@Samohtj, I agree,B looks better because the single pixels of green don't blend into the shading as much as in A.
@Minihilly, The first grass top looks great!! The rest of your textures are good too but they might not be simple enough, It could be the breaks in the highlights making them look more detailed than they are.
@Alvoria, Good start. All I can suggest is to add some bigger shapes into the three blocks at the bottom, like what you've done with the stone.
Loving the new style, the whole chunky look is really neat. I actually don't think I've seen a pack with a style like that before.
The crafting table (bottom right?) looks a bit chaotic and messy though, just has a bit too much going on it makes it hard to tell exactly what it's supposed to be.
Okay, got some more stuff done. For a start, here's a palette. It's 32 colours, haven't really tested it with tiles but I've been using it for other random pixel art.
Updated a few of my more detailed tiles on my pack too:
Here are some in-game pics:
Oh, I've disabled biome colouring with models so the colours are all going to be exactly as they are in the palette.
Just made my first texture! Attached you will find my dirt texture! Do I have to follow a palette? I just want to do this more of as a learning experiment, but I will be fine with using a palette.

Yup. You have to choose a palette from the first post, and use only those colours in all of your textures. You also have to contribute a palette, and you can't use your own.
Ohhh... you're just trying to get me in the competition with this, aren't you? I just might have to try something here...
I wanted to create a solid themed palette simply because most of the ones available for this contest are so generic. I created this palette not for any one person, but because it's the kind of palette I wanted to be working with: one that gives a hint of creative direction without forcing that direction. This is also why I used Mini's palette. Despite its flaws, it has a distinct tone to it that gave me ideas.
If it speaks to you and tells you to make something with it, I will be extremely happy.

I didn't mean that literally. I guess the tone didn't carry across... What I meant was basically what you said just now about creative direction.

Speaking of which, I made a quick stone (tiled 3x3):
I tried shadows as well, but they didn't turn out as good because of the shade difference.
edit: Just remembered--here's my terrible palette submission from last time. I guess if someone loves saturated eye-popping colors...?

I kinda figured that's what you meant. I didn't seriously consider that you somehow thought that I had you personally in mind when I made that. The reasons for that are numerous not the least of which being we don't know each other that well.
No, that whole long thing was essentially written just to give my reasoning to either confirm what you really meant or at least clarify it to anyone who took that exchange seriously.
Basically what neoix said, it should be a bit more RED rather than brown. It will make for a very brown nether currently (which I guess could actually be an okay if you don't mind that).

Honestly, it doesn't look brown to me. I think it's because of my screen's color balance. Oh well.
I liked the old grass better
Also cool (cobweb?)
I would love to give this a try! In the attachments is a pack logo I just made for my pack that I will make for this competition!
This will be my first pack so I hope you can tolerate my bad texturing skills! Maybe I could also learn a few things on the way.
Looking forward to creating my pack, but I am 13, so I can't work on it too much with final exams approaching!

Got it.
How do I make a palette?
Is there a tool or a website?

No. Just choose some colors and arrange them in any way you like

Putting the CENDENT back in transcendent!

Here's a palette! Never really made one before, so it might be a bit lacking.
Just to confirm: are HD (say, 128x) textures OK for this comp?
I kinda figured that's what you meant. I didn't seriously consider that you somehow thought that I had you personally in mind when I made that. The reasons for that are numerous not the least of which being we don't know each other that well.
No, that whole long thing was essentially written just to give my reasoning to either confirm what you really meant or at least clarify it to anyone who took that exchange seriously.
The main problem is the obvious vertical line that stands out in the texture.
I'm reasonably sure this is answered by Rule #4: "Any resolution allowed, but simple style only." (Emphasis mine)
Progress! (May post in-game screenshots later; kinda feeling lazy right now.)
Where are the reds?!?!
That's going to be a super duper hard palette to use without them.
The red is right below the yellow ramp...
IDK, do I need some more reds?
Basically what neoix said, it should be a bit more RED rather than brown. It will make for a very brown nether currently (which I guess could actually be an okay if you don't mind that).
It's a very desaturated palette (sorta inspired by Don't Starve), so I think it fits well enough.
