I've been tweaking my skin over the last week or so. I recently uploaded a skin when the old Minecraft.net site was up. It was fine.
After a few pixel-modifications and color swaps, the minecraft website has been updated, and now my file is too big? Even though it's the exact same file, same size, it matches the downloadable template, it has the right arms, it doesn't have any stranded outlying pixels....nothing is wrong with it!! But the site is telling me that it's too big.
My account is migrated to Mojang and everything, so it should be fine there too.
Any ideas about what's going on and how to fix it? I would really appreciate your help.

I had the same problem. I've always used Adobe Photoshop to edit my skin. Had to use the "Export -> Quick Export as PNG" then the file size dropped from 20 to 4kb.
That help site is completely useless...I've never found an answer to any of my questions/problems, and they don't respond when I try to make contact. >_>

So, I reset my skin. Apparently I have the Alex Skin base by default...When I upload and select Steve as the base, shouldn't it over-write the Alex model?
Go on Nova Skin's Editor, upload the .png skin, click "Apply" then click on the hyperlink it provides. After the tab pops up, scroll down and select "change." Hope this helped and lessened the confusion!
go to novaskin, open the skin there then click on "save". it will give you a link to download a skin that is exactly the same skin you opened there, but for some reason can be uploaded to minecraft.net

I'm having this problem too! It's really annoying! It's a png, 64x64 pixels and the file is only 16KB. Why?
