It's illegal to put the default textures up for download, so you'll have to get them yourself. It's really not difficult.
You can extract textures from the default <version>.jar. Jar files are just zip files with runnable code inside, so all you have to do is open the jar with an archiving program like 7-zip, and drag out pack.mcmeta and the assets folder.
Well... technically you can, but Mojang intentionally obfuscated them to prevent people from putting them up for download.
More to the point, you don't really need them. There's a List on the Wiki of all of the Minecraft assets that can be changed with a Resource Pack. Just examine that and mimic the folder structure and file names as you would for any other file in a resource pack.
Has anyone got the default pack files for MC 1.7.2?
I couldn't find one online, and I don't like picking apart the Java files.
I had one from 1.6.4 that I found online, but I guess 1.7.2 is too new.
If you've got one, can you share a download link for everyone else? Thanks!
