Well were all coming up with ideas on additions and changes to thaumcraft, it would be cool if thaumcraft were to have added to it in a future update some sort of a body augmentation system.
My two ideas systems for this which are really the same in function but different in flavor and lore(which is what matters and makes thaumcraft the best mod there is) are. The first is a system(based off of nanotechnology) were you create tiny magical insects/golems with the help of your friend taint, that get imbued with an aspect and injected into your body granting you abilities based on the aspect you used. The second one would have the same function as the first idea however instead you would draw/inscribe runes on your body to gain powers.
You could gain small unigue and cool benefits through these such as, an rune/nanoscarb of victus would allow you to if you die instead come back with 4 hitpoints, with of course a 30 second of so cool down. One for auram could behave like goggles of revealing allowing you to use a piece of armor.
Of course each thing you had would off course give you warp that could not be removed unless you removed the rune/nanoscarbs, that is in addition to the taboo research it would off course be(you are carving runes/injecting magical insects into your body). Also if it were to be added you probably would not be able to use more than one of each aspect, use primal aspects as they are to simple, and would have a limit to how many you could have placed on you(starts at maybe three however can be increased). Also to make things interesting if you went over your limit you would instantly die of the overflow of magic inside of you. Last after the process/ritual for applying one was complete you would be reduced to 1 hit point and be unable to heal to more than 4 hit points for a amount of time leaving you vulnerable as you body adjusted to the magic forced inside off you.
I fele like we should have to do extra work to get this level of modularity.
well of course, i wouldnt expect azanor to just hand us a fire focus that can toggle between jet, stream, and fireball right from the get-go. I would think that unlocking different functionalities for each focus would require some adjustments to the gauntlet itself, and some research no doubt so theres the time and resource cost involved. I just think that having a generic fire (or shock or whatever) focus and changing the way you pass vis through it rather than irreversibly changing the focus itself makes a little more sense. The focus is a lens, why specialize the lens to work in one single way when you could change the wavelength and intensity of the light instead and access the whole spectrum?

Sort of like how the lenses in our eyes work, they can change shape to focus on far or close objects. So you could create a focus that can change shape allowing one focus to have all of the different styles available to the specific focus type.
The problem with having a fluid, non-linear magic system is that it might not easily balance with the very linear progression structure that Minecraft itself uses...
If anybody is bothered by that factor.

Instant dying seems a bit tough of a learning curve though. Losing health/hunger rapidly or gaining negative effects is a bit more forgiving for those hardcore players just poking around.

I feed off changelogs.
Asking for updates is spam. Really.
I make some mods that are pathetically slow to update. Join in on the wait here and here.

Yeah it might be a little bit extreme, it does not have to be instant death, but the effects should be very dangerous.

So it'd be similar to how the Cyberware mod works?

I just took the Minecraft Noob test! Check out what I scored. Think you can beat me?!
While I fing injecting nanomagitech thaumic bees into your body really weird and stuff, I like the idea of runes inscribed on your body (even if that victus one is hella OP).
I'd prefer something like injecting yourself with liquified voidmetal and implanting yourself with vis shards, than taking a bath in essentia or something, to be able to be a living vis gauntlet, being able to use spells without gauntlets, you just hold a focus and use it.

Imagine a Thaumaturge just clutching a wand focus in their hand, bare, and then zap, out comes its effects in a gesture.
Also runes are cool. There's already (Temphis font?) runes in Thaumcraft, though they have no specific meanings on their own.
I did some CraftTweaker scripts for Mystical Agriculture. They fill in a couple of small gaps in MA, and also let you make or duplicate not only vanilla plants, but the blocks, plants and wood from Quark and Biomes O'Plenty. Also spawn eggs for most vanilla mobs! The scripts are here on Github.
Oh, and an observation I missed from last page: I do like the idea of being able to use the different casting modes of the foci somehow. I wouldn't want them all compressed into a singular item, because I think the foci look way too cool to reduce to one thing, but having to carry like, three or four of a given focus because of its different properties for modularity's sake is a bit bothersome.
On the other hand, I did appreciate that those upgrades were more substantial than just an increase in flat numbers, so hmm. It would probably be best as a late-game thing, being able to compress functionality together like that. Though at the same time it could open the gate to sort of, superfoci that have particularly distinct/destructive effects and convoluted requirements to create. I would certainly not complain if I could shoot out a giant 3x3 or wider mining laser from my hand at endgame, as long as it was suitably difficult to do in the first place.
EDIT: Also, yes to bodily modification of some sort. I've felt that Biothaumaturgy in general could be expanded upon-- reverse-engineering the corruptive nature of Taint into a means of sneaking past genetic resistances to change, from a semi-scientific standpoint. (We do have those morphic-resonator-core things, after all. .) That, and with Horizons in limbo, it'd be prime territory to explore and take notes from.

It wouldn't be 1 single focus for every magic effect, but rather 1 focus for each of the general types of magic-- 1 fire focus for all fire effects, one shock focus for all shock effects etc. You'd still need to carry a handful of foci to have the full arsenal, but never duplicates of the same type

Runes, definitely. Nano-anything is seriously out of context in a universe with one-meter resolution. ;-) That said, I like the idea very much.
I like the runes better as well, however I find nanotechnology to be fascinating and thought that it would blend with taint well and more ways to utilize taint would be cool, so I felt to through the idea out there to see what others thought of it.

Personal I feel that runes should/would be a late game eldritch research(you are becoming one with vis). Upgrades that are not just flat number increases are powerful, but more unique and much more fun to use and play with. Some runes maybe would be so but hopefully they would for the most part stay away from it. Some other ideas that I had for runes are a sensus rune that would make non undead entities give of a very faint glow(if within range of the ability) allowing you to see/sense them through walls. The rune for undead could make undead see you as one of them(exept for the wither) so that the would not attack you unless provoked, just like zombie pigmen(maybe a little overpowered could instead reduce the detection range for undead mobs allowing you to sneak past).
EDIT: Sorry just realized that I made a mistake because the first part of the quote was not about my idea.

Wow. But yeah, runes and maybe some sort of magic equivalent of nanobots to run vis through your body to amplify the runes' effect or to act as runic shielding (think the TF2 ubercharge theory).

Consider the Arcane Matrix the center of the altar: Any item at x, y, z relative to the altar is balanced by an item at -x, y, -z. i.e. every item is symmetrically balanced if, on a line drawn through the central axis, there is another item an equal distance from the matrix an equivalent distance on the opposite side of the altar.
No. Only planar (horizontal) symmetry is considered.
This is also why altar active zone is not symmetrical vertically.

You could perhaps use magic nanobots you augment the runes, however in my opinion we should have one or the other, not both as they do not, at least in my mind blend together seamlessly. It would be nice to have them both they as they are both cool ideas.
Perhaps a prameunio(protection/armor aspect) rune could grant you some runic shielding, or it could grant you a few armor points however they would only be there if you did not have a full armor bar, for example it would be useless if you wore a full set of diamond armor, but if you had void robes with boots of the traveler the extra points would be there. Most/all runes would use vis from the aura to power them..
Ok I thought that you were suggesting a full on AM2 spell system.

Yeah, the main difference would be the lore and fluff.
Cool! Maybe I could buff myself with cool cyberware and then use the thaumcraft stuff.
