Note: I'm waiting until Minecraft 1.8 comes out before I update this guide. There are a lot of changes in 1.8 that will require updating a few sections. So instead of doing many small updates, I will do one BIG update to this guide.
I will also try by best to update all the sections I can. Some will be removed, while others will be changed (some will not even change at all).
I will try my best to update the guide as much as I can after 1.8 is out.
Again if you want to contribute to this Guide, you can by: providing feedback about this Guide, improve a section (by giving more details or explaining things more clearly), finish a section that isn't complete, start a section that I haven't started yet, link me to another Guide that either you or someone else made.
While I am trying to create a Guide to Texturing (Hence the title), I'm not the best artist here (I hardly even consider myself an artist). There are other people out there that are much better than me. If you have something that can be helpful to the Texture/Resource Pack Community & you want to have it here for other people to see, then post a comment about it.
I want this to also be a community guide too. I want people to contribute to this guide so that they can help other people too.
Why...the...360p...video...(Proceeds to lost my mind)...sgykhasdjgcfhkgjfiklgjcbkflgnchmcfhglmcghuisr(Smashes Keyboard).
Ok, jokes aside, it's kinda good. I saw this when you posted it, I just didn't watch it (was too lazy, sorry ._.). Now that I have watched (part of) it, it was good. I can tell your computer either 1) could barely run your Image Editing program while recording, or 2) you are using a drawing pad to draw your textures.
Correction: I'll add it to the Guide when I find a way to make the Guide less than 75,000 characters long (the Guide is longer than 75,000 characters already).

Still good by the way. I'll add it to the Guide.
That's actually the highest resolution my recording software will allow, and I don't have the money to buy anything better. D:
If you are trying to make a Resource Pack for Minecraft 1.6+ then there is no more terrain.png, instead all the texture files are in /assets/minecraft/textures/ folder.
If you are trying to make a Texture Pack for any Minecraft version before 1.5 then look at Steelfeather's old guide.

WebcamMax. I know Fraps can record at the native resolution, but I can't get it to record my art programme.
Have you tried Open Broadcast Software? It's freeware, and despite the name it works quite well for recording... or so I'm told. Haven't had a chance to actually try it out just yet. Still, worth a shot. Let me know if you try it and how it works for you.

I have never heard of this one. I'll play with it a bit and see if it likes me any better than what I've been using.
Going to do (or at least try to do) soon:
1) Add MinecraftForum user, grar, page called "Grar's Guide to Vanilla Shaders".
2) Add MinecraftForum user, loki_of_sassgard, page call "Tiling blocks the easy way".
3) Update some of the sections.
4) Organize the whole Guide.
5) Create new Threads for certain parts of the Guide.
6) Try to make the Guide look better. (New MinecraftForum Site Update/Change made the Guide look bad -.-)
7) POSSIBLY add new sections that expand on the other features of Resource Packs other than Texturing.
8) Make the Guide less than the MinecraftForum's Thread Character Limit. (Currently, a thread can be no longer than 75,000 characters, which the OP has already passed).
Updates on the guide will be applied slowly in the next few days. If there is anything you see that's wrong, or missing critical information, (or you just want to contribute to the guide), post your comments about them.
EDIT(July 17th, 2014): I have added a new section called "Vanilla Shaders" under the "Expanding on the Resource Pack Features" section. I have also included loki_of_sassgard's video on Tiling blocks the easy way that's in the "Tiling" section under the "Making the Textures" section. Next will update the /blocks & /items lists, & will also also update the /models folder description & will also add the /blockstates folder too.
span>For example, if you want to rename Emerald to Ruby, you need to fine the line that has the Emerald item name.
Also, would it be relevant to put something in about varieties of English and how you may wish to translate British English as well as other languages to cater for a more international audience?
I will also try by best to update all the sections I can. Some will be removed, while others will be changed (some will not even change at all).

Read the rest of the actual post. Terrain.png isn't used anymore.

You can just call me Canary.
How not to look like a total fool in the forum games
In /assets/indexes there is a files named to a corresponding Minecraft version. Open the latest one and add the argument
then set the file to read-only. Upon startup, the virtual directory will appear.
Putting the CENDENT back in transcendent!
Does it effect the game in any way?
