Current version of Werian: 0.6.2
V.1 will be 80-100% of all the textures in the blocks folder. I have finished some tools and mobs, but I will not release nor display them until I have finished the blocks .
This is another pack based on john smith, but all textures are made from scratch and I have no intentions of leting this pack get branded as another john smith continuation pack. Saying that it's only based on john smith would be a lie since I am making a blend between SMPs Revival and John smith while at the same time trying to keep my integrity.
Some people on this part of the forum love to post "a good artist copies, a great artist steals". In this sense, I'd say I'm still copying, but by the end of this pack I'm hoping to have "stolen" some techniques.

Crops and any remaining vegetation - Need ctm, fix double fern
Thanks for the support guys. I should probably get a pack.png up, only problem is that some of the textures don't have a non CTM texture LOL, but I'l see what I can do.
@blue_dragon360 I changed the sentence slightly, even if I did prefer the more controversial statement.
Finished with stone brick textures for now. There will be lots of adjusting later on, they are riddled with flaws, but the general idea is there
I felt like making some sewers with that carved stone brick. It will probably become a meta data and be replaced later on. (see image at the bottom of the page)
And thus I'm on version 0.3.7 yay! Sorry about the night time photos, I didn't even notice when I took the screens. I'l try my best not to take night time photos when it is not intended.
This is why I should not be a texture artist...
Edit:
Btw, is it possible to make meta data for mossy/cracked stairs/slabs?
Started working on desert biome now that stone bricks are done. I did not use my cactus irl for reference since it looks like an oval disc. I got some pointers from ozbillo's cactus since his has a very similar shape (they are both a type of cereus cacti, in fact, a lof ot people do cereus cacti). Here is my take on it
It might be too saturated :/ I should probably turn down the contrast/increase brightness/reduce saturation.
Here is the ref pictures I used to make my cactus.
Here is just the uninterseting sand by itself. I will have to redo it at some point...
Edit: after looking at the cactus for a while, I now see my biggest mistake, I should move the highlights of the two inner blades? (I don't know cacti terminology xD) more towards the centre, maybe 1-2 pixels each, or one by one pixel and the other by two.
I just recently noticed you join in and start posting. Your posts were correct, and now you release this? Could it be... A newcomer, that actually possesses skill?!? And texturing talent?!?
This looks quite a bit like John Smith. However, that is absolutely not a bad thing. I would give anything a LOT for my textures to look like John Smith!
The cactus looks really good in that style as well. Different from the standard type of cactus seen in most packs.
You don't even need metadata! You just need to specify the block IDs. It wraps the texture around it.
How do you mean? I would like to have regular/mossy/cracked stair variants in game at the same time, all with random ctm.
Example:
(the cracked and mossy stairs/slabs are mapped onto jungle/oak planks in the second picture)
I'd like to have them as meta data blocks for people with world edit etc It wouldn't be any extra work for me really, but would provide more options for builders.
This is definitely one of the best higher-resolution packs I've seen in a LONG time. It reminds me both of John Smith with the overall theme, and Glimmar's Steampunk with the color selection and shading. Both are amazing packs, and this one seems destined to join them both.
Spectacular. I'll be watching this with great interest.

When statistics come into play, someone like this must come along some day.
But seriously filmjolk, I don't know if you realize this, but you're a real breath of fresh air around here. Thank you for joining our community!
@corner_g: No skill, I try to cover that up with a lot of time spent on research and looking at reference material. But thanks for the kind words.
@Alvoria: Thanks for putting more pressure on me, Jk xD Nah, I wish I could make textures like Johnsmith or Glimmar. If I'm lucky it might only be 2-3 years, but as for now, I still have a long way to go.
I'm basically doing HD cause I am not good enough to do 16x lol. I try to hide my pixel flaws in a crowd of pixels. Yes it's a horrible way of making textures, however, that's the only way I know
Desert biome finished... for now. Still needs lots of ctm in all of the blocks except deadbush. The cactus still needs to have it's highlights adjusted, just not right now xD
Smooth and carved sandstone need more contrast. This is evident when you have the dark stone bricks next to the sandstone
First attempt at wools, not happy with it at all. I thought of using a pattern or other design, but I want to keep them cleaner so that builders can use them without geting disrupting patterns in their builds. Greens, blues brown and black need immediate attention. A lot of them need more contrast so that the pattern will show more.
EDIT: That cactus is still stealing the show with it's high saturation and contrast... When I get back to desert biome you are going down!
Also planing on making the sandstoen less round and making the bricks fit more tightly together.
I find your wool too un-detailed compared to the rest of the pack, how about you make it look weaved or threaded?
Place holder. I have no clue what to do for wools. There is no block I could care less for. I only ever use wool as metadata blocks for other textures (stucco tudor walls, redwood etc). In my experience, people either comment on wool and say that the texture pattern is horrible or that it's awesome. But when they start buiding with it, the horrible one becomes awesome and the awesome one becomes horrible. Mainly because the pattern sticks out too much and all they really wanted was the color of the wool, not its annoying pattern. I'l most likely make lots of different wool patterns for people to chose from, seeing how it does not take much time to colorise the texture.
Ores. Gold and iron are place holders for now lol. They are terrible but I needed ores. Lapis might be a bit too blue, I jsut don't want people to confuse it with diamond. I also adjusted the gravel. It now looks better as a road but it doesn't really fit that well with dirt so it might not look good when you are mining if you run into dirt/gravel deposits.
I'm not happy with the stone. The plan has always been to change it, I'm just waiting for that inspiration
Edit: gold ore has been adjusted to look more like red gold. It was just too yellow
The stone has some nasty vertical tiling errors in it; I think iron ore looks fine but i would agree that the gold ore need changing. It may just be me but it looks to me that the main crystal of the diamond is cut off in the middle - doesn't look quite right.
grass has a horizontal tiling error too...
(sorry will stop now)
As I said in my post though, that stone is never to be edited xD I will however use it as a palette when I make my new stone. You did make me spend a few hours fixing the grass however, and here is the old tile vs the new one:
Gold was edited, I just changed the hue, I didnt upload a photo though since I couldnt place the old next to it to compare lol. "Edit: gold ore has been adjusted to look more like red gold. It was just too yellow" I'm amazed though that you can't see the problem with the iron It blends in with the stone too well, so you wont be able to see it at all when you are mining or on a distnace. As it is right now, it's basically a stone random ctm tile xD
And meh, it didnt take long to make either of them, so I'l just keep making configurations of iron and gold later, well all of the ores. Then I'l use them as random ctm and pick the best ones for non ctm.
Jungle is done for now... the colors are a mess, but I only care about the texture at the moment. I'l get back to adjusting all the colors when I get in the mood or when it's on top of the to do list. Can't say I'm happy with any of it except the texture for cocoa beans, but not the color. There are 4 or 5 ferns, only one and a half is showing in the picture.
On another note, glass is now turned into ctm. It still needs some tweakin with contrast and colors.
Also, latest grass tile (it still has the same problems in it sigh.........: I can spot a vertical a horizontal and a dark spot.
I'l fix it when I get back, first thing I'l do, grass has to be perfect even without ctm.
Bricks.... I hate you so much...
From the top.
1. gif with my bricks, red version and john smith
2. my bricks
3. the basecoat I sued to make my bricks (there are 4 ctm tiles, I'l make the other 3 later, but if you look closely you can find the tile I used.
4.JS bricks
5. my old bricks
I used the palette from my old bricks on the basecoat and voila! I made some JS bricks... Don't know how to salvage the situation. I might just make my bricks even darker, but then they wont fit in with a lot of the other textures sigh... right now it feels like I cant tell if I'm actually usign my pack or john smith, if I have a lot of bricks around me. I could add more cracks and weather them down, but that was not really what I wanted (besides, JS bricks are more weatherd down than mine, so I'd have to really break them apart. I guess that is my only option.
Or I could change the grout to white instead of dark brown/black. I'd have to make the bricks slightly darker then anyway to balance them out.
I doubt anyone has had that pattern. But there are hundreds of lamps similar to it. It's just a very generic medieval texturepack lamp. Nothing special about it.
I do have vertical ctm though xD
But it's really just a base for me to build on once I have some more textures and can spend time on it. I just don't want to get burnt out by focusing too much on a few textures and end up quiting half way.
EDIT: ooh and it's not a lamp though its glowstone block, I will try and come up with something else for the lamp and then eventualy nether biome specific glowstone as well. (or did you mean the design with stairs around it and fence posts? cause yes I believe that is a common design too, although I didn't build this)
And why did you say the lamp looks familiar when the bricks look exactly like john smith without actually using the same palette or texture.
Bricks with light grout looks kinda weird, I don't hate it, but might need to tweak it a bit to make it work.
EDIT:EDIT: Yeah I really like that second one, even if the contrast between the grout and hte bricks is very low, it does seem to blend with the cobble and other textures much better than the higher contrast and saturation version.

1-yeah, i guess you're right
2-i've never used john smith texture pack
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
I've done nothing but teleport bread for the past three days
Finished most of the 1.6 biomes, the ones left are mushroom (giant mushrooms, red mushroom) and the end (endstone, might revise obsidian if I feel like it).
Here is a picture of the nether with biome specific glowstone. I might make the glowstone lighter, it looks a tad bit like chocolate with peanuts.
Now I'm in version 0.4.5
Here are also some gif time-lapses of the nether blocks. Allready posted them in TAU, but might as well stick them here too incase someone is interested in how I made the textures.
Before I move on to all the redstone related blocks/items, should I include another version of endstone while in non End biome?
I tried building with it, but it doesn't really fit in.with my other stones.
Also the brick ctm while I Was at it.
EDIT: those bricks look horrible imo with the white grout, they just seem a bit.... too realistic... too much like a photo compared to the other textures. I'l probably release it with dark grout keep the white for the server I'm making it for (they wanted white).

Can you really finish a texture?
Wait... Somethings wrong here... You might want to fix that.
I really like the pack! Although that's never really been my style of pack, it has a nice john smith feel to it.

In the Ctm folder you just need to have your random map textures, and link them to the stair data values, using the method random.
