According to the wiki, it's used to rename any mob (after applying a name to the tag itself via anvil), and can be found in dungeons, but isn't currently craft-able. Seems it's basically intended as the legit, non-creative, way of renaming them.

Heh, but at least with the name tags I could just set up a command block to hand them out without worrying that I'd come home to a house completely full of chickens. (I have very silly players.)
I do plan on keeping this updated as I have to do this anyway so I know what I need to add in my own packs. I just need to remember to put a note in for snapshots that didn't have changes so it doesn't look like I've gotten lost in the nether. So yea, a link back would probably be a good idea if you do plan on letting yours drop.

A note regarding the new texture system: Animations may be broken when "*0" is used as place holder for no delay in the animation txt file.

Huh, I'm surprised *0 worked at all since that's supposed to be the number of ticks that frame is to be shown for. I'd personally have expected it to just skip any frames with a *0. If you want consistency, use *1 since that means to show the frame for one tick, which is the default if no duration is given.

Haha same here. Though now it's making me think of something else for even the hardend clay.. like something you truly would use for a wall, like how wool use to be used.

This version is the transition from texture packs to resource packs.
The main changes are in the folder structure and the addition of the .mcmeta files.
These files replace all of the .txt files in the old format and are JSON files. (Javascript)
I'll post more info about the new structure when I get time. (Don't hold your breath on this.)
Eh... I'd say CTM will still be needed, just the added benifits of not having to play with metadata to get the stuff to work the way it should have to begin with XD
CTM does a LOT of things the default game still doesn't support. Randomized textures, textures that cover more than one block, connected textures, biome specific textures, metadata specific textures, the list goes on and on.
Personally I'm hoping they add support for .mcmeta files into the various CTM mods so we don't have to have both .mcmeta and .properties files.
