Its a Forge mod, so install Forge and put the mod in the "mods" folder, and you should be good to go.

thank man finally got it running. do you also know how to heat mithril?? got a obsidian forge with obsidian block around it and lava around that. but can not get it to workable.
You don't need the lava around it, but you need to fuel it with nether coal ("infernal coal") or dragon coal ("hellfire coal") or maybe a lava bucket(? -- not tested in recent versions).
A 3x3 obsidian below, same with a hole in the middle on the next level, obsidian forge in the hole -- no need for lava near by. The fuel it like a normal forge but use the special coal.

thanks man finally got it working and figured out most of the rest.
the only thing i dont know how it works is the repairing items.

Well, you have to make a repair hammer. You put the item on the anvil and hit it with the repair hammer. The basic repair hammer isn't that good (slow, breaks fast). The artisan repair hammer is awesome. You have to craft the repair hammer into is ornate version (forging it with gold, silver, and lapis using an ornate hammer) in order to fix enchanted items -- only ornate repair hammers work on anything enchanted.
The most of the exact recipes (all those as of beta 1.0) can be found in this PDF.
I just wanna say that I saw this mod way back when you had just decided to redo the whole thing and have been checking up on it every once in a while hoping to see it finished. It's really awesome that you are still working on it and I'm still excited for it even after all this time. Figured I'd leave a comment because I know that if I was working on a mod for this long then I would start to think that nobody is interested in it anymore but that is definitely not the case with this mod. Keep it up and good luck!
Still not sure what to do with the unlocking of entries (research if you will). the knowledge point system is too grindy, and even when balanced and refined isn't very interesting and more of a chore.
But yeh.. I'm confident with MF2 being way better than its predecessor. Wonder how long it would survive in a FTB pack (or similar) until being scrapped this time!
erh..if anything the hardcore mode is what's making a lot of things so unfocused.
*Well thats not to say it will be completely removed though... It just seems that if the most interesting part of the mod is the first 10 minutes... might need to look into why. HC though would need some consideration though

Honestly, I enjoyed minefantasy more so for slowed progression and realistic forging. Just made the game feel "right".
"doing the same thing over and over" that;s what grind is. there were scrolls you can find though.
I'm going back to using the vanilla xp (though stupid) for now.
And HC is more than extended progression, as it overrides a lot of the basics.(iron smelting, tool crafting etc). things like that are what got in the way.
realism isn't always the best way, since realism is boring.. finding a mix- sure, but finding the right mix is the issue

Well, I remember arguing against all the harcore stuff way back when, and then realized I liked it. Really the slowed progression was interesting, but much more than that, there the whole think where you make a good pick, keep it in repair (or replace / add one good back-up when its really low). Not just smelting up some ingots, throwing them on a stick and going on / digging out if you let yourself get lost in a cave until your pick breaks. So, more planning, more tension (if something is near its life), more consequences, etc. Still, I can seen how they cause a lot of complication, not t mention problems with conceptual compatibility.
But then, MF2 is a new mods, can't expect everything to be the same. I've heard the MF2 is sort-of MF-light in a way. So perhaps its fair that MF2 not have all the hardcore stuff, and keep those in MF1 -- espciallly if an unofficial updade were done of those versions. Options are good, and a pretty stable version of MF1 is around, so.
I'm sure people will still complete MF2 doesn't have eventhing they wanted from MF1 plus lots of new toys, but well, you can't please everyone. I may just stick with MF1 though anyway, and I'm sure there are plenty who will prefer MF2.
I did plan MF2 to be a more mod-packy-kind of thing to sort of start off. since the HC does require some learning its probably better to have know what its about first.
Anyway: I'm starting off the construction stuff with some new blocks.. and a few upgrades to existing blocks
Apart from oak planks on the edge... left is the basic tanning rack, it now breaks after a few uses, everything else is new
well anyway: Food recipes are there just not displayed yet. Plate armour is there (well not copper). and bombs are hold-until-throw
no... why would it

Kinda feel like a lazy ass taking this long actually. I keep changing things (as usual). a lot of stuff is decently refined though I guess.,.
Just adding stuff to the in-game info book though so I suppose it will be more user friendly this time.
With how amazing the snapshot already is, I think the finished version will be worth the wait.

As long as you keep hardcore mode in along with all of the features that gave the mmod a sense of realism, that will be enough for me.

Hm the ease of crafting does make it pointless.

There should be enough content now for a public release.

I love the new release :D. I just have one problem. The sword and the katana are basically the same thing, just the katana has more reach.
