I've worked on a lot. I'm trying to make it seem semi-realistic, and I think it looks pretty good so far. I changed most of the textures, especially on the wood. And I've also worked on the gui. It's still a work in progress, and I might change it soon. Please ignore this! It is old!
I thought there was too much noise too, but add noise by hand? I didn't know anyone did that, but I've always wanted to know how. Teach me your ways!
My method for adding noise by hand usually involves a lot of random scribbling with the dodge/burn tool. Mess with the opacity, and try different strokes. the idea is to paint out the general shape of the object, while adding in a little subtle roughness.
Or something like that. I'm sure there's other ways, but that's how I do it. This kind of style is best used in higher resolutions. 16x just plain doesn't have enough room.
EDIT: And smudging! Don't forget the smudging. If you stuff gets too noisy, a few passes with the smudge or blur tool will bring the contrast back down to an acceptable level.
I'd love to make a video someday showing how I do this sort of stuff, since my style looks so different from everyone else's.
Nice! I just checked back to see your progress. That stone is awesome! Huge improvement over the last flatter stone texture. One thing I notice is that the smaller stone in the center is gonna track very well. Other than that the only thing I can suggest to change is that it's a bit too monochromatic for my taste. That could just be me though, I'm not exactly conservative with my color usage.
Thanks. Yeah, I got the new diamond ore texture from looking at the John Smith texture pack.. The diamond was kinda transparent but with a bluish color, thus the new ore I made. But as for the other ores, I just built them on my own, including the stone. This time I compared my textures to the furnace- nice and smooth with a little bit of realism.
Its a pretty good texturepack overall. I myself dont know a thing about making texturepacks so i have no advice to give you other than that the netherrack does seem a little off. I think it should be like the cobble of the nether (just my opinion), so maybe bigger chunks of red... stuff? Anyway, keep up the good work.
