Have you ever really wished that Skyrim were more like Minecraft, or Minecraft more like Skyrim? Me too! Which is why I decided to have a go at making Minecraft as least look like Skyrim.
Riverwood is a 64x WIP pack that I've been tinkering with for the past few weeks that I hope will eventually be able to deliver that Skyrim feel while also being a great-all-around pack. Everything in here, EVERYTHING, is 100% my own work. No stock textures, no photos, nada. Just a pen, a tablet, a shot or two of Jack....well, you get the idea.
As you can see from the screenshots below, it's far from finished...and this is where I could use your help.
Please do not abuse the download link! Do not upload this pack anywhere else - the pack is still in early beta.
MORE SCREENSHOTS (click spoiler)
Beta testers wanted!
I'm looking for texture pack users and makers who are interested in giving detailed, constructive feedback on my artwork. Experience with Skyrim isn't necessary, but it's a definite plus.
If you want a chance to road-test this pack early, leave a comment below with a few words about why you'll be a good beta tester, and I'll send you a download link.Download link now available above. After that....use, enjoy, and leave feedback!
Current Plans:
Riverwood is not intended to be a 'omg that looks EXACTLY like Whiterun/Riften/Solitude' pack. Given the variety of textures in Skyrim, that would be impossible. Instead, I want to give minecraft players the feel that they are in Skyrim, allowing them to experience that intangible aura that comes from exploring the ancient land of the nords. With that in mind, there are necessarily going to be a few textures that have no corresponding reference in Skryim (like rails), but I intend to do my best to stick to the theme.
For detailed tool, armor, and mob plans, click the spoiler button below. Things with ??? next to them are categories where I have no idea what to do. So any ideas for these things would be most welcome.
Blocks:
Redstone ore-- dwemer scrap
Redstone (trail)-- dwemer pipes
Redstone block-- clock-work dwemer thingy, possibly animated.
Mushroom biome-- Ash plains of Solstheim
Nether-- Oblivion plain from 'Oblivion' Blackreach
End-- Apocrypha (Hermaeous Mora's realm from DragonBorn) The soul cairn
Houstonia-- Tundra cotton
Alium-- Thistle
Iron block-- Decorative iron eagle
Gold block-- Dwemer puzzle cube
CTM Version:
I have this idea for the main version of the pack to be the ultimate experience for explorers/map-makers/servers by having certain blocks change by biome and height using MC patch.
Iron door-- Changes to Dwemer door at y~12
Flowers-- Vary by biome, with deathbell common in swamps
Long grass-- Vary shape by biome
Stone bricks-- Turn icy in snow biomes
Q: Do I have to use MC patch?
A: Not technically-- the pack will still function without it-- but you'll be missing out on a lot of really awesome features. About 30% of the meat of this pack comes from CTM. Without CTM....it's like a hamburger without the patty. Just buns.
Q: Can I submit ideas/reference pics?
A: Certainly! Please do. I play Skyrim on the PS3, so my reference pics are all pretty shoddy, and I could always use another pair of eyes when looking for that perfect texture.
Q: Can I help you make textures?
A: Thanks, but no thanks. I want this pack to be 100% my own original work. There are also quality control issues, and I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings by turning down something that isn't quite up to snuff.
Q: Can I use X texture in my pack/remix/etc?
A: No. Don't bother sending me a PM, because the answer will still be no.
Q: Well...can I use this pack for my video/map, then?
A: Yes, so long as you link back to this page (please). Don't put up your own download, just point your fans to this post. If you have a special map/mod bundle you want to make for your server, and absolutely must include this pack in your download, please drop me a comment. We can work something out.
Q: Are these textures really your original work?
A: Yes, they are. Everything in here is 100% hand drawn. No photos or stock textures used.
Q: I saw X texture in another pack! You stole it!
A: If you see any of these textures somewhere else, it means that someone is stealing from ME, not the other way around. I have more than enough evidence sitting on my computer to prove that all this artwork is my own, so please don't go there.
Well, I've played 100+ hours of Skyrim (PC Version)(the sad part is, that's no exaggeration). And, while I don't have the expansion, I'd love to try the pack myself as a 'beta tester'!
I might not be one with artistic skill, at very least not equal to yours at all, but I'd nonetheless like to try this out. Give it whirl, likely toss you up some ideas :>
DAMNIT!!!
I just wanna be the first poster on ONE Steelfeather's pack.

I LOVE THIS PACK SO MUCH.
I would like to Beta test too (Just so I can get an early copy )
I think that I would be a good Beta tester because I can be honest, have some experience with Skyrim, and am a long time texturer myself
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
The official Bluebird continuation is underway! Please come and help keep the pack alive!
'beg pardon, but... I just don't feel the Skyrim vibe at all. Not any more than any other texture pack anyway. It's just not Conan the Barbarian enough
But I guess the keyword is "inspired" and not "verisimilitude" so i'll just shut up.

Considering the fact that skyrimminecraft(whoopsie) is made of cubes, it's difficult to transfer the feel of a rounded world. Most of these textures, however, have exact (or, well, almost exact) matches in skyrim. I hope that as more gets made you'll start to get more of the 'vibe'.
Also, in my defense, none of the other 'skyrim' packs I've seen have looked much like skyrim either, haha.
I have been experience playing Skyrims but I only played it once a while. But according to my experience with minecraft skyrim texture packs, most of them are just crap and your pack might be only best SKYRIM TEXTURE of whole minecraft community! I may not have experiences of making texture pack or draw it really well. But I would give you more strongly best suggests because i used many texture packs. But most of them just make me want to make my own but I'm always struggling with what I like to prefer like lightish, darkish, doku style, or any other rpgs. I would like to be a BETA tester because I am more honest to give you more suggests. Also I love to skyrim and I would like to see best Skyrim texture pack with your work. I don't want any other crappy or bland textures of skyrim in minecraft. I'm always inspired by your works and I kept using your texture pack. Because your texture packs made my buildings look beast and I would love to help you out more to get more BEAST Texture pack!! Keep going Steel! You will never stop inspiring people by your works!!
What, you're not planning on putting in the classic iron set?
I am disappoint ._.
Eh, it's all up in the air. I've got steel tools listed right now because iron is the crappiest level of weapon in skyrim, but iron tools in minecraft are pretty good. But we'll see.

You know I would love to beta test
For redstone lamps I think it would fit with a dwemer inspired lamp. I'll look around and see if i find a nice reference. As for glowstone. I don't think there is something similar in the oblivion planes. Could be hard to find something lore friendly that fits in.. As for glowing rock, there are some in Blackreach
Being a long-time lurker of the texture pack forum and a fan of your packs, I figured I'd make an account so I could offer to be a beta tester. I have plenty of free time to test new additions to the pack, take screenshots (with shaders, if you want!) as well as give examples from Skyrim for my ideas since I have all three DLCs, each completed. I'm quite selective with what texture packs I use--being a builder and such--but from what I see here this one could easily become one of my few favorites. I already have a few ideas typed out and ready for a post/PM, so I'd be glad to share them with you! Great work so far, by the way; this really has that Skyrim vibe.
Okay, some quick stuff I want to get out the way 1st:
I might just be my eyes giving blowing my mind a bit, but the stonebricks, mainly when placed on the ground, can look more like the mortar is embossed rather than the bricks...It's difficult to explain. And, like I said, it might just be me...I'm not sure(?) Perhaps if you tried darkening the moartar a tad? Or, at least, giving a clearer contrast between them, but contrast, colour, or otherwise.
I cannot help but a tiling issue with the stone...It's at the bottom, near the right-corner. It's relatively subtle, but I still notice it every-time... :S
The gold ore, upon seeing first-time, seemed more like redstone ore to me. It could be my eyes again, but the gold ore really does look simply too orange...Little more to suggest here other than to brighten that up :>
The cracks of the cracked stone bricks really do not stand out enough imo, they're just too shallow from a distance, imho.
Gravel's tiling shows a noticeable, but not really that prominent, vertical line.
It's right near the centre of the texture
The larger 2 bricks of the cobble towards the bottom can also be a little jarring, but I'm guessing this is possibly semi-intentional anyway
I don't really see the detail in the dirt texture, looks more noisy than anything to me. I'd mark this as more of an issue, if it wasn't for the fact that I'm betting this has been done purposely to reflect Skyrim's dirt
I know this is more a SKYRIM pack, but consider the oblivion gates for your obsidian+netherportal textures, ex: http://elderscrolls....alGreatGate.png The sides of the large-most portal (with them lava-cracks) would make a fince basis for obsidian textures if you ask me :>
There's a place called 'Vivec City' in morrowind. Now, I don't have Morrowind myself, but what I could gather from the elderscrolls wikia (including THIS IMAGE). There seems to be architecture there that could easily serve as inspiration for your sandstone textures. I think they'd fit rather well in that style, but it's your call
Perhaps, to utilise cobble or stonebrick more, use top CTM to recreate these pathways, Mossy cobble/stonebrick could also be used as grassed-over variants.
That's it for now. Just a few things
Hope I helped, maybe...
-I'll revisit the stone and gravel
-The gold ore is definitely, absolutely gold on my screen. I can't imagine how you could mistake it for being red. Maybe the color is off on your screen?
-Dirt is...a thorn in my side. I have the unfortunate tendency to attack tiling errors until I end up with something smooth and texture-less. I'll see what I can do.
-Nice ref for sandstone. There's a little eagle carving on their that I like for the chiseled variety.

Hlaalu or Redoran architecture would be more suited for sandstone, rather than Vivec's Indoril style, since the former are basically sandstone

Hlaalu would be great indeed. That last image is actually the insides of a large dead crab ^^
I have morrowind, so I might be able to send some screens. You could also look at the houses in Raven Rock in Solstheim (DB)

I have it as well.
I'm sure as this goes along, Telvanni, Imperial, Daedric and (of course) Dwemer will be build able will the pack.
Dunno about Solstheim, there would need to be some CTMing for the Barrows
Vvardenfell's architectural styles are wonderful
~Edit~
My only real critique (other than the Dirt one Mini said) is the Birch log.
The line you got just above the middle of the texture is out of place. It
creates this odd visual headache.

You've both been linked. Have fun testing.
I will submit ALL the feedback.
Also, is this 1.5 ready?
It is indeed.
Thanks!
Btw, since this conversation has been going on, how about using iron (from skyrim) as STONE tools?

I've clocked 200+ hours of Skyrim on my Laptop, so I know the game well
