Here, I just added the custom model data to the crossbow.json.
The "customitems/(number)" is just my pathway to the textures. I think I've got 3 maybe 4 crossbows in this.
I feel like these two lines are what's giving me the problem, but the json is valid and I don't see what could be wrong with it. I have tried everything and still the regular custom texture just refuses to appear. Any ideas on how to fix this?
Nevermind I fixed this. Seems that reformating this did the trick.
Could you show how you managed to reformat it? I am having the same issue, and it appears as a bugged texture cube.
Thanks,

Turns out all you have to do, is make sure that the only override with no predicate related to crossbow (pulling, charged, arrow, etc). Here is my example:
I need some help with creating custom crossbow models using Custom Model Data.
Tried putting the data in the models for the pulling animations, no luck.
I think that CustomModelData needs a number between 1000001 and 1999999 so that might be why it is not working, the numbers you chose are too shorts.
CustomModelData also works with 1 to 1000000, the number is not too short.
The predicates can be in the root file, but can't be in the linked models, I believe.

No worries I already fixed this
can you please tell me how? I'm having the same issue ':D
I believe, he has defined every pull state with the CustomModelData and removed the default overrides.

Could you be more specific? I'm having the same issue and it's a real struggle 😅

I followed all the steps like you did, but however my base, non-pulled back texture does't appear at all.

On the first set of overrides, only include the custom model for the "standby" crossbow
