I love Optifine and have used it before, it is a great mod! However, ever time I try to download it for Minecraft 1.9, adFly either:
- Opens a new tab of an ad in fullscreen and I can't close it out
- Opens a pop-up that, if I click "Ok" or something, will ruin my computer
- Opens a spam pop-up
- Or something else so I can't download it
I would say have a way BESIDES adFly to allow people to download the mod. For your sake of getting more downloads, and users' sake of getting the mod they are desperate for.
These aren't Optifine faults, these are "learning how to internet" faults.
Keyboard shortcuts, taskbar, task manager, whatever mac uses.... there are many options to get past these ads easily.
I had this same discussion/argument with a member about a week ago. He was saying the same thing... Adfly always installs dodgy malware, opens popups and windows that are impossible to close etc...
I can honestly say, in all my years modding games, I have NEVER, not once had Adfly or a similar site install something nasty, or open something I couldn't Easily close in 3 seconds flat and with 2 clicks. I don't use Adblock or anything like it as the mod authors get "Nothing" if we use that, and my rule of life is: You Don't mess with a persons income!
Also, I don't use any type of Anti-Virus, never have never will they're pointless, and still I download a dozens of mods every week, hundreds every year and never once had any issues.
@ LightningEmerald_YT Adfly and similar sites are commonly use for ALL mods, and mods for ALL games, as it's the only realistic way for mod authors to make just a tiny bit of cash as a reward/payment/thank you, for all their hard work.

If you click the word "mirror" next to the download, it bypasses AdF.ly and goes to the download. You can mouse over a download for a mod to see if it has AdF.ly in the url, and if it does, look around for another download.
That said, I personally use Adblock, so I never have issues with it. I donated to sp614x for this very reason, he is still getting paid from me.
The good news is you've got a 200 series so you can use a compatible driver.
The bad news is that driver is waaaaaaay back. 13.something or maybe 14.something I forget.

new to modding. cant live without optifine. had it for a long time. trying to install inventory tweaks which requires forge. forge 1.9 crashes whenever i try to open MC when optifine is in my mods folder. anyway to make the two work together?
If someone has an idea what is going on there or how to fix it, I would be so happy
For some reason only in a specific angle the shaderpack "seus" gets
this strange bug and only regarding items/blocks on the floor or my skin.
I am using the optifine 1.9.2 HD_U_B1
I tried almost everything I could think of:
- updating graphic card driver (crimson 16.4.1)
- different seus shaderpack versions
- fresh windows 7 install + fresh minecraft install
- VBO on/off and a lot and lot of other different variation of settings
- vanilla textures
A lot of people seem to have problems with the graphic driver from amd but I couldn't find anyone
who has the same problem as me.
Thanks for your ideas:)
As already correctly said above by Schlutt, sadly this is an ongoing AMD driver issue that has plagued users for way over a year now, might even be 2 years.
Any AMD driver newer then Catalyst 14.9 causes weird rendering artifacts with shaders enabled. There is no known fix, aside from downgrading to 14.9, which for people running Windows 10 or Radeon 300 series it's not viable sadly, they are simply stuffed
Keep 14.9 and the latest Catalyst downloaded and safe in a folder somewhere, then just install the 14.9 when you want to play MC, or if you play MC most of the time, leave 14.9 installed and only install the latest when you play a new game.

They are designed to work together as it says in the description. If you would like further help, you need to post you full crash report... BUT, when you post the report, use spoilers please, so people don't have to scroll through 1000 lines of a wall of text
I know the keyboard shortcuts but the problem is that they put it in the fullscreen mode that you can't just move the mouse to the top of the screen and get into the normal size window. This results in force quiting the browser and reopening the page, retrying, and repeat and repeat...

How fast you can close something is not an indication of anything.
The fact is that the site TRIES to open spam windows and the site (or sites it redirects to) TRIES to install malware.
The attempt alone is enough for me to be very cautious of such sites.

I was simply stating, 3 seconds to select the window and click close. In other words, I was indicating that windows opened by Adfly can be closed normally and are not these impossible super magical popups that require a system restart and OS reinstall like some people make them out to be.

And if someone's still paranoid about it, there's Adblock and Adblock Plus for Chrome.
I'm never without it, personally. Also, plenty of sites out there that can decrypt an AdFly link. But yeah, it's really not worth all the hastle of trying to avoid it. Wait five seconds and click 'Skip'. Easy.

i know about vanilla but does optifine change anything on spawn chunks
OptiFine does not directly change the handling of spawn chunks.
The option "Smooth World" can stop some entity and block updates for chunks which are far from the player in order to increase performance.
EDIT: I finally found another person with this issue a few pages back, and it seems that the issue is due to refusing to install things into AppData (which can **** off). So those like me who don't like installing things to AppData for various reasons... you're just gonna have to wait for a workaround.
Alright, so I decided to install optifine today. Sure, no problem thinks me. I'll just do what I did back in 1.8 and everything will be peachy!
Yeah, it's not. I am doing everything properly (No magiclauncher no forge none of that stuff. Just the manual installation) and every single time I try to play the game it redownloads the JAR and completely wipes optifine out.
Trying this with 1.9.2 jar with the 1.9.2 HD U B1 version. Last attempt was with the B2 version which made no difference.
Did something change in how to do this manually from 1.8? How do I prevent/circumvent/shoot it dead?
And before anyone gets any funny ideas: as a principal I refuse to use third party programs in order to launch games. So no fancypants launchers or modloaders for me. Don't bother to suggest it.

Does anyone know if CIT works or will eventually work with Elytra?

Don't know about optifine, but in vanilla
OptiFine is a client-sided modification. It doesn't change any server mechanics; even in locale single player. So no. Spawn chunks are left alone.
