Are the bricks/cobble at least passable as simple? Maybe if I make some adjustments..
Not really.
It's hard to put a definition on "simple" since that's kind of subjective. In my mind, "simple" in this context requires large color fields and no details that are only a single pixel except perhaps for lines. That's what I think, but it's really up to the contest organizer whether or not it counts.
Darn! This challenge is difficult! It's hard to make something that looks good without adding any details. I'm about half way done with the stone and ores my my attempt. I'll have something to post in a few hours... I hope.
Here's to another, and hopefully successful, attempt at this challenge! Good luck to everyone and anyone!
Chop chop, make with the texture.
Here is a grass side that I made with Deonyi's palette. I don't know if I will keep it.
Wool, grass, dirt, hardened dirt, gravel, snow. This palette is very contrasty. Are we allowed to change palettes?
That wool totally isn't rotated grass.
Yes, but you will have to start over.
It certainly is very contrasty. In hindsight, it probably wasn't that good for making textures for a 3D game.
I don't know if I've ever seen a grass side style like that in 16x. Looks really good!
Re-did everything with Deonyi's palette. Used the exact same style, though, so stuff looks similar.
Pixel art is not a style and it's not my own palette. But I agree that it's not simple enough.
I'm right there with you. I'm trying to make stone and my brain is like "NOOOOO! Look at all the empty space to add details! You're wasting it!"
These are amazing, but definitely DEFINITELY not simple textures.
Fail dirt... unsure if grass is 'simple' enough.

I may participate, if I can actually make a palette that isn't eye-burning
Not really.

I'm not too worried about that. What's the point of having cliches if you don't occasionally play with them.
Then again, my first attempt at this looked like it was strait out of Bluebird so I guess one does need to be a little bit careful.
Yea, I think it's a little too detailed.
