I started working on this over a year ago, however, due to my terrible concentration levels, and the various Minecraft updates and changes, it's taken me this long to release a version I am happy with. And now it is finally (almost) finished!
- Added shading to the corner of the planks - Textured the Brewing Stand (As item) - Repeater and Comparator as item
- Flower pot
- All the minecarts as item. Apart from hopper cart because I still haven't made the hopper look half decent yet
v1.0.2
- Completely re-textured all the logs and leaves - I might have edited the ingots? - Other stuff that I can't remember
v1.0.1:
- Fully released!!!! - Edited ingots - Changed iron block - Other stuff
To Do List:
In priority order:
- Refine and improve all blocks
- Finish items
- Mobs
- Armour - MC Logo! (Needs desperate help - the one at the moment is temporary)
- Finalise custom font
- Particle effects
- Connected Textures?
- Make this forum post look a bit more fancy!
How to Install:
I'm hoping that you already know how to install texture packs, but if you don't, then here's how:
1) Download the version you want, and then find it on your computer (If you don't choose anywhere then it'll be in your downloads).
2) Copy the zip file and start up Minecraft. Alternately you could find your %appdata% but it's not necessary.
3) When Minecraft is loaded up click on options and then on texture packs. At the bottom click on the open texture pack folder button.
4) Paste the texture pack zip into the folder, and then back on Minecraft there is an option to select Blocks Texture Pack!
Try looking at some other simple packs. Try to see what they've got going. Make sure they are popular, and not bucket-fill! Check out 'Dandelion' by SteelFeathers. Love dat.
Ok so I see what you mean. A lot of it is very bucket-fill, and most of that is down to me not knowing much about texturing when I first started. I've grown so used to using it (I hardly use anything else at the moment, which I should really stop) that posting it on here really woke me up.
I'm not sure really where to go from here, do I carry on working on this, or do I work on other (non simple texture) projects?
Oh and I checked out dandelion and it rocks so I might take some inspiration from that.
Alright everyone so I will keep working on it and address the points made.
I'd quite like to hear your ideas for how I can actually make the textures better, rather than just saying you don't like it. I can understand the leaves and logs though so I will start work on that.
In order to combat the tiling issue, would you happen to be able to integrate CTM into the pack, granted you have the knowledge?
Also, no offence, but the bark does look like a lazy fill job, but that's mainly because you left the old bark patterns. I'm no texture maker myself, but perhaps redrawing the bark patterns yourself would break the illusion of the pack just being the default with a more limited colour palette.
I do roughly know how to add CTM into it, but I'm not sure how that would help... I will look into it though.
And yes the bark is just a straight copy of vanilla, so none taken. I'll see what I can do to try and include it in the whole theme of the pack (which is the blocks, hence the name).
Please excuse my error. I was thinking of a certain MCPatcher reliant feature that is often associated with CTM. The name slips my mind. It is a feature that randomly rotates manually defined textures when displayed in-game and is often used for grass textures.
Oh yes I know what you mean. I think there might be a feature like that in Optifine. I might be an option called natural textures? I have no idea how to do it though! I'll do some googling.
I find it to be an improvement. I noticed that while some praised the dirt, they criticised the leaves, and I think I found one factor that played into that: The squares on your dirt texture, they have that half-outline of shading, which was absent in the leaves, even though they followed a similar, solid-colour, square-y design. Having that added to the leaves brings it closer to the dirt, which, as I said, gets better reception.
The shaded edge is in almost all the blocks with the squares, so I'm not sure how I missed out the leaves
I tried making a pack with this whole block theme once. It was more difficult than I thought xD
I like where this is going though, keep up the nice work. Try to keep the whole blocky theme here, it's what makes this pack unique.
Also, I recommend shading EVERYTHING. Get at least three or four colors on every block! I've found that adding depth to these blocky textures can make the difference between another 'simplepack' and something else, something better. Oh, I'd also love to see you try adding some CTM. That could negate the whole 'repetitive tessellation' thing.
Constructive criticism and advice needed!

Maybe you should look at that one for inspiration.

Thanks, next up birch wood!
Also, what do you all think of the leaves in that pic?

Blimey Man...
LOOOOL and thats what we call hyped.
What do you think?
Lacks a little shading and depth, stands out hard against everything else, tweak it a little and see what you get ^^
