Extra layers are used for the fur around the shoulders and neck, breastplate, tunic on the legs, boot toe, helmet and one arm for a unique gauntlet type thing.
I've tweaked it even further since that pic and reached the final one, definitely going to keep it as it currently is for now. I also finished up texturing the stuff that you can't see unless you take off certain parts of the skin. So if you take off the 'jacket' layer you get a nice looking tunic with no breastplate, take off the shoulders and you get no fur but gain some nice shiny metal pauldrons, take off the helmet and get a gaping black maw where your face would be, etc. Worked out quite well actually!
Here are two pics without the 'jacket' layer on just before I finished off the shading on the tunic underneath.

It looks great, you've got me in the mood for making skins now.
I have an utterly random question, and maybe it's already been touched upon, but why is it that particles alone support anti-aliasing round the edges?
It's not about the anti-aliasing. It's about transparency. (which which i don't mean just binary transparency) Particles are often (and need to be) transparent. When you have transparency you get anti-aliased edges for free.
Ooh, new skins. I'm guessing the new format is optional or only compatible with the snapshot to avoid people having invisible legs or just no skin at all?
Stained glass is done! Well, some of it. A bit over half of them are.
All of them use repeating vertical ctm. If i am not ready to faceplant my desk after finishing the rest, i might go back and add random varients of some of the tiles to have actual broken/missing bits of glass.
As it is, it's going to take me 6 properties files per color. 16 colors. 96 properties files i need to make. Plus one more for every random ctm tile i end up adding. So this will take a lot.
I made this a while back.... not completely sure why or how I thought of it.....
It's a clown nose. Completely unlike the art I usually do (maybe that's why I made it?) I'm not sure why about this either, but for some reason I feel like I'd like if you used it. Like in the art maybe, used on a scary looking clown? I'm not a fan of the pack (well, not fan of any pack honestly, so don't feel bad, I'm self-ish-centered), but I feel like it should really have a creepy clown in it (like 30s-50s style fair/carnival type stuff?). Also, you might have been one of the reasons I went for that style, I dunno.
Also, I think you should make the random fly thing above a small patch of grass. What happened to Doll's eyes? I liked your Venus Fly traps, but not the last one because it's too asymmetrical. I don't like many of your plants because they are so asymmetrical, due to how minecraft textures them to always face the same way, so you end up with a spinning plant (especially like your drooping ones). I's bad enough that if it's off just a little on the center I notice it. I like your purple and blue glass. The pink iron reminds me of my own iron bars texture, although I guess it's just victorian-style fency spikes, and mine are more curved.
I also made this:
When someone said Crimsollite's(my whole life is a lie, I used to think it was "Crimsonolite" :S ) avatar looked like Alec Baldwin. The text being because they said that about pretty low-res pixel art.
I was going to post it because I couldn't think of anything to say at the time, and didn't feel like posting a forced-meme response out of nowhere.
Also, props to anyone who finds the secret and also recognizes what it is.
So I posted that while posting some on-topic stuff, too. Srsly tho guys, don't respond to the spoiler unless you spoiler it and have some other reason to post. Really, I think that has happened a few times here with me and I don't like it. I don't want to cause offtopic even if I'm not actually being off-topic myself.

That is the most detailed clown nose i've ever seen... but... i won't be sticking a clown in my pack. I can't stand those things. But you've reminded me, i need to redo my iron bars as well.
I have a question.. so I see default uses 8x8 on mob skins, so for an 8x8 pack, does that mean I'd have to use 4x4 for mob skins?
In my opinion, I think they should still be 8x8. I find Mojang's texture resolution inconsistencies just annoying. I suggest simply ignoring the default resolutions of the "special" textured things, like chests, mobs, armor, etc., and just making them in the resolution the rest of the pack is in.

Aww, come on, don't you want to drive fear into the minds of men? Namely, you? I feel like the pack (being broken Anachronism) should have a bunch of creepy elements from tons of time periods.... Clowns just seem..... right..... to me as something to be added. pin-striped "Suits" with horned-rimmed glasses, old-style cops, WW soldiers, Knights, hillbillies, hoodlums and subway people, hover-cars(?) and other such icons twisted in a dark and mentally broken way seem like they would be fitting as well.
Just throwing out some ideas here. I think it's kind of ironic you can make some particularly creepy textures (and animations!) yet not able to stand clowns

edit: and for different mob variations, would I need a mod for that?
No, why would you? We can even have different BLOCK resolutions now if we want to, and afaik, a block-mob restraint never existed, anyways. I say keep them as-is, the pixel density will match more.
And yes, you'd need MCpatcher/Optifine for Randommobs, because nothing like that is in vanilla yet.

Oh okay, so I guess it just doesn't matter too much. Though I think mob skins are 8x8 because the pieces that make up a mob are smaller than blocks, so a pixel on a 8x8 mob's face would appear almost the same size as a pixel on a 16x16 block. I think I will stick with 8x8 for everything though, as making myself go to 4x4 is just too limiting I think.
That said.. think I'm gonna bring back my 8x8 pack from the dead, and forget the silly "4 colors per texture" rule, as I'm limiting myself enough as-is. I think I've improved on color picking (despite being TOO bright sometimes..) so I hope I can make a good 8x8 pack.

I don't have a phobia of clowns exactly, i just find them to be really, really ugly. Even though i'm making everything broken and decayed, at the same time i'm trying to make it ornate and very visually appealing. Clowns are just... not purdy.
Aside from that, i am only working with 64x here. If i resized that clown nose to be usable in a painting or on a mob, it would lose all the detail that makes it interesting and just be a red dot.
Anyway, Broken Anachronism isn't a horror themed pack. It's a bit gloomy, sure. But aside from a sense of desolation, there's not much horror to it beyond minecraft's own horror elements. (zombies and stuff exist either way)
However, i do have a plan for another pack, if i ever manage to get broken anachronism 100% finished and where i want it. It would probably be 32x, and not have anywhere near as much ctm, the style would be simpler. It would be a vintage themed pack with horror elements. Outwardly happy-go-lucky but with creepy stuff just below the surface. That one might have some clowns.

Item, with the right video settings or when held are rendered in 3D. That would look really bad in most cases if semi-transparency was allowed.

My feedback is: Holy hell damn wow, please continue this. They all look fantastic, no criticisms whatsoever!
Thanks! I was thinking about turning it into a pack.
i love this so much. i want these o3o
I've been here for a loooooooooong time.
