TLDR; I would like some thoughts/criticism on some new stuff I've been working on.
My thoughts:
1. Started on the creeper because I found out about the may mob competition. I tried to make it look like the iconic creeper while still adding my own interpretation. The top fuse area needs work and I want to add tnt inside of him, visible through the gaps in his torso.
2. Re-did my cobble texture for the 3rd time. I really like it now. Tried to make it look closer to vanilla.
3. recolored the Oak Planks to the vanilla color
4. Re- did gravel. It looks better than it did and I'm getting there, but I still feels somethings off. It doesn't blend well with the rest of the textures in my opinion.
5. Redid the oak log top and did the rest of the log tops to match.
6. Snow and Glowstone, I like these two.
7. Tried the workbench, its alright but I'm gonna work on it some. Mainly the colors. Also did the front of the furnace just to try something. That's very WIP
8. Oh the stone slab is new too, I think that looks good though, fairly simple one to make.
ACTUALLY
I am going to try this donation system https://ko-fi.com/
Microtransactions are all the rage and free-to-play games thrive on them. So maybe occasionally someone will feel like sending you a $3 tip.
AndI should definitely update on Curse and advertise more often. My pack is clearly more visible via PMC tho, and it's easier to use.
Oh, that's a neat idea. I think I'll definitely add that to my posts and see where it goes. Especially since I'm trying to get into the swing of updating a lot again.
I almost never update my Curse page. I go there, put the new downloads in, and scram. Then I post an update log on PMC and update my thread here, and between them get a few hundred downloads a week. I also was just recently pointed to http://www.votable.com/minecraft which is kind of like Reddit, but kind of not. I don't expect to see too much traffic from there, since it's a few years old now and still pretty slow. I'll probably update a few times, and forget it exists.
I've been given permission to continue Good Morning Craft, so guess what I've been doing all day today?
Prismarine blocks, sea lantern, and purpur. Not pictured: the 20 other blocks I did today. There are still a few more to go to get it updated to 1.9, and then comes the task of updating all the items. I didn't realise how far behind this pack had fallen until taking a look inside it.
This is gonna be a big challenge, to do a pack on 16x, while matching someone else's style. There are a few things I'm definitely going to be changing, now that I'm feeling a little more comfortable with it. But Sassgaard draws a lot of inspiration from this pack, so it's turning out to be not as tricky as I'd expected.
I finally got it managed to make custom models work properly. It's actually harder than I expected... to think about a fitting texture that tiles well with other blocks. But it's fun tho.
Now there is nothing to stop me from texturing all stairs, fences and everything else that might come. >:}
Why they didn't just wholesale adopt the MCPatcher way of doing it, I'll never know. Every now and then, I get people complaining that my stairs don't randomise the way my bricks and cobble do. But each face would require something like 40 extra files, and nope. That's way too many files for a pack that already has problems running on slower machines.

I'm trying to imagine how you would need 40 files per face to apply 10 to 20 random textures, and I can't come close. Whatever you have in mind doesn't seem to be a very efficient method. Also additional .JSON files have a very minimal impact on the game speed in my experience. I don't see why you can't just reuse the existing textures for stairs.

It's early, and I think I misspoke. I think it was 40 for each block, which is still a lot. Because the front, top, back, and sides all used different models (or did when I last tooked at it and noped out), so having the extra textures was going to be way too much work for something most people probably won't even notice.

No, there are three models for a stair of any given material. One for a straight back, one for curving in, and one for curving out. They are rotated a lot-- those 3 models rotated in all the ways get 40 entries in the blockstate file, but they are all referenceing the same 3 models.
For the stairs that i've given alternates, I have 3 variants, so that means there's 9 model files, and 120 "model" entries in the blockstate file. But no additional textures-- which works with my pack, and should work for yours.
There's a bit of tedious copy/pasting and find/replacing, but I use an editor that can find/replace multiple files at once. There's no measurable hit to file-size or FPS.
And I'd note that for most textures types you rapidly hit diminishing returns for additional alternate textures. Three would be a lot better than none, and 10 only somewhat better than 3.

Oh, maybe I will look back into it again. It does sound a bit different than it was before, but it's still something I'm probably going to put off until I've done everything else I want to do.
It looks like you all have carried on in my absence! I have been working on music a lot lately (www.soundcloud.com/drfrozenfire) and dealing with IRL stuff.... but I miss minecraft. I may be getting some free time soon due to me moving, so I thought I'd stop by and check things out. I'm glad to see things still happening here!
I have a lot to learn about the updates that have occurred since I last created a texture pack, so if I decide to take the time (which I may have soon) I may go about bringing back Synthetic Reality texture pack or I may make a new one.
So I should do a wiki type thing, or try to integrate it into the Minecraft Wiki?

I was directed here and just have a quick question as I'm a little bit confused by the op:
Am I allowed to post stuff here for feedback without being a member of the union?
Welcome! I'm the guy that directed you here.
There is no more "union".
Ignore the post at the beginning of the thread. That was a long time ago, and this is more a casual texture artist hang-out.
If you are a minecraft texture artist, you can post here.
Posts with specific questions tend to get more replies.

Oh ok! I just read that whole post XD
Well thanks for pointing me this way, the WIP resourcepack forum is pretty dead. :/
I'll be around
I love lithos btw.

Congradulations, that pack is a big deal!

Some old pixel art pack, worth continuing?
Reminds me of DragonDance
Jingle bells, decay and fails
The adventurers all died of fright.

Those logs look awesome! Are those ores or what is that other texture?
