I've taken my first baby steps toward figuring out who owns all the different textures and source material I'm using in this pack with the idea of possibly releasing it some day. Of course figuring all that out and getting permission just adds additional delays to the already glacial pace of this pack.
Is it worth it? The people who have posted here seem to like what I've done, but it seems most people don't really notice or pay any attention. I'd hate to go through all the trouble of preparing this for release to have it just ignored.
I guess I've never been very good at self-promotion.
I built a sacristy in my cathedral in my city. New textures are the dark oak paneling, and the new painting. The torches, chair and rug I did myself too, but I showed those before. The doors & stone brick I've taken from other packs and are placeholders (though I may keep the stone brick, I haven't found anything better yet).
I really like it! I don't think the doors or stone brick fit very well or at all, so I would think make your own.
Something I thought of for quartz could look like this:
I wasn't really planning to redo netherrack, but I just stumbled across something pretty good for it (and free to use too!) so here is my new netherrack & quartz ore:
I'm having trouble getting the sides of my glass pane signs to be consistent. Does anyone know how to fix that issue? With a repeat texture the front of the glass panes show up in consistent spots that I can use as signs, but the texture for the sides are unpredictable. Sometimes they'll show up with the supports I intend, other times they'll use some other random texture from the file (even with the same orientation). I don't know what to do about it.
Nice pack! Could we have the demo, with the non approved textures switched out with the default ones? Sorry about the glass, I don't make packs, so I'm not very helpful...
Edit: Is your city based of Bioshock too? It seems to be it's own thing (as shown by the TV painting)
I suppose there is enough now that I could release what I've got to try out. I really want to get permission from Glimmar to include some of his more simple designs. I use them a lot in my city. But hopefully sometime in the next week I'll get it up. (things move slowly with me)
As for the city, it isn't really based off of Bioshock. Beyond the obvious similarity of both being underwater cities there isn't really much taken from the game. Initially I wanted to do more of a 1950's futurism feel to my pack, but since that relies so much on curves it wouldn't really fit with Minecraft. The more geometric art deco fits much better. So yea, having an art deco look to an underwater city makes Bioshock the obvious comparison. And sure, there is some influence/inspiration, but I didn't want a dark distopia. I wanted things to be relatively realistic/plausible/functional.
Oh, I put the city up on Planet Minecraft finally:
Sounds great! I will check out your city, from what I've seen of it so far, it looks really cool! Just wondering, does this need McPatcher to run? The textures are really in depth.
Yea, to look right it needs either MCPatcher or Optifine, or anything else that activates connected textures. I've used quite a lot of connected textures in the pack.
Ozzy, just a gentle reminder that when you come to upload your pack for distribution, don't forget to remove all my textures. (I've just read the small print over on your PM thread and you have stated you will be removing all borrowed textures so thanks for that. )
I think it might look better and cause less fuss (ie. I nearly blew a gasket when i first saw my textures being used in a 'mixpack' ) if you were to list some details and links for the texture packs you're currently using for the display pics, so there's no confusions as to provenance. I don't mean that to be arduous for you, but it's what I usually expect and would help your viewers to locate the texture packs you've borrowed from.

Best yet, these are actual controls from WW2 Subs and warships. (and they have an open license)
