Its too late to change their art for Minecraft anyway. Any overhaul of the graphics would cause quite the bother for some.
I think they said something like this when they hired their first graphic artist. A lot of the textures have become iconic for the game and making textures in a different style wouldn't work, obviously.
These textures have no excuse, though. I'm just hoping that they change these textures as it is still a snapshot. The andesite was okay to me, though.
Please read "How to join". Also I think drfrozenfire stopped checking this thread again.
By the way, you don't need to be a member to get feedback and such here.
Ok, Thanks.

I'm sorry we got of on the wrong foot earlier.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
I don't care, I'm pissed off about you all treating criticism like god instead of seeing it for the douche, behavior it is to others, If I want to post again I could go to my friends house and make another account, I'm leaving MC forums along with the rest of Thok Ownage because we will be on PMC again.
greetings! im back after many attempts (and a few sleepless nights ) I've finally come up with a stone texture which I believe isn't half bad!
I also managed to remove any tiling errors (any large ones at that) from the texture, it is however 64x64 so it took me ages but I think I pulled off a "secret of mana" feel as I plan to create a "secret of mana" themed texture pack!
C+C encouraged!
Thanks again.
Stone ( by itself )
Stone ( tiled 2x2 )
EDIT: oh I made some coal ore too just now
stone and coal mixed ( want to make the stone more grey and lighter but don't know how)
(and I put the textures into an old js pack so don't hassle about"stolen textures blah blah blah)
I find it funny how they hired Eld (if I'm not mistaken), and yet their textures look no better. (Kinda)
According to the minecraft wiki, there are five artists working at Mojang, and non of them are credited as working on Minecraft, though IMHO a few of the newish blocks are far enough above the average MC quality level that i suspect they aren't programmer art. For instance the rosebush, quarts blocks and some of the new fish. Or possibly one of the coders is gaining skill, and can turn out better stuff now when they really try and/or are lucky.
First is blown up 4x. Second is original.
The resolution is 16x and I used parts of a pallette(from the alpha pack challenge-can't give a name because they are all 'anonymous'.)
Yes, it is a fail, the stone has an error, and the embedding in the ores are bad. Feel free to give any sort of criticism.
Blocks (from left to right)-Redstone ore; Coal ore; Lapis ore; Iron ore;
Emerald ore; diamond ore; gold ore; stone is the rest.
I can't give in-game pics because I'm still making the RP folder is stuffed up :L

Alright, for a first try, this is good.
I suggest finding yourself a palette. No offense, but those colors could do with reworking. Secondly, the amount of dithering is over-excessive. I would tone it down a bit. And lastly, there are some tiling errors formed by the darkest part of the stone.
Alright, I went back and reread that post. So now what I'm going to say is:
Swamp biome specific weeping willows. They're actually oak trees, just... willows now. Swamp vines as well.
Murphy, I am impress. Haha, a part of me wants to do something like this now, gah... Must resist... unless it's okay with you... XD
Also, to those complaining about the new textures in the snapshot, and the overall use of "developer art"... we're texture artists for a reason aren't we? Minecraft is iconic for it's pixelated textures, among many other things. The new "smooth" variants for the new stones look amazing, albeit the actual stone textures look awful, especially next to stone... but of course, it is a snapshot and I'm sure the texture will change (assuming someone over on /r/Minecraft makes textures they like more; Mojang uses community textures a little more often than you'd probably think.)

So! I'm going to release v1.3 fo my pack once I complete all the mobs! Currently, I'm redoing the placeholder mob textures I made, and then I'm gonna move onto the untextured ones.
First up - Skeleton:
I'm going to add variants, also, through the use of MCPatcher. Probably just one without a quiver on it's back, and eventually biome-specific ones. :3
Come on, we all know what would happen if they were to suddenly change to new textures for their default textures. We've seen what happens every single time they change 1 or 2 textures. Heck, some people changed emeralds to rubies, and rubies were never a thing outside of Mojang.
Changing their default pack would be apocalyptic. (For us.)
@Cerebral
The ore looks weird. You put flat-surface embedding on a 3D looking stone....
@damosuha
You should tone down on the dithering. It's only good in moderation. It also seems a bit rough when the lightest color is on the edge of a shape.
@zeldahuman
Whats the brown thing on the skeleton? I'd say it's a sash, since you said that one didn't have a quiver, but it doesn't actually connect...

What about when they updated the lapis block? Or the food sprites? Or added the charcoal sprite? Or when the fixed the old cobble and gravel from alpha? I don't hear much complaint about those.
The new things have only been around for one snapshot. It's still possible that they could redo the texture, though I still doubt it will happen. They really do have the resources to put better art in the game, I don't see why they don't use them.
Thanks for the feedback!
I used a pallette with difficult colours to cope with. Since most 16x packs are just either slight edits, or complete overhauls, I wanted to make it unique with the colouring and shapes. With the dithering, I had read an article on it, and I guess it just stuck in my head whilst I was making the textures.
I think that that amount of dithering would go with cobblestone. I'll tone it down with the stone.
Which ores did you think had odd shaping? Lapis? Gold? Diamond?

Despite some of the other opinions that have been posted.. I like the color, and the dithering gives texture, makes the rock look rough instead of smooth, which is good if you're wanting rougher looking rocks.
Though I do agree that there is a tiling error with the vertical stripes of black. The stone around the some of the ores and gems could be edited some to make them fit more.
EDIT: heh, 314th post, my rank is "Mathematical Dessert."
Thanks for the feedback, and yeah the color is something I want to change but I don't know what to do as ive tried but I completely messed it up! and as for the ore, I don't know how to do 3d embedding! any ideas on that?

They did, but he isn't doing any art for minecraft. Last I knew of him, he was making art for Notch's canceled 0x10c game.
*gasp*
SUPER ACTION TAU TEAM, ASSEMBLE!
Ok, Thanks.

Not a fan of the colors. Seems a bit too dark. Other than that it looks great!
Thanks for the feedback!

It's really well done.
The only thing I don't like about it is how dark it is, but that's more of a personal preference.
