Nah, it's fine. Long stories are more interesting and are more deep in detail, that's why stories about this size are good. Anyways, I came up with mine just by thinking of words and phrases. When I took a look at the pack, this is what I saw- smooth, realistic, and slightly RPG, hints "legenda" or "legend". And you can probably assume how I got the "realismus" part. But anyway, I like the name of this pack- it's very unique, just like the textures. I certainly can't wait until your finished!
Heres the log update I promised. I redid the log top textures, trying to make rings like youd see in a tree with the same colors as are in my planks. I also have pumpkins and melons finished, and a revised bookshelf texture.
I want to change the thread post to make it better organized but im still not sure how to do the spoiler things and stuff like others do. Could someone please tell me how to do this or direct me to a tutorial?
How to make a spoiler-
-Go to "Special BBcode", next to the eraser.
-Scroll down to spoiler
-Insert your contents (I wouldn't worry about the option tab)
-Click ok
Done!
And if your making a banner, or signature, your gonna have to do something like this-
[url="your link here. Include quotations."] [your image code here][/url]
And to make that box, just do the same thing but scroll down to "Code". That's pretty much all you have to know.
I've started working on hardened clay because I use it alot in my builds and seeing the default hardened clay was starting to really annoy me.
I have hardened clay, brown stained clay, and red stained clay(in that order)
Meh. I don't much like them. There's a really distinct pattern to them. I get what you were going for... but I don't feel that it works. If you want to make it work, disperse some of the dark color throughout the tile so that you don't see the rings as much.
Also... the name sounds like either a crappy metal band or a book about a masonic vampire cult. Either way, I'm not much of a fan of that either.
I really do keep meaning to help with this name thing... Hmmm...
Petrean Kin sounds find if you think its better. I got no taste in names lol, luckily I can make pixel art better than I name things. The hardened clay textures didnt come out quite how I wanted them either, thats just the best ive been able to make then so far. I've been trying to make a texture that looks kind of like plaster or adobe, but I cant find any tutorials on how to make something like that in pixel art, and I cant find anyone who's made that kind of texture for their pack that I can learn from. I guess im on my own with this one lol.

Yea, I think Petrean Kin is better. It rolls of the tongue a lot smoother. Plus, it's less strait-forward and makes people think a bit more about it's meaning due to the use of the rare word. People like that stuff in names because it makes them more memorable.

I guess so.
I always tell people to seek out a real-life example of what they're trying to texture if possible. To actually feel and touch it. I've found that that helps me more often than just looking at pictures.
Well I am now freaking out because of all the new things to texture in 1.7. Mojang seems to be making blocks faster than I can keep up with. Fortunately I've been hard at work this weekend to create an update so I dont fall behind in my texturing. I have created gravel, red sand, podzol, some ores, I modified the stone and grass very slightly, and I finished both the acacia logs and planks. I hope this keeps to my current standard of work, but some of it was a bit rushed. Changes will probably be made to many of the new textures. Heres the screenshots.
Looks very good so far. Especially I like that side grass on the last picture, it fits very well together with the acacia into the savanna themed look
Is that the gravel on the third picture?
Yes, that is gravel. I was trying to make it look like a bunch of slightly different colored pebbles embedded in dirt. Thanks, I haven't even had time to change to the 1.7 biome coloring system yet. My color choices just happen to work really well with the savannah biome.
Well, I havnt been texturing as much lately, been too busy. I have managed to make a small update over the weekend however. I decided to make some wool textures instead of the leaf textures I had initially planned to make. I tried to make it look like it had a kind of woven pattern. I added little bits of different colors in each color of wool so that it would have some color variation, and not look to boring. I'm pretty happy how it came out, I think each wool color is distinct and recognizable, as well as busy and colorful. Heres the screenshot.

Busy and colorful indeed, though I don't really feel that's a good thing in the extreme you've done it in.
The problem is that you've insisted on using the same colors for all of them instead of a complimentary color. For some, your color choices look good because the colors naturally lend themselves to one-another. Your orange is the best example of this, and the only one I'd be happy if you left unaltered... though even here you should probably drop the green a bit.
Your black and... white? gray? The bottom-center one; don't look very good because the color completely overrides the monochromatic nature of the block. Then there's the green, which has the unpleasant distinction of having the blue bits pop more than the green bits which makes it difficult to label on sight.
I see what you were going for, and when it works it works, but you need to choose more sympathetic colors in order to make it work for your blocks.
Coolness. Once your done, I'm so using this pack! I've also been too busy- I haven't worked on my pack in forever. I might change the stone of mine though, it just needs more of a stone texture to it. Well anyway, the focus is on your texture pack, not mine. The textures look great so far- so far I have no grievances! Keep up the good work! (ldk why.)
After having abandoned petrean kin for a while I have been working on starting over from scratch. I felt my texturing skills had improved and I wanted to have another go at making this a really good pack. I am now using 24x24 resolution and im making textures with a combination of brushes and pixel art. Heres my progress so far.

Edit: How about "Petrean" or "Petrean Kin"?
I love using rare words.
I guess so.

Best wishes on getting it right.

Thanks for the encouragement, I think next update will be the textures for the different leaves.

I've been trying to make a download link so people can finally try out my pack. I hope this worked, but tell me if it didn't so I can fix it.
