Hey Mithey. It's been forever since I checked up on this thread, but I'm really glad to hear you're back to making good maps! TR1 and TR2 are some of my all-time favorite maps, both as CTMs and as general maps. I wish more mappers did things as great as you, and I can't wait to see what you create. Good luck!
I might actually be doing a very slight change in plans. I think I'm actually going to hold off on Terra Restore 1 Remastered until I at least finish up Terra Restore 2. And instead I'm also going to be working on a brand new map, assuming things with it continue to look so promising.
So yesterday I thought of a seriously brilliant way of designing a Minecraft RPG map, at least in my opinion. I can't really get into it too much right now as I essentially just started this on a whim. I think this map idea could get extremely popular and I think a ton of people would absolutely love it. I'm talking multiple hundred thousands of downloads! Maps that I've made on a whim before have generally turned out quite well too.
Anyway lemme say this much, the reason I never did a full on RPG like map before is because of two major things - the amount of time required and the inability to do frequent updates. The other day I found an amazingly clever way to be able to do updates easily while people retain their progress perfectly and also of course take a "chunk" out of the development time of it all.
That really doesn't tell you much, but if things continue to look this promising with it you might actually start to see it very soon! That's all I'm saying for now!
Also there is a new small mini map coming out in a couple of days here. I actually might be creating small mini maps every week or so often. The mini maps might not be everyone's cup of tea as they often only have a couple of days worth of development put into them, but they're there if you're interested. Medium sized maps for now are most likely going to be on hold. And of course the larger maps coming will probably include that RPG map and Terra Restore 2 whenever they get done. ^^
New mini map is up! It's a finding style Birthday themed map where you have to find presents through out 3 different Birthday themed levels. It also contains some light puzzles, parkour, and quests/tasks to do. Feel free to check it out and lemme know what you think! ^^ More mini maps are coming out soon!
Also I've been prototyping the systems for that RPG a bit and everything seems to be going pretty great so far. The system for updating the map seems to work perfectly too from what I can tell.
So about the open world RPG map. The ideas in my head for the map have been continuously growing at what feels like an exponential rate. I honestly think the map will surpass Terra Restore in many aspects, and will be things that Terra Restore wasn't quite capable of achieving. But yeah, the map so far is turning into quite the dream project!
I'm still of course in early stages of it's development. Right now I'm in the concept phase trying to nail down what exactly will be in the map, why it will be, and how I'm going to do it. I'm also again prototyping and refining things as I go.
I might be having a demo/test map of it being released at some point within the next couple of weeks. The demo/test probably won't contain anything that major or "official". Before that can happen though I need to nail down the majority of what the map is, why, and how. Also I need to create a concept/demo town, dungeon, and possibly player base. Basically the demo/test map would be there to get people to test out the idea and give me their feedback. Then afterwards I might be getting rid of the town, dungeon, and mayyybe the player base and getting to the real thing.
To try and sum up the map idea in it's current form/idea into one sentence: An ever expanding open world RPG full of bite sized content that you can go out and explore and find the secrets of while progressing and upgrading several things including your base, character, and much more. ^^
Anyway, that's all for now, I may try and tell you all some planned features in the next post as I nail the features down here!
So I just started the map and I think it is awesome. I have reached the lvl with the cooling stations, but for some reason, my cooling stations are doing nothing to cool me down. It makes the area basically unplayable. Am I just supposed to somehow hit myself with snowballs?
P.S. I did not see a place specifically for bugs, so I hope this works. Thanks!

the cooling stations work for me but i think you either throw the snowballs into the air and then catch them and you dont actually need a cooling station you need to stand on stone bricks [which is only found in cooling stations :P] ps if youre playing on a version newer than 1.9 you need to play on 1.9 i think theres a bug with the /execute blablabla detect blablabla command
Alrighty, lemme go over some of the various features planned for my new open world RPG project! I spent a few days there getting the majority of things organized and fairly thought out in like 25 pages of notes. xD
Planned features *Map updates don't cause you to lose any progress and are easy to install!!! *Constant updates - New updates, changes, and additions every week or so! *Chunk sized variety content - The world is split into chunks and offer a large variety of content to experience. Dungeons could take as little as 5 minutes or potentially an hour or more to conquer. *Open world - The world is pretty open for you to explore and contains a small overworld to connect areas. However some areas are only accessible if you meet certain requirements. *Secrets - There are a ton of secrets spread through out the world for you to find and things to unlock! *Dungeons - Through out the world there are a ton of dungeons for you to try and conquer. Dungeons contain treasures and riches, parkour, puzzles, boss fights, events, traps, challenge, special/unique mechanics, variety and much more! *Character leveling - As you progress through the map you will gain levels in a custom leveling system. Monsters you encounter will become easier as you level more. *Custom items - There are a ton of items out there to find and collect including custom weapons, armor, recipes, trophies, materials, right clickable custom effect items, and much more! *Music - Each area has music attached to it so you can immerse yourself even more. *Custom models - There are a great degree of custom models through out the map including weapons, hats, abilities, mobs, and environment detail! Models are designed around the look and feel of Minecraft to not feel too out of place. *Player town - As the player progresses they gain the ability to create and expand a town of their own making. The town serves as a place where the player will be able to safely keep their goodies, put up trophies, craft new items, harvest and maintain crops, gather materials, and interact and trade with NPCs that move in. *Achievements/challenges - Achievements and challenges are a big part of the map and offer guidance and suggestions on what to try and tackle on and work towards next! They also allow you to better track your progress. There will be achievements for beating a dungeon within a time limit, killing boss fights on harder difficulties, finding special secrets, reaching certain levels, and more! *Story - The world will contain a setting, different factions/groups of people, individual NPC stories, and a main story line. The story is fairly basic and isn't too focused or important as to not be intrusive and put up an English language barrier. *Towns - Towns will contain quests, shops, minigames, inns, and more! *Death penalty - On death you will lose a small portion of your gold currency. In addition items that are fairly easily obtainable also have a small chance of vanishing from your inventory. *Multiplayer scaling - The map has the option of scaling monsters and such up for multiplayer. *Difficulty options - The map will contain difficulty options which don't only change the Minecraft difficulty but also change monsters, spawners, and more. *Inspirations - The map is inspired by games such as Harvest Moon, Paper Mario, Legend of Zelda, Final Fantasy 5, Astonia 3, Dark Cloud 2, Kingdom Hearts, Star Ocean: Till the End of Time, and World of Warcraft! *Low PC requirements - The map is designed around being perfectly enjoyable even with a crappy computer, while still being quite advanced. *Community - People in the community will be able to help contribute toward the map. However contributions must follow certain guidelines, fit the map's theme/feel, and be of good enough quality. *Uniqueness - The map is full of unique custom systems and gameplay. There is a big focus on creativity, gameplay, and variety in the map.
Potential features *Seasons and time - To make the game feel like even more like a world there will be seasons where the weather changes, the grass and leaves turn color, and special events can occur based on time. *Classes - You can choose what kind of character you play as which would have special perks and gear more heavily aligned with specific attributes. You could be a ranged archer, a tanky knight, a druid with wolves, a witch with magic and debuffs, a balanced adventurer, a battle hardened warrior, a master of the divine priest with healing capabilities, an engineer with mechanical skeleton turrets, or a berserker with blazing speed. *Optional group dungeons - Dungeons designed specifically for group play that require coordination and team work. *Talents - As your character levels up you gain access to talents/perks to customize your character. *Professions - Level up and work on different professions to obtain and craft powerful and useful items. *Pet system - You'll be able to have a wolf companion, or possibly other mob, follow you around and help you fight. The pet won't be able to die for good but will have the potential of being knocked out for a period of time.
The game will also be based in adventure mode, keep inventory will be on, natural mob spawning off, and mob griefing off.
Those are the planned and potential features that I have in mind. Not all of them might end up getting added in the end, and some might even become more advanced and expanded upon. Not all features will be added right away either, and will be added in along with map updates.
The map will likely go through 4 or 5 major stages:
*Pre-alpha/Testing - Mainly to help me get the map ready for the alpha state and to make sure everything is working as planned and people are not running into issues. The map will only be available through new forum posts on this thread. I also reserve the right to reset everyone's progress. This stage will likely not last very long.
*Alpha - No longer in "concept/prototype" phase; content you see will be likely intended to stay. The map will be available in the main forum post. I still reserve the right to reset everyone's progress, however I will do my best to avoid it at this point. This stage could last a month or more.
*Beta - All planned features are in. I will no longer have the option available to me to reset everyone's progress completely. Map will also become available on Minecraftmaps. This stage could last a month again or more.
*Official/Release - All features polished up to a great degree. Any major bugs squashed. Potential features that make the cut should also now be added in. Map will now be more focused on creating content rather then features/systems. I'll likely begin accepting community contributions. Map will also probably become available on Minecraft Realms. This stage will most likely last for quite a long time as long as I continue to support it, people remain interested, and if it doesn't become too out of date.
*Finished - Map is completely finished and complete. No more content will be added at this point. Any updates that happen will be bug fixes and tweaks. This might not happen for a very long time, especially if I end up handing the project to someone else to continue updating.
Anyway, that's the plan with that map! Feel free to lemme know what you all think of such an idea! Hopefully things continue to go smoothly and the map will be a big success!
Thanks!
I haven't really heard of such an issue, it might be a Minecraft version issue or something. Going into the cooling stations are suppose to cool you down. Snowballs are basically only meant for blazes for fun. You could try re-entering the area or if nothing seems to work you should be able to manually set your temperature each time you're at a cooling station by running this command: /scoreboard players set @a Temperature 37.
I've been trying to come up with ideas for a main storyline/setting for the new open world RPG map. One of the ideas I'm actually very much considering and liking is actually re-using the Terra Restore world setting. As in for example there being tension between animals/humans/monsters, The Magma Legion being out and about and up to no good, the creatures from the void making more of an appearance, you having to restore the world in some form, etc.
I might even continue the Terra Restore storyline itself in the map, of course leading off where it was left off in the ending of Terra Restore 1. Seeing how the map would be quite a fair bit different than Terra Restore, I will probably end up calling it a different name rather then "Terra Restore 3". However I would probably keep one word of it like the "Restore" part.
Terra Restore isn't the most friendly map to develop unfortunately, as such a Terra Restore 3 honestly might not ever happen. Not to mention there are some things I'm personally not the biggest fan of with the map type, such as how the map being a CTM and how the player is almost always in survival mode is quite limiting, how combat only focused the majority of the map is with not a ton of variety, how unfriendly the map is for YouTubers, etc. Even though it's still definitely a really good map and obviously no map is perfect!
So this might be a perfect way of continuing the story and map in some form. Not to mention it would probably save me a fair bit of time thinking up another interesting setting. Also a lot of people would probably appreciate such a thing a lot too. Also there is a lot of "character" to the Terra Restore setting that would be really nice to continue to use.
So all around there is a lot going for re-using and continuing the Terra Restore story, I might just use it!
In other news on the RPG map things are slowly getting there. I have a system down for balancing items down pretty solid this time...
I made a whole formula for balancing items - basically depending on what attributes/characteristics the items have will depend on how good an item is. Such as for example, an item which is breakable and repairable will be 10% more powerful than an unbreakable one.
I also made a graph balancing out each attribute in comparison to how far you are in the map. Right now I'm thinking the map will have 6 tiers in total in terms of loot - that's how I have it roughly balanced around at least.
I also have a system where certain attributes can only appear on certain items - for example movement speed can only appear on boots, armor can only appear on boots+leggings+chestplate, luck can only appear on hats, (hats will be mostly, but not purely, cosmetic) etc. Attributes can appear on items that they are not suppose to be on, however they will be super rare and will be penalized fairly harshly. Anyway such a system will help me greatly with balancing things and certain attributes/items don't mix all that well either anyway - example: main hand item with max health that you constantly switch; you end up constantly losing that extra health anyway.
I'm starting to come up with a better system for making areas too, one where I get way more details about the area planned out before actually making it. Also one where I more carefully make sure the area fits the surrounding areas, the theme, and map in general.
But yeah, basically I'm coming up with all these different systems while prototyping stuff. Right now I'm thinking all content (not systems) and progress in the pre-alpha will be deleted when the alpha version comes out.
Anyway that's all for now again I think! There will be another mini map released there later on today, it's another finding style one in a Christmas theme this time.

The RPG Map continuing where TR1 left off actually sounds like a cool idea IMO, opens up a ton of new possibilities for you to use to expand the world that you have created and the story behind it.^^
As for the Christmas map, I'm definitely gonna check that out
I have finally completed Sad Panda Adventures 2, but I've still only found 3/4 of the hidden pandas in the last level. Can I get a hint?
edit: Nevermind I finally found a let's play that dug that far. Too many people just finish the levels and don't poke around for the secrets. This map wouldn't have been as fun without me finding those ridiculous hats. Really the custom modeling all around was incredible, but seriously, these hats.
Heya hey everyone, I have some pretty huge news for all who follow me.
This year I honestly learned quite a ton about map making, myself, and life. I've been through some good and some pretty crappy times this year, but hey, I've gained experience over time. I've even honestly made quite a number of mistakes. I even pushed myself a lot, especially in terms of map making. And honestly, I probably pushed myself a bit too much. I pushed myself a bit too overboard that I got burnt out time and time again with working on Terra Restore 2 and maps in general.
Some reasons I pushed myself so hard was because I was never in that great of a financial situation, I really wanted my whole map making dream to work, I didn't want to let down those closest to me, and my girlfriend started university and I wanted to be able to support her even more and take things even more seriously and make her proud and happy, among other reasons. I ended up pushing myself so hard that I went past my limits time and time again. That caused me a great deal of stress, burn out, and pressure along with other things. I've always pushed myself a lot, that's just the way I've been, but never to the degree that I did this year.
I'm not going to get into all the details (this post would become waayyyy too big to explain everything) but I basically started working so hard that I never gave myself proper breaks. As such that caused a number of problems to arise and made things become increasingly harder on me over the year. It wasn't until some time this month that I finally figured out that I was just going way too far this whole time. Some crappy things happened and I had to force myself to take a break here for over a week by not focusing at map making at all and instead focus on getting things better again and back on track.
So basically this next year I'm making a number of changes to avoid the bad things that happened to me this year. For one I'm obviously going to actually give myself breaks and I'm going to give them to myself guilt free. I'm not going to pull days where I do nothing but work. I'm probably going to even give myself a day every week where I don't focus on map making at all and just focus on relaxing and other things. I'm also going to take special care as to not push myself past my limits.
As to not push myself past my limits anymore I needed to really focus in on what I think is most important to me, and cut the things that don't seem to be of high enough priority. I decided to stop working on medium sized maps all together, and instead focus on smaller ones that I can do up in a matter of a couple of days or so. I've also now decided that I only have time, energy, and focus for one big major map at a time too, and as such unfortunately this means that Terra Restore 2 will be discontinued most likely permanently.
I'd gladly finish up TR2 if it only took a week or two, but that's just not the case. Honestly I'd say best case scenario I'd have to put in a whole month of working on nothing but TR2 to finish it. And it's just not up there in priorities anymore. It's been way too long since I've managed to put in a great deal of time with that map, there are a fair number of things that I don't like about it, (I still love the map though and it's still pretty great regardless) I've gotten quite burnt out with the map in the past from a developing standpoint, (it's definitely not all that friendly to develop) there are more important things to work on, it's slowly getting a bit outdated, there just isn't enough time, and I'm just all around more excited and motivated to work on other things.
So from here on out there will be only 3 things that I work on for the foreseeable future. They include working on:
*The new RPG map which has a high chance of turning out pretty dang amazingly and I'm all around excited to work on *Doing up small mini maps each week or so for people to enjoy *Focusing on YouTube
The way I want to shape my week right now is to spend 2 days on working on the RPG map, 2 days on a mini map, 2 days on YouTube, and of course having a whole day off. Honestly I've been wanting to focus on YouTube for a long, lonnngggg time now but there has just been way too much going on. So I'd say that's a pretty clear indication that I can't take on anything else other than those 3 big things alone.
So yeah, I'm sorry to disappoint quite a few of you all, but from here on out I need to focus on myself a bit more. As a result in the end I'll of course be much happier and I'd probably actually end up getting more and better things done as a result.
More awesome, new, and exciting content will continue to come soon after I'm done taking a short break here! Anyway, that's all for now, I hope you all have been enjoying the Winter break! ^^

I completely understand! Focus on yourself/Girlfriend. Take all the time you need! Happy Holidays!
Hey Mithey. It's been forever since I checked up on this thread, but I'm really glad to hear you're back to making good maps! TR1 and TR2 are some of my all-time favorite maps, both as CTMs and as general maps. I wish more mappers did things as great as you, and I can't wait to see what you create. Good luck!
Check out my bad CTM map reviews here.
Heya hey everyone,
I might actually be doing a very slight change in plans. I think I'm actually going to hold off on Terra Restore 1 Remastered until I at least finish up Terra Restore 2. And instead I'm also going to be working on a brand new map, assuming things with it continue to look so promising.

Also I've been prototyping the systems for that RPG a bit and everything seems to be going pretty great so far. The system for updating the map seems to work perfectly too from what I can tell.
Anyway that's all for now!

Anyway, that's all for now, I may try and tell you all some planned features in the next post as I nail the features down here!
That sounds really intriguing, Mithey! I'll be keeping my eye out for it, might be fun to play on my channel!
I wander through CTM maps, getting lost, fighting monsters, and somehow accomplishing things. I'm never too sure how, but I do. Come join me, pets!

I spent a few days there getting the majority of things organized and fairly thought out in like 25 pages of notes. xD
Planned features
*Map updates don't cause you to lose any progress and are easy to install!!!
Potential features
*Seasons and time - To make the game feel like even more like a world there will be seasons where the weather changes, the grass and leaves turn color, and special events can occur based on time.
Woo! I'm hoping the map will turn out pretty YouTube friendly this time.
I would like that but maybe don't make it be a direct spinoff with similar characters etc.

New Christmas finding mini map is up for you all to enjoy! ^^
Oooh awesome! I'm going to check this out with my kids.
I wander through CTM maps, getting lost, fighting monsters, and somehow accomplishing things. I'm never too sure how, but I do. Come join me, pets!

The RPG Map continuing where TR1 left off actually sounds like a cool idea IMO, opens up a ton of new possibilities for you to use to expand the world that you have created and the story behind it.^^
As for the Christmas map, I'm definitely gonna check that out
What is your best estimate for the completion of Terra Restore 2?
Thanks
I am a master of destruction, lord of the apocalypse and ruler of Armageddon. Fear me, puny mortals!
Glad to hear more about the RPG map! I really like the concept, and I'll probably play through the beta and alpha at all stages... Good luck!

*The new RPG map which has a high chance of turning out pretty dang amazingly and I'm all around excited to work on
*Doing up small mini maps each week or so for people to enjoy
*Focusing on YouTube
Whatever you need to do, Mithey. I'm looking forward to the RPG map and hope that you stay healthy and happy.
