Went on to The Skindex at minecraftskins.com, but couldn't access it because chrome told me it was a dangerous site, and even showed something called "y33tworm" or something like that. Definitely seemed sketchy to me, anyone else running into a similar issue with the site? Is there a safer alternative for creating skins that anyone recommends?
Yeah, somebody uploaded a bunch of skins labeled "Y33tworm" which had some sort of virus or something hidden in it. So yeah. That happened. Just wait a bit and the owners should delete them. Hopefully.
SAME HERE! It was a normal day when I wanted to go to novaskin and there was this Y33tworm skin and i was like ok.. wierd.. but then It shows me a red sign saying its not safe to stay on the site but it was wierd since it has never done that before... its not just Skindex .. its other popular SKIN websites! its scary!
but for now just use an app on a phone to do it! less trouble there prob! and hopefully they will take it down
BEWARE of Y33tworm!! It is a virus, do NOT open ANY skins titled Y33tworm, it has infected a couple of skin sites, if it infects your account it will steak cookies, it cannot change your password, or anything TOO bad but it WILL steal cookies and redirect you to a bad scam website, I don't know what the website does, though, because my computer blocks it. Anyways, I do know that Novaskins (I don't know about the other websites) has blocked posting, so, just to be safe, stay logged out, and if you want to upload a skin that you made during this "epidemic" save the image to your computer and upload it later. Anyways, as long as the whole Y33tworm thing is going on, stay logged out, don't upload anything, don't click on a y33tworm skin (ever), and, if at all possible, avoid the skin sites all together. Again, nothing major, but still, nobody knows the full extent of the virus so stay away at all costs. Have fun and stay safe!
All but one, it's simple and not brain surgery, only download from the members who have put effort into creating at least 10 different Skins.
I have been using Skindex for months and not had a single problem, I also use Planet Minecraft as someone mentioned above.
Look so long as you have a good anti virus program and always make it routine to scan a downloaded file before you open it then you'll be fine. Majority of anti Virus programs including Windows Defender scan files as they're downloading or after they're finished downloading.
You can find me as SirCraftypants on skindex or Sir_Craftypants on PlanetMinecraft
chrome has some fake warnings, the program is dangerous itself since it's a huge spyware, it logs every key you log, records your microphone and much more things

That's weird, because I went there earlier in the week and got no warning, yet got it just now checking on what you said.
I would recommend Planet Minecraft.
It's like the Skindex, but contains more than skins (although it does still do billions of skins), and hold contests for skins and builds and things.
They even recently added in an on-site skin maker.
Yea super weird, thanks for the recommendation!

thanks everyone, updated the title to get the word out. Very scary, makes me sick.
Nova skin (https://minecraft.novaskin.me/gallery) is (was if this is way after the orignal post) having that y33tworm issue
All but 2 y33tworm skins have been removed from www.minecraftskins.com

Do planet Minecraft. It’s glitchy, but a safe site.
