You clearly haven't tried mining at low elevations yet.
It would definitely be possible, and in fact that's a lot closer to the original concept I had for the Carpenter's Bench's design back when it was actually named the Sawmill. However, the main reason I didn't go with a more literal sawblade design is because it'd be rather inconsistent with the other machines in the game. As with Pistons, Dispensers, and Crushers, basically anything with moving parts requires power -- which would imply that a rotating saw blade would also require power of some kind. The one option would be to make it powered off fuel items like a Furnace, but having to waste a bunch of fuel crafting wood stairs would get really obnoxious really fast. The other option would be to make it redstone powered, but then you couldnt craft any wood stuff until you've done a bunch of mining, which would throw off our whole game tiering system. So for now, we're probably leaving it as the "crafting table specialized for wood-cutting" design -- though you can always make a resource pack that changes the model.
Lagging.
Ok.... That's not useful at all in fixing the crash. What exactly were you doing.
Loading chunks, exploring. Then I crashed and no crash report came up. That's just my game output.
Hmmmm odd ill try and figure it out

It's out! The Minestrappolation 4 Official Alpha has finally been released! Check out our brand new thread HERE for more info.
IMPORTANT UPDATE: Some of you may have noticed the new thread randomly went down today. We don't know what happened; it appears to have simply deleted itself after we tried to add a video to the main post. We've put in a support request with the Curse team, but we don't know when they'll get back to us, so in the mean time, please post all your questions, comments, etcetera here.
Sorry for the inconvenience. Don't know why this had to randomly happen less than a day after we released the new thread.
EDIT: Okay, managed to track down a cached version of the thread from before it got deleted. The formatting might be pretty wonky, but it should have all the walkthrough and download info that you'd need until we get the new thread back online.
EDIT AGAIN: Apparently it's back up now. Idunno. Anyways, deleted all that duplicate text since it's no longer necessary.
woo 1.7.10
lol, the 1.7.10 version is actually broken. I recommend using the updated 1.8 version instead, since the 1.7 version crashes every time you craft food or tools.
Crap I'm making a 1.7.10 modpack.
