So recently I have been trying to change the color of the cod spawn egg to be light blue, this is because I changed the texture of the cod to resemble the old Minecraft blue fish you used to catch from fishing. At first I had difficulty implementing the blue spawn egg in to my pack, but after looking at other people's packs and seeing how there's worked I eventually was able to add in my image for the cod spawn egg. However when I added it in, the image was covered with a sort of brown hue. I figured it must have been something wrong with my png file, but after a bit of testing I realized that the game was turning the spawn egg brown on it's own. I'm guessing the reason why it's brown is because the original texture for a cod is brown. Just for proof that this is happening, I took a pure white 16x16 image and replaced it for my egg, and instead of a pure white square in my game, it was a brown square. I've been trying to find an answer to this problem but at the moment I can't find anyone that's having the same issue. If anyone could point me in the right direction on how to fix this that would be great.
Thank you very much for the reply! I tested adding more layers to the item model until I had made 9 different layers all with the same image. Sadly this did not get rid of the brown effect. Am I doing something wrong? Here is what my item model looks like in my resource pack.
I tried adding layers individually to the item model file and nothing was changing until I tried layer4. For some reason if I use layer 4 and up in the item model file, my blue egg texture doesn't appear at all and instead is replaced with what I believe to be the default cod spawn egg. Another interesting thing I found is that when I look around with the spawn egg in my hand, and it's layer 3 and under, there appears to be some brown lines that are fading in and out of the side of my egg. I have attached a screenshot of what I am referring to below. I am almost positive that the reason why my egg has the brown tint is because the original file for the cod spawn egg is still being used, only it is being used at the same time as my blue cod spawn egg. This would explain why any layer 4 and up is just the brown cod egg, because the file does not have more than 4 layers. It also explains why there seems to be two textures put together for layer 3 and under. I am very confused at the moment, because I don't think I've ever seen someone have a problem like this before with their spawn eggs. One last thing to note, I updated the textures for the cod mob and spawn egg to be a more dark color. That way, even though there is some brown in the spawn egg, it's a bit easier to look at. However, I would still much rather have the brown gone completely, so any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Thank you for the response! I wish I could say that it worked but when I replaced layers 0 and 1 with 2 and 3 nothing changed. The egg still has the brown hue and the texture is still glitching out on the sides. If anyone has any other ideas that would be fantastic!
Thank you so much for the suggestion! I tried getting rid of layer 3 entirely and instead only using layer 2 on it's own. When I did this the egg reverted back to its original brown look. So instead I tried getting rid of layer 2 and keeping layer 3. This brought my egg back to having the blue with brown hue look. It also did not get rid of the glitchy lines on the side. I guess it's back to the drawing board...

In the item model file, change the layer0 and layer1 to layer2 or layer3.
This is happening because the game tints these 2 layers by default on items that use the tint feature.

This is an update post...

0 and 1 become 2 and 3 means that you remove 0 and 1 and replace them with 2 and 3.
I have never gone beyond the 3rd layer and I don't think any item is able to use more than 4 layers.

Wait, both of your textures point to the same texture, how about using only 1 of them?
