So I'm rather confused. I am currently playing on a server I'm hosting on another machine I have, and I have a customized version of the John Smith texture pack. I'm trying to add textures for some of the extra blocks in the mod I am working with (biomes o' plenty, to be precise), but they don't seem to be working. From what I have gathered, all I need to do is create a folder for my custom resource pack under the resource pack folder, then add the necessary textures there. Is that correct? If so, is there any reason that updating a texture in my texture pack folder would not take precedence over the texture contained in the mod?
Right, since I didn't see any response, but I have figured it out on my own, I'll post a response to myself so that someone else searching for this information might be able to find it...
When updating your resourcepack, go take a look at the mod you are going to use. In it, there should be an assets folder. You need to replicate the entire tree inside the mod related to the assets folder in your texture pack. This means that if the mod has a tree that looks like /modname/assets/textures blocks/, then you need to create a /modname/assets/textures/blocks folder in your texture pack.

I hope this helps someone else.
