I'm doing a build that requires me to re-texture redstone dust (placed), after have a difficult time getting the texture to work, I discovered that it's still red(ish). I need it to be the the colour I made the texture - dark grey. How do I do this?
If it's not for 1.13+, then the "optifine" folder has to be another name, that I forgot the name of.
"mcpatcher" for 1.12 and below.
Also, texture colors and colormap colors are blended with "multiply"-method. So if you want that redstone to look exactly like your texture you need to make your colormap all 100% white.

Just curious, that's all.
You need to have optifine for the redstone colour to be customizable.
Make an "optifine" folder in the assets folder, there make a "colormap" folder.
In the colormap folder, create a redstone.png picture, that is 16 pixels width and 1 pixel high.
From left to right, each pixel is one colour state for each power of the redstone, far left being off, far right being next to a redstone torch.

Would I just make the colourmap all white, all black, all transparent, or the grey colour I want the dust to be?
Just curious, that's all.
I don't know about alpha colours, but any colour is possible.
