Make a pack based off of computer hardware. Dirt and grass can be pcb, workbench the cpu, furnace the heatsink.

Oh, you meant something useful
lol, that's clever but it's been done a few times.. I remember I saw one where the 'stone' was a chip with some wires running across it. Looked like puke

Oh I'll give you something to talk about later today. Change is coming. :]
Wow, this is a great idea. Well in reply to the feedback questions
A texture pack is a redefinition of the visual, and ONLY the visual, experience from a game. There are many games that have the option and support for texture packs, some easier to make than others, however minecraft is one of those lucky few that all that is needed is basic image editing software and experience to make a texture pack for it.
The reason to make a texture pack is to choose how to view the game to make it more enjoyable. Reasons for why the default texture pack needs changing in the first place might be change of style, better resolution, and possibly used for a specific video creation.
So yea, Also Im really looking forward to the tutorial on the animations, that will be very useful. Oh and if you want someone to help with the fonts, Vattic's faithful32 has HD font, which was created by him and Justin8, and Gimlao made the letter spacing correctly, so they might be able to help with that.

Hehe. I've gone ahead and told Steel all i know about making fonts -- how to make them work, etc, since I went on to make my own through a LOT of experimentation xD
Takes a while, and my font still doesn't have the accent characters. It's difficult to position them properly -- characters in MC tend to go out of wack really easily.
(I know there is a guide to styles, but sometimes it could be a bit hard keeping to a theme.)
I already have a section on choosing a theme listed, but it would probably be a good idea to expand it to sticking to a theme. Thanks for the suggestion. :smile.gif:
Okay everyone, as I mentioned earlier I will be updating the outline later tonight to incorporate new suggestions and to better accommodate the different resolutions. The section for how to make textures will also see a large amount of expansion because of this.
It's also probably worth mentioning that I'm doing a lot of research behind the scenes on everything people have brought up. I don't just want to regurgitate the techniques that others have presented-- I want to understand them and master them myself, so that I feel fully justified in telling others how to do them.
-Updated outline has been added. Includes many of the suggestions given.
-I am planning to seek an interview with someone at Mojang to pin down exactly what the numbers are behind determining the rainfall/temperature of a biome, and where those numbers place it on the biome color pngs.
-In light of the fact that this guide will end up being far more enormous than anticipated, I will not attempt to complete all the sections in time for my college project. Please note that they will still be done, but not necessarily in the order listed on the outline. More advanced techniques (such as bump-mapping) will come later.
And, as always, please provide feedback. :smile.gif:
xD
Anyways, this mega-tutorial should come standard with minecraft.

I use filters a lot as well. But they can be over done. Especailly if the pack happens to be a filtered default. :dry.gif:
