I am having issues as well installing this. I have tried working with clean versions of 1.6.2 and 1.6.4, SP and MP. I open up the mod zip and copy the contents (all for SP, just minecraft folder for MP) over to the versions .jar and delete the META.INF. But I don't see any GUI in game, and no dotted outline of villages show up. I've watched all the install tutorials I can find and follow them to the letter, but something is not working for me.
Edit: I've followed the instructions given above but i don't understand what i means to "copy and paste all the single player mod files into the VillagerMarker.jar" and don't we have to delete the META INF? After I downloaded the file, inside the rar. file there is a file named 'minecraft' inside it has 3 class files with another fine named 'net' which should i move into my jar. file?
I have the same problem. There are only three class files in the Village Marker zip file I downloaded (for Minecraft 1.7.2). I dragged those files into a new 1.7.2 jar file and renamed everything I needed to, but that did not work. I tried to move the edited and renamed jar file into the "mods" folder in .minecraft to try to use with Forge, which also didn't work (When I logged in with the forge account, nothing showed up in the mods section). I also tried following the steps ugioh posted. I followed them EXACTLY and when I launched Minecraft on the VillageMarker profile, it was as if I had not installed the mod. There was no "VM" button in the pause screen or dots around any villages.
Btw, I am running Windows 7 and using Minecraft version 1.7.2 (for the mod--I usually use a 1.7.4 profile because of Optifine).
I have had trouble installing mods in the past with this computer, and I really have no idea what I am doing at this point. I would appreciate if someone better at this than me could help!
NetherDwellar, It worked perfectly for me. I'd been having all sorts of trouble getting it to work, then followed this step by step exactly and it worked... Except for 1 thing.
Don't forget to delete the "META-INF" folder between steps 5 and 6.

For anyone who wants to use this mod along with optifine to complete the iron foundry (or trench if you're that inclined), the farm will not work with optifine because of the chunk loading options in optifine that unload the spawn chunks regardless of the nether portal trick. At least to my knowledge because of prior experiences.
I installed this mod and it was working fine but when I close the game and restart the launcher and the game, it's like it's downloading a fresh copy of the game each time and it overwrites the mod files. how do you stop this? And before you ask, I have it set to only run 1.7.2 and not the latest version.
I installed this mod and I can't seem to be able to bring up the options panel I am using 1.7.2 I installed it right. I am using the single player version.
I just get a small VM button that seems to do nothing when i press on it.
Ok I figured it out I am guessing the Single player archive is missing something, because I downloaded it like 10 times and redid it 10 times and got the same results as above. I then downloaded the multiplayer version and just put in the non-server class files as I would for the single player version and everything worked just fine.
Thanks KaboPC I been waiting for this since the older version
as of right now no it not compatible I tried it. and it crashes out in everything > 1,7.4 I feel some of you people are lazy it only takes about 1 minute to mod the version and another to find out if it will work.

test it? 'find out if it will work' ? when the forum (title)(contents) themselves have not been updated to reflect compatibility? please. I'll test a compatible mod to see if I LIKE it, but not just to see if it merely works with the current version. what do I look like, a beta tester?
does this work with forge? I used MultiMC and dropped the 1.7.10 file into the mods section but it does not show up. is it forge or something else i am doing wrong?
Also, thanks hayashiaska for the update. looks like KaboPC hasn't even logged in here for about 5 months.
Awesome dude. Thanks so much. Quick question though: would 1.8 need a different method of how a mod detects villages?
The mod doesn't "detect" villagers. It just changes what Minecraft does with the village data. In this case, it draws lines and dots using the X,Y,Z coordinates of every house and village centers. I haven't peeked into the sourcecode of 1.8, but it should be similar...

This will not work with Forge as its a traditional "copy & replace .class files" type of mod.
Any tips or ideas on how to get this working?

I have the same problem. I need access to these settings because the spawn boxes are making it so I can't see where I'm going when I stack them up.
Im on 1.7.2, and everything seems to be ok.... works on my SP but not my Hometown server?
Does the home town server HAVE to have this mod as well for it to work?

I too would like to know if the post will be updated for this to reflect compatibility with 1.7.9/10 and 1.8+

I've decompiled and modified the codes to work in version 1.7.10 today...
Enjoy!
- I also fixed the menu button not working issue...
