Others may have already done this but I could not find it. I will have to convert many clocks and compasses for my resource packs, so I decided to make a script to ease my pain. I hope you find this as useful as I have and will.
Install: Place the script file (MC19_Split.scm) in the Script-fu Preferences -> Folders -> Scripts location.
Use: Edit the MC 1.8 compass or clock. Once installed properly there will be a menu item for MC_Tools and under it MC19_Split will appear. Click it. A dialog will open to specify the number of frames that will default to 32, and the path where the output files should go. It is that easy.
I am not a script-fu expert so I may have made mistakes. I have tested this as much as I can before I have released it. If you find a problem please let me know so I can fix it.
(just run through python-fu with only a clock open or only a compass open)
Surprised you didn't see it (especially if you searched) I posted it on the TAU, Alvoria's texture animation tutorial thread, as well as a few random threads. If you did search, sorry you didn't find it :/
EDIT: I also posted it on the all-inclusive guide to texturing, but it is currently a page back. Not sure if it was added to the main post of it.
EDIT2: Some changes. Also, my converter does everything automatically... including finding the number of required frames, creating models+predicates w/timing (does yours do this?), even so far as creating an mcmeta file so the outputted files are an actual functional pack if you move the folder over.

It’s the unpleasantness of the system that keeps me out.
I’d rather be in, in a good system. That’s where my discontent comes from:
being forced to choose to stay outside.
My advice: Just keep movin’ straight ahead.
Every now and then you find yourself in a different place."

I am not certain how to take your post. I feel slapped! I apologise for not getting the search criterial correct, nor making the script entirely automatic. I thought this was a friendly forum?

Not sure if that last part is a joke... if not, I don't intend for my post to sound mean, it's really half sadness that you (might have) needed to do the work only because you didn't find my posts and the other half was me just discussing.
Interesting that you used script-fu, from my searches python-fu seemed like the overall better choice. Easier to use and more flexible is what it seems like to me. Y'know, python and all. Hopefully it was as easy for you as it was for me.

insomniac does that file go in the plugins or scripts folder in gimp?
Neither:
have only 1 file open (clock or compass)
copy the entirety of the text to your clipboard
go to filters>python-fu>console and paste+hit enter
close the image you used and open the one you haven't done yet to repeat the steps
use the output of the console (green prints) to find the location the files were exported to
copy this folder over, zip the CONTENTS of it, or merge it with an existing resource pack
???
Success
It could be a script/plugin but I haven't packaged it as such. I figured it was a 1-time thing for most so this was easier and good enough.

Hello, I know this post is very old at this point but I keep getting an error message every time I try to run the script. I'm not sure what the problem is as I know almost nothing about coding. I've attached an image of the error that pops up.
Here is the Error Message in words as well:
MC 1.9 Slice Message
Error while executing script-fu-MC19-slice:

Yeah, I did this a while ago, too:

How exactly do I use this? What directory do I put the file?
