can look similar to the research paper in the research table?

I know this probably isn't the time to ask for it, but is this eventual update likely to include a Mercurial Staff Core? For the sake of having staffs and wands matching, I'd also quite like to see a Wand Core of the Primal and an Ichorcloth Staff Core as well, and I know neither are likely to be implemented into their respective sections as Azanor has moved onto the next major version of Thaumcraft in 1.8, discussing possible new node mechanics already, and Thaumic Tinkerer seems downright dead as the current developers of the mod are all working on other things while Vazkii gave it up entirely to work on Botania. Having the same passive regen (and, in the staff's case, +potency) as the primal core(s) on the Mercurial core(s) would also be pretty neat, supplying they're unlocked.
With everything that seems to have happened more or less at once to you, I don't want to put too much on your plate, but I would just like to voice what I hope is a relatively simple suggestion to work on once the mod is in working state again.
Well, for the Ichorcloth staff core, you're going to want to talk to the people in charge of Thaumic tinkerer.
As for a wand core of the primal, it is my understanding that in Azanor's original lore the staff core of the primal is just to powerful for anything like it to be contained in something as simple as a wand.
Also, as a final note, thaumic tinkerer isn't dead, they've just moved where they put their new builds. They are here and very, very much alive.
News to me, I hadn't seen any TT-related news on this forum or on /r/feedthebeast where previous updates have been listed. Will check there.
And yes, I'm aware of Azanor's excuse and while I entirely respect that, it bothers me more having a fully-eldritch (and awesome looking) staff with no matching fully-eldritch wand. Even if it were just something like a bit of a boosted vis storage (150 base, 225 scepter? 200 base, 300 scepter?) and matching visuals, I'd be happy.
The primal's +potency effect and natural regen can be stripped away to make it "usable as a wand without with dire adverse effects". I've seen plenty of lore skipped over with cheap excuses like that.
I'd still say that sounds like something for Forbidden Magic, maybe suggest if to SpitefufFox.

I like astronomy, and one of my ideas is a mod based around astronomy.
