Welcome to: The murders in Mushrooms-Street 42(1.8)
Good day folks! The adventure map I present to you is called "The murders in Mushrooms-Street 42", and it is about the stubborn protagonist Olaf Rumson. He is a private detective in the ages of thirty eight, who stumble upon a case in the small outskirt of the city, called Mushrooms-Street 42. It's not a pleasant place to be, especially when drug dealing and sickening discrimination is going on. It's said that four politicians of the Sovereignty Party went to this area to promote their party and to get more votes, but it soon ended in misery. They all disappeared, and was not seen in a couple of days until the receptionist of Brickling Apartments discovered two of their bodies. The other two where never found. It's up to you as Olaf Rumson to solve this mystery!

As well, thanks to all of you that have been supporting this thread and to those who have been giving suggestions about how I can improve the map:)
A full play-through of the map takes about 25 minutes.
Warning: Does contain cursing and a rough storyline. It's recommended to have some experience with Minecraft before one try this adventure.

Tips (this is only for those who are stuck!):
Warning! You are about to spoil the story! Are you sure you want to? I repeat: this is only for those who are stuck!
Well, if you insist..
1.The first puzzle in the attic is set up by two tasks. First you need to press the button in the ceiling, in the machinery room, then you can press the buttons, which will move the redstone block to the right place..
2.If you can't find Jimmy's lab, then look for narcotics which is lying on the ground. Here is an example of narcotics:
3. The dealio code that you will find on Jimmy's body is a code for the item frames in the lab. When you solve the puzzle it will open a passage between the bookshelves.
4. In the orange caravan you will find a lock picking tool, and if you have it and have solved the dealio code, then this will open the door for the storage room, next to the reception.
5. Again look for tracks of narcotica. This will lead you to the top of Brickling Apartments.
6. You will recieve an axe from the hobo which you can use on the barricades in room number .1

The details and environment were all very colorful and the story was quite entertaining. By the end, I found 15 diamonds.
My one bit of criticism is that the layout was a but confusing. You said to explore everywhere, but I kept finding places I wasn't supposed to go to until later (like the restaurant). You might want to replace that rule with "Follow the narrative" or something
Its great to get some criticism, in that case that I could improve myself (By exploring everywhere I ment that you should investigate like chests, dispensers etc. Apoligize for that! For the next time I should probably be more concrete).
Still, many thanks for playing my map!! Im already building another one, with another story I hope you liked the kind of compactness in the map
Hey - I just made a quick account as myself and a friend have just done a letsplay of your map.
Thanks! It was fun and prefect for 2x15 minute episodes.
Great fun, and some of the english was off - but made for better commentary on our part so thanks!
I think we kinda messed up the puzzle thing in the attic though!
I'll be uploading part 2 tomorrow, but for now here's the link:
Again, thanks for the map. Let me know how badly we got through it!
I have to agree with you, my english is kinda funky, AND it is a reason why: cause im Norwegian. (Note: to myself- check grammar- make it easier for people to follow the narratives). Still, thank you for playing my map! Im in this moment trying to remove a few errors in the story, so I will probably post another version of this in a few days. About the spawn, how can I make the player spawn where I want them to? I used /spawn, but it seems like people are spawning outside
Anyways, you did quite good so far:)
Review Summary
A detective story in a very small, modern era build. Follow the story book on peaceful, to investigate murders. There's not really anything to figure out in this one, and the characters are pretty unbelievable, but something about it made me enjoy the simplicity. There is an unmentioned diamond scavenger hunt as well. The visuals are not bad, but the key system and ability to use tools is player-controlled which can be abused.

I like: Boarded up doors
I like: Pink motorcycle
I don't care for the fact that the story is all in 1 book instead of multiple, shorter books, so you don't
have to keep flipping pages and keeping track of where you are in the story.
I don't care for swearing in maps, but this is ok since it's "in character" dialogue.
Way too easy to accidentally skip ahead (e.g. right to part 5 after part 2, just by going around a corner).
Is the caravan the big orange bus?
Who would write this in their journal? Seriously.
I have to say - I am enjoying this. There is a real message about racism underlying things, even though
the detective and the antagonists are horribly written.
fyi - placing a lever on the floor between the roof and room 6 would have opened both at once
I don't see why I needed the 'key' to the safe. All I had to do was right-click it. You should look into
locked chests in 1.8
This map is very cramped. What kind of fugitive just keeps switching apartments in the same building?
Why did I get a second "key to room #3" in room 3? Must be for room 5?
Used ladder on bus stop to climb to roof of restaurant. Was that the missing secret?
Not really seeing anything else to do.

Thanks rsmalec:) Im appreciating your criticism, even though it may seem rough. I will be using all of this in my next map, in that case giving the players a better experience. For example experimenting more with redstone, command blocks, barriers etc. I hope you will play my next map, when its out, and tell me what you think.
Notes to myself:
-Go more in depth with the characters( what do they do beside detective work/family/economy/any problems)
-Better narrations
-Use of more technical/mechanical blocks
- Greater challenges( like puzzles and parkour)
I am playing the version 2 of the map with my friend. The experience was okay, though there were quite a lot of grammar mistakes in the Journal. So are spelling errors too. The map was also quite confusing, we quite often were lost and did not know what to do. Also we would really like if you were to not put all the parts into one book. Something like finding a book in a chest would be better. Other than that the story was quite nice and also quite engaging. I might upload my playthrough soon.

I see.. At this moment i am making a new map, with a lot of new features, like more puzzles which is something I did not have in this map. Probably going to make more books:) Just a question for you about my upcoming map: would it be better if I made a map where you cant go to some specific ares before you have solved a puzzle/riddle/clue hunt? In that case the player need to do some more exploring. I really appreciate your comment;)
Finished plaything this map. In concept, I liked the map. Wish it was a little longer but I enjoy detective stories. Some of the grammatical errors was a pain to deal with but that can be easily fixed with edits. A suggestion I would put is instead of having a book filled with all the parts have each of the parts in their own book hidden with the item so it feels like the person is unlocking the story and its just not given to them. The main thing I have to note is the diamond hunting. I didn't feel like it fit into place for the most part. Its felt like an add on concept and it didn't feel like it had much to add. Is it suppose to be the detectives pay for solving the crime or what? Overall it was nice, rough, but nice. Hope to see it polished.
