I'm just going to state one last thing on the matter of this vector texture thing.
Anyone remember in the first Showdown how Plenty_of_fish's Nemo pack was getting high prase and wows when he started adding a tun of CTM to the pack and submitting them all for his entry, as well as posting them during the packs progress that added more hype? People were already declaring votes to him just for the amount of CTM becuase it looked amazing. It still followed the pallet, but people were wowing over it for that added touch.
This post made it clear as to why... Yeah that extra added touch, it went beyond what everyone else had done. The playing field was no longer balanced, you were now competing against once person having a tun of CTM vs everyone else that just did what the challenge asked for.. Lev made a point on it as well.
Finally the CTM was removed from the entry as it gave an unfair advantage, but not before many people already voted for it due to such. Pretty much, everyone would have had to add in their own CTM to make the showdiwn fair. Even before voting started, people were already commenting that he had their vote for the CTM.
Now what do we have here? People following the guides, and one person doing vector works, that adds extra colors at a HD resolution, easy AA with added colors that others would be trying to do by hand using the colors from the pallets given a.k.a it's own flair abve what everyone else is doing.. To make it fair everyone would have to jump in the vector band wagon as well..
So the difference here, Fish has his removed as it gave an advantage over what everyone else was doing (although not removed at first, and he got a high vote boost from it). While here, something like that is being allowed... giving an unfair advantage.
I can predict something like that happening again...
Why cant we all just be on the same level playing ground with equal chance? I'm sorry but thats how humanity is, there's going to be votes for the outstanding stuff, Like Nemos tun of CTM. That extra 'that looks so cool' flair. Right now, a vector pack is going to stand above everyone else doing pixel works.
That's why I'm dropping out, I hate to as I was looking so forward to doing this, having the time to even try. But I'm the type that likes a fare challenge.
Trust me if I was in the first, I would have spoken up against Fish FAR sooner to leave the CTM out of it, not even post iot. It tipped everything into his favor..
So yeah... have fun with the showdown. Perhaps in another two years the 3rd showdown will be more balanced.

I'm going to respond to this huge wall of text with two very simple things. The first one is this quote: "Even in chess, someone gets to go first."
The second is to ponder a simple question: What do you really think is important in a forum contest? To challenge one's self as an artist, to have fun, or just to try to win? Choose a priority and let yourself be motivated by it foremost.
And with that... I'm thinking of leaving. None of the palettes are really speaking to me and I can't seem to wrap my head around the whole "simple" concept. I might make another go at it if I can find the inspiration but I'm likely out. Feel free to keep my palette in the selection bin in case anyone wants it.
Peace and, if this is goodbye, thanks for having me.
While winning does feel good and all, that's not what this is about. It's about everyone even even, equals. No one having a one up over the other. This is a challenge to try and break from the norm, to practis and think and learn things like color usage and working with in limites. But when someone steps in and starts going beyond what was set to be done, it gives them a one up over everyone else. Just like with Fish and his CTM getting all those bonus votes even before voting started. It made him stand out above everyone else... and no that don't feel good, and people protested that as well once it became apparent he was getting votes souly for that extra flair. Yet here it's now alright? I'm sorry but for me thats a bit of a discouragement..
I don't like 'competing' even just for fun when it's clear someone has an clear upper hand.
2. You must use the palette you choose! No combining palettes or adding colors. Once you declare your choice, you're stuck with it. :]
Okay, those of you still arguing about the vector/no-vector thing need to take a serious chill-pill. It's not something worth getting worked up about or stomping off in a rage about.
I'm not raging about it. Just making a valid point. But I really don't see it being fair that one person can be pardoned from the rules while the rest are sticking to it.

If we are ignoring rule two, why do we have pallets to start with?

I'm not being pardoned, I just have a different interpretation of what the rule is about. The way you're thinking about palettes is very pixel-art-oriented. In your mind, every single pixel in my textures must be eyedropper-ed from the palette. For pixel art, at least, that makes sense. But that definition of what a palette is/means only makes sense for pixel art specifically. If I'm doing some other form of art, the meaning of the palette changes.
That rule isn't meant to say that ONLY the colors that are in the palette may be present in the image. It's meant to say that you have to draw only from the colors in your palette, and you can't add totally new and different colors to fit your needs. Someone mentioned earlier about not having as much green in their palette as they would like, but because of that rule, they can't add any more new colors to the palette to fit their needs.
The purpose of the palette is to provide a grand, overall, unifying color scheme for all the artwork, NOT as some sort of technical limitation that the artist must work around.
I'm sure that everyone is tired of this argument by now. Taiine, if you'd like to continue the discussion, I'd be glad to do it over PM. But I don't think we should sully this thread any further.

By that sense we can use whatever colors we would so please as long as we base them off the pallets colors.
Last I checked.. thats not the purpose of using a pallet... not was it for the first showdown. So yeah, just throw out rule 2. It don't matter.
Zooming in on those textures, there's far more colours than those in the palette.
The post that made everyone cry and leave.
Anyways I like what I'm seeing I can't wait to see what everyone comes out with for sure. Esp. turning pumkins into gravestones that's pretty creative hehe.
EDIT: I should leave this challenge, because I think it is way too serious. I'm not sure!
Don't leave, there have been enough people dropping out already.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Roses are red, violets are blue, sugar is sweet, and so are you.
The roses are wilted, the violets are dead, the sugar bowl's empty, and so is your head.

Yeah.. may as well not be in the rules at all...
I'm kind of disappointed that you didn't try to use the hue shifting ramps I set up.

Otherwise: TAKE IT TO A PM. I WILL start reporting anyone who continues to bicker about this.
From left to right, cobblestone, chiseled stone brick, stone slab, coal ore, spruce planks, rose, and dandelion.
I'll be using Sera's palette, will post some stuff tomorrow. Oh, and since the rules allow for it, I'm revamping Willow
I really like the style you have going with these textures!
