...I'm not really sure what I'm doing wrong. I'm using Minecraft release 1.8, and I'm trying to replace the vanilla music with my own music, for personal use, however after trying a few times, and swapping things around, I either have the default music still playing, or no music at all.
The sound files ARE .Ogg files, and they do work, as I can open up said music files with a music player and play them fine..
Any assistance on what I might be doing wrong? I'm almost 100% sure those are the correct file names, and at least 90% sure that I'm using the correct path to where the music files go, as I've done this before with sound effects, and it's worked, and I've downloaded a resource pack that edits sounds, which uses the same path, and that works, though it did not exactly replace any music itself.
Can the vanilla music simply not be modified by any means without modifying the game via mods?
Here's the path I'm currently using, sorry for uploading via forums' attachments, but Imgur decided to take a break on me. (Also Ignore the traffic cones, it's the icon of the music player that lets me play them, those are the ogg music files I'm trying to get working), it should be the correct path, unless I'm mistaken:
Yes, I am aware of the command /playsound, however I want my custom music to play randomly, kinda like how the default themes such as the Nether and overworld themes play. I want to literally just replace the vanilla music with my own, not have my music only playable via commands.
I guess not many people have figured this out or something, oh well. No biggie, I can always just mute the Minecraft music, and play it in the background. Though I'm still open for answers.......
Either way, I've done that, they're .ogg files, the file names are exactly the same, and the path seems to be correct (See attachment)
That's why I'm kinda confuzzled and asking this question. I don't know what I'm doing wrong...
It is not possible to change the vanilla files directly, you must create a " sound pack" like an addon and put only your renamed music ( with the original vanilla file names) in there, then it will override vanillas musicfiles....

Essentially a resource pack replacing the sounds, right? I did that (See attachment, those are my files renamed to the default names, not the actual original files). I'm sure I'm doing the formatting right, and the files have been renamed exactly to what the original files are named.

That's kinda what I meant by "plays randomly"

Oof. My resource pack contains copyrighted music, meaning the forums wouldn't quite agree with that. So I don't think I could really do that.
