My first texture pack, designed around simplicity and easy graphics. It is a work in progress and I will be updating it slowly over the next few weeks.
Note: The Bucket-filled blocks are NOT the final product. I am aware this looks similar to the oCd pack (or so I've been told.) I've never seen nor used that pack, so any similarities are coincidental. If you do not have anything CONSTRUCTIVE to day, please DO NOT post anything at all. "Bucket-filled sucks","You're doing it wrong","add detail","add shading","its the oCd pack" is NOT constructive.
Update: Added some small details. Still figuring out how I want to develop the pack. -1/9/14
Updated some blocks (Second screenshot), animated furnace_front_on.png, Updated Diamond weapons and tools. - 1/13/14Screenshot:Please note: Not all completed blocks are shown here. This is just a sizable sample.
I'm still not 100% happy with Iron Block (left of bricks), and it looks bad on an anvil. Grass has also been minutely updated. I might change the pick and shovel, they are a bit over-sized. Far left is Bedrock. Furnace side and top textures are going to be changed, not shown here but I don't like how they look.
It's a very flat and bucket filled and hard to see what some blocks are because they are just blank colour. You should add some shading and draw your own shapes instead of tracing default. Using more interesting colours would help as well, you could find a nice palette to use instead of the default colours.
Drawing my own shapes would defeat the simplistic nature of my pack. As for the colors I use the colors already found in the default textures, to keep some level of familiarity. While here it looks confusing, it is not when used in the world and there is context around it.
No more bucket-fill packs. We have millions of these (The sad part is I am only exaggerating a little) types of packs on here. If this is a first texture pack you are using to learn, then that is perfectly fine and I hope you refine your skills, but please do not post it on the forums, we do not need more of these.

The problem with the truth, is that it never lies.

This is my first pack, and I am learning still. However I am free to post this on the forums. If you dislike the packs so much avoid them and move on.
Simple is ugly. It makes creations look ugly. It makes Minecraft look ugly. If you want good simplism, look at dandelion. Its an amazing pack. Simplism is not bucket fill. Thats called no-effort. Simple packs are not well received on this forum. And for good reason. Put effort into your packs and then release them. Put detail such as shading into your textures!
Again, this is my first pack and I am learning, and it is clearly marked Work In Progress. There is no rule stating "You may not post if you're not good / pack incomplete."
I've started adding some texture and shading into some blocks, others I feel are fine "bucket filled" for a reason. (Namely Wool/colored glass. I want to keep these plain for pixel art purposes.)

That is true: you are free to post your textures here. However, you should listen to what your critiques have to say, even if it's your first pack. It'll help you learn.
Now about your textures themselves. They lack shading. When light hits objects, it creates a highlight where it hit, and shadows where it cannot reach. Look at some objects at home, and see how light interacts with them.

While I understand and appreciate critique, this not what I have received here. Nearly all responses are to the tune of "Not this crap again, please stop." To which I say, to all, if you do not like the pack, move on and leave. If you have nothing better to do than berate a first-timer in his learning, get lost.
As for shading, find a perfectly cubed block of anything you like. Set it in a well lit room. Tell me what shading you see. That is the world Minecraft lives in, one of perfect cubes. You may see flaws and imperfections, but you will not see shading. In this pack I am pursuing those cubes, not trying to hide them away and imagine I am in a non-voxel world.
I am adding details where I can, but I will not add shading to an object that does not merit shading. Any shading you do see is part of the lighting engine, as it should be. I will add shading where I see fit, on non-voxel items.

The blocks in Minecraft do not represent literal cubes. They represent different materials, manifested in cubic form. These materials have different feel and look to them, and thus, should be shaded as such. In addition, there is shading to perfect cubes. Where the light hits, the area is lighter; where it doesn't, the area is darker.
Well as a fair critique, I'd like to see you work on the Ores some. I want to see more than two colours. Just some simple shadows beneath the chunks of ore.
The fact that this is "your first pack" and that you're "still learning" is absolutely no excuse to ignore any sort of shading or depth in your textures, nor is the fact that Minecraft is made of cubes. The entire point of textures is to make the cubes more than cubes, to turn them into something that has a look and feel rather than just being made up of coloured squares.

And this shading is taken care of by the lighting engine, as I have already said. Regardless of what they represent, cubes is what they are. I am making a pack around that.

There is a slight difference in the ores, but it's faint. I'll try to make that more pronounced.

The point of packs is to make the world look as I want it to look. I am posting it here so others may use it if they wish to. Do not force your own expectations upon me.
It saddens me that I have had to say it once, and more so that I have to repeat it, but I will say it again:
If you do not like the pack, and have nothing constructive to say, get lost. I have no patience for being berated and put down like this. I am making a pack to my liking. There is no benefit to you or I in taking your time to post responses to no constructive effect.

They are cubes, but because they represent different things, they should look and feel like the thing they represent.
And the lighting takes care of shadow between blocks, not within blocks.

How is he forcing his own expectations onto you? He's giving you a suggestion. He's giving it to you in a fair way. Why are you being so hostile?

On the surface of a perfectly cubed object, there is *no* shading on the same side.
He is not giving me suggestions, he is attempting to tell me how I should develop my pack, by telling me what it should be.
And I am being defensive, because from the outset of posting this pack, I have received only 2 of 13 responses as being in any way positive. Very little has been said to me outside "you're doing it wrong."

My bad; I thought that was Diamonair's post.
Even so, most people are trying to steer you in the right direction here. No one is trying to personally attack you.
However, there are things that can make your pack better, such as using a better color palette. Right now, it's default colors. Many people use texture packs to try making their minecraft look different, and it's hard to do that with default. Also, you could try making it more stylized. It looks quite like Minecraft with all the depth taken out.

Well, if you simply wish to make the world how you want it to look, then that's perfectly fine. However, while I understand that texture packs are generally not community-oriented projects and that creators such as you and I mostly style textures to their own personal tastes, you must understand that bucket-filled textures with little effort put into them are usually not taken well here.
I understand them not being taken well, but that does not warrant being berated and being told off for doing it.
As for the colors and bucket-filled style, it is marked work in progress, I plan to update and add details when I can. The plain box-style is not the end result I promise. However I am not a graphic designer of any great skill, and plan on keeping those details simple, to make it easier on myself. I plan on leaving the bucket style to the colored wool and glass only. I want to use these for pixel art, and keep them appearing like true pixels, not blocks that happen to be the right color.
Notice how almost everyone who has offered critique has more than a thousand posts. I have over seven hundred. If you want your pack to be liked, add shading. I know its a work in progress but there are lots of tutorials, bucket filling is not going to make an attractive pack. Start off slowly, find a palette and follow a tutorial. Include lots of shading and try to make it look at least viably realistic. (I don't mean photo realistic). Then, when you've spent a long time and are really happy with a texture, go and post on a criticism thread and get critique. Don't post a thread here unless your texture pack is almost complete. Post in discussion. Only when you're really happy with everything should you post a thread.
Also, make sure to blend all the colors in to add shading. You should have a lot more than 2 colours per block.
Post Count doesn't even influence Moderator acceptance. It doesn't matter. I agree with the above post. He has critique to work with, let him and wait for updates soon. No need to post here now, unless you plan on going to a Mod to get this moved.
