Azanor, after one and an half versions of thaumcraft, what is your opinion on champion mobs?
Are you satisfied with the gameplay they add to thaumcraft?
Because if one were to ask me, I have mixed feelings. I find them a bit distant from the main theme of the mod. They also cause some inconsistencies. like when making a mob farm, and have the unlucky mighty mob kill your golem.
Lastly I feel that that certain champion tags don't even work (anymore?)
On the other side they can make certain mobs like spiders just a bit more challenging then the usual easy to defeat regular spider. They also make every boss fight just a bit different from the last one.
Anyone else has their thoughts on champion mobs?
I like them, but I feel guilty about it.
What I like is that they make "random encounters" much mor einteresting and give you a good chance for very special loot. But that's the problem. Their loot is pretty OP actually. It is fitting for their power, but it's still just too good, it breaks sequence.
Also the tainted ones can really ruin your day if they end up somewhere you can't reach them...usually their trails quickly dissipate, but it does cause flux and after a while their taint will stick and then you have a problem. And that alsoleads to my general problem with taint, that if the world has lasted forever in balance, how cna taint eat through it so quickly...that is assuming taint did not change much since the release of TC5, which obviously it did, but I didn't get to play it all the way through since.
I think maybe it should be considered to have them only appear at special places and have the chance for them to drop greatly sequence-breaking items removed or at least greatly reduced.
Like you could have certain kinds of them linked to certain properties in the aura, maybe make tainted onces unable to randomly appear in a healthy aura and corrupt it, and like make sure that the ones with better loot spawn in places where that loot is not so far away, like the ones that drop diamonds and gold could appear in caves or something?
I dunno, I really like them, I just think some of their abilities and their loot are OP for the point at which they appear. And I may mostly like them FOR their loot. Which may not be a good thing.
Maybe it's just me but I've found the Champion mobs to be pretty rare, honestly... If I see one every couple of days, I feel pretty lucky. I've also never gotten anything from them that I'd consider 'sequence breaking', especially compared with the availability of infested greatwood trees and the like (granted, I am not super familiar with the loot tables so if they drop something more sequence breaking than the greatwood tree chests, nvm I guess). I like that there's the occasional bit of added challenge to a surprise encounter, after a certain point, mundane exploration becomes a bit methodical and repetitive but when you suddenly realize that that skeleton has thorns on it... have to rethink things for a moment and I like that. I've also never seen a Tainted Champion mob before though... that sounds pretty horrendous (although I'm not necessarily opposed on principal), maybe I've just been lucky.
Maybe I missed it, but it didn't look like you could go back and read previous entries. Maybe you could have it so opening an entry would take you to the latest page but you could still go back and view the past entries only where you turn them in says completed after it's finished.
People seemed a bit sad to see golems go, So what if they were used for automating traps and mechanisms in ancient temples?
From what I understand, Azanor hadn't settled on that yet. He did ask what people would think if he got rid of them and possibly replaced them with a wisp-taming system. It also seemed like most of the feedback was against that idea, so idk. I never saw anything conclusive about it.
Heeey, just an idea.
I think you should make a focus that when you hold down your staff/wand puts up a magic shield that can reflect projectiles.
Throwing it in your off hand would be so cool, then you'd be like Gandalf!
I just think a couple of shield based things would be cool, because even after 1.9+ I've yet to see a mod that gives us new shields.
It's always new swords, tools and rarely armor.
I have a somewhat far-fetched idea about golemancy: larger, ridable golems. This could take the form of a large (crimson cult boss size) suit of mystically animated armor, or a clockwork steed. Both of these would require a substantial amount of materials, research and essentia to create and possibly require some form of fuel to operate, similar to the thaumostatic harness. Magic-based transportation has been one of my favorite parts of TC and I'd love to see it further expanded.

[humor]Clockwork steed? B!tch please, We're Thaumaturges. We'll ride in style on ThaumTechnological dragons.[/humor]
Nice ideas though. I think i'd prefer if the animated suit was used like a powersuit/armor that you control instead of ride on top of.
I think Intangible does something similar though. Still, Would be interesting to see how Thaumcraft would tackle the concept.

I support the idea of a Thaumic Powersuit, personally. After all, what Thaumaturge would be able to resist reverse-engineering the joints and the animating forces within a Crimson Cult's golem to their own purposes? Put some heavy-duty thaumic machinery on it, like a node-capturer. Add some tanks to contain & direct essentia for catastrophic destructive feats in the form of basically advanced wand foci/limbs. It'd basically be the Golem Press, but you'd actually ride around in it for great justice.
Could even add some kind of thaumic imaging to the viewport, setting the precedent for things like new forms of vision (think Thaumic Horizons' goggle lenses) earlier down the tech tree. Enchanted glass and such.
(Who wouldn't fight the Wither in a specially shielded mech, using thaumostatic/essentia-powered jets to fly up and punch it in the face? I would do that. That would be awesome.)
EDIT: Also, I hope Thaumcraft 6 does include some special enchanted shields. I don't think I've seen any 1.10 mods that do anything interesting with them, even though there were plenty of unofficial shield mods that had a lot of variety. Really, there's a lot of potential for TC6 to explore the off hand slot.
kinda had a random thought i wanted to ask anzor. it's not a thing i want to see it's just a what if thing. what is the stance that thaumaturges would have with the other magic mods (botaiana ars magicka2 and blood magic) in a lore like state? also more of an stright out there that came from playing a diffrent mod, what would they view pokemon/pixalmon or something from the aether 2 mods like?

You mean how do they get along and stuff?
My head cannon personally is that you're kinda at odds with everyone, seeing as even fellow Thaumaturges don't like you for going into warp.
But head cannon is no answer, so I hope Azanor can give a real one. lol
Also, can someone give me some advice on getting Alienis essentia?
It's so hard to get and Ender pearls are so needed/rare! :s

I play only with the top notch mods only, which instantly excludes orespawn and lucky blocks.

My guess:
Botania: A bunch of hippies with their hippie magic
Ars magicka: People who learn how to make spells, than stick to what they know instead of researching other stuff, really stuck up old dudes probably
Blood magic: Tehnicaly magic, but up there with taint stuff, wouldn't touch it with a thaumium embosed pole
Pixelmon: They probably know about it, but since they're not magic they disregard it as "stuff for zookeepers"
Aether: Another dimension with nothing special regarding magic, at least in overworld you don't need to watch your step all the time, more people too
Looks cool!

Wait, I thought golemancy was still in the latest dev version, just in a different form? Golem press, scanning iron or snow golem to unlock the tab.
I just took the Minecraft Noob test! Check out what I scored. Think you can beat me?!

I'm not sure.
I think i might have confused myself, 'Cause i can't remember what the verdict for golems was.

Whatever.
Azanor, this is a great mod. Thaumcraft 6 is going to be legendary.
Wands are going to be removed?
