the speed these boots provide is an incredible combat advantage. you can sprint away from a creeper who snuck up on you, before he blows up. if youre fast enough, you even get far enough out of range to diffuse him.
I can usually kill creepers before they can blow up. That which does not kill me had better be able to run like hell.
Hiya, sorry i know this is going to be some stupid error on my part; I was trying to make a pack for personal use, but i keep running into an annoying error:

Usually errors like that tend to be caused by mods using an outdated version of Thaumcrat's api. Start by making sure you're using the latest recommended versions of any addons. If it's still not working then I'd suggest doing the same with the rest of your mods as the api is not exclusively used in just addons.

Due to my snarky and sarcastic personality I can easily be seen as a jerk. If I've offended you in any way it was likely unintended.
Well I was raised to never present a problem if I didn’t have some sort of solution, so here it goes. What is one of the first thaumcraft things a player comes across in the minecraft world, without the need of a thauminomicon? Shards. What if the first time a player picks up a shard, with a book in their inventory, they get a journal. This journal would be a starter thauminomicron of sorts. with notes on how to build a research table, and a very basic thaumimeter, using only two shards, a glass block, and a stick, creating a more classic magnifying glass. With this, the player would only be able to observe primal aspects, with the rest showing up as question marks. With this information, the player could then start to advance into what we know now, researching basic wands and the more advanced thaumimeter, and eventually the journal becomes the thauminomicon we have now.
I know that this is a lot to add only to just get back to where we currently start, but I honestly feel this could very well enhance the journey of the player through the awesome and epic story that Thaumcraft brings into minecraft.
Or, Maybe you create a Thaumic Tuning Fork, Allowing you to listen to the "magical Resonance" in objects. Magical objects are obviously easily distinguishable from their rhythm, While other objects have a more subtle cadence.
Could be a little like those old "find the frequency/Match the waves" games if it becomes a minigame.
I made a golem. I love my golem. I upgraded my golem. My golem doesn't love me. This can't be possible, must be a glitch. (How would you feel about making my buddy able to love?)

I've been thinking about this, and I think sirdaniel is onto something.
The very first vis shard that you mine gives you a message along the lines of, "You can feel a strange, yet somehow familiar, power emanating from these crystal shards. You wonder whether there are other similar kinds of shard to be found."
Second distinct shard type, "This shard has a different, yet similar, power to the first you found. How many types are there?" If you haven't already crafted a wand, "You are sure there should be a way to tap into this power and put it to use, but you'll need to devise a suitable tool."
Third distinct shard type, if you don't already have a wand by then, "You think you can craft a wand to manipulate the power in these shards. A simple wooden rod should suffice for the core, but it will need some kind of end caps to channel the energies. Perhaps you could craft suitable caps from small pieces of metal?" That ought to be a broad enough hint to anyone to start experimenting with different metal nuggets to see what you can make from them. You can actually craft the wand at any time, whether you've found shards or not, but finding shards gives you hints to nudge you on your way if you don't already know how.
Once you figure out how to craft a wand, "You have made a discovery! You are going to need something in which to record your discoveries ... but you have a feeling no single book would be enough. Perhaps your new wand can transform something into a suitable tome." And once you've figured out that clue and used your wand to craft a thaumonomicon from a bookcase, the thaumonomicon will contain the usual starting set of basic information, including the recipe for the arcane workbench. "You're going to need a place to work. You think your wand's ability to change things into new forms may be of use here as well." Then once you've created a workbench upon which to craft a thaumometer, "Perhaps you could use some of the shards themselves to make a tool that would be sensitive to the shard energies, and maybe even detect them in other things as well." Which would of course be a tip to look for the recipe for the thaumometer.
I personally rather like mods with achievements for this purpose. As they act as a basic teaching guide to progress through the mod. And mousing over the next achievement typically tells you or hints strongly at its requirements.

Which is good for tech mods, or magic mods like botania/blood magic, but not thaumcraft. Thaumcraft has research to provide simultaneously documentation and to spur forward progress.

Truth to tell, I tend to forget to even look at achievements. And the biggest problem with achievements is their dependency — particularly with the vanilla achievements, I never get all of the achievements because there are basic steps required to start the achievements tree, like making a wooden sword, that I never even bother to do unless I want to go back and fill the achievement tree. My first set of tools are almost invariably stone. Maybe better, if I got lucky early with a village forge chest. Sometimes I have diamond tools already before I bother making a wooden pick ... if I ever do. (And for that matter I seldom make diamond tools any more, because by the time I have enough diamonds to fritter them away on making tools, I probably already have better tools, and certainly have better uses for the diamonds.)
Achievements might be more useful if you didn't have to get all of the achievements leading up to a particular one to get credit when you do it anyway.
Vanilla achievements are totally broken because of the dependency thing, I agree. It's even worse on SMP where players are sharing tools and resources. That said, having Thaumcraft achievements would be cool (especially for 'bad' things like maxing out the warp meter or going to wizard hell).
The extra mobility from Boots of the Traveler more than makes up for the loss of armor. Flying doesn't work so well in enclosed spaces, but running like a cat on fire does. They can be a liability if you're not careful, though. Haste III Boots of the Traveler in the Nether is a good way to accidentally launch yourself off the side of a nether fortress walkway and take a swim in a lava ocean. Ask me how I know

Do you even fast? What about potions of swiftness II?
Aha! Very enlightening, thank you! Yes, and I'm (not?) seeing the invisible enchants, too. I'll talk to my friend who runs the server.
As for Boots of the Traveller... I made my first set a few days ago and have fallen in love. They are awesome! Totally worth the slight reduction in armor.
Only problem is that with them, there's no need to tame horses, and I just found a plains next to a savannah that had seven herds of horses and one of donkeys all in a row! Never seen anything like it.

Welcome to the "fast crowd". Horses just want to eat your gold, anyway.

I did some CraftTweaker scripts for Mystical Agriculture. They fill in a couple of small gaps in MA, and also let you make or duplicate not only vanilla plants, but the blocks, plants and wood from Quark and Biomes O'Plenty. Also spawn eggs for most vanilla mobs! The scripts are here on Github.

The big problem is that as others have noted, the achievements system is not only buggy and unreliable, it's inconspicuous. Look at Twilight Forest, which used achievements for its progression system, producing a steady stream of questions and complaints to its forum thread, mostly: "What's going on?", "I didn't get credit for killing X", and "How do I disable progression?"

I can usually kill creepers before they can blow up. That which does not kill me had better be able to run like hell.
But I will give a pair a try sometime.

Usually errors like that tend to be caused by mods using an outdated version of Thaumcrat's api. Start by making sure you're using the latest recommended versions of any addons. If it's still not working then I'd suggest doing the same with the rest of your mods as the api is not exclusively used in just addons.
My modpacks:
Brave New Worlds (exploration-based, FTB Launcher, pack code: BraveNewWorlds)
Song of the Earth (JamPacked 2, in development)
Or, Maybe you create a Thaumic Tuning Fork, Allowing you to listen to the "magical Resonance" in objects. Magical objects are obviously easily distinguishable from their rhythm, While other objects have a more subtle cadence.
Could be a little like those old "find the frequency/Match the waves" games if it becomes a minigame.
I'm curious. Why would you want to disable cinderpearl spawning? Most of us lament that shimmerleaf and cinderpearl are non-renewable.
Maybe horses could make a comeback if there were, say, enchanted horseshoes to improve them?
EDIT: And I see what you mean by the 'fast crowd'. I'm already scraping together the stuff for Haste enchants to make them Even Faster!
I'm trying to alter what drop and what doesn't in those chests, but can't determine which it uses.
