Jeez. I haven't played Minecraft in ages so I'm not familiar with a lot of the newer mobs, nonetheless, I still work on my texture pack almost daily. This was an incredibly useful resource for figuring out all the mob textures without having to go through the painful process of trial-and-error. It's also helpful for tricky textures like the Enderman (Count the pixel height of arms and legs then figure out which side is which? No way!) so I'm quite thankful that this thread is updated as much as it is.
Can I make the Enderman Skin not glow with MS Paint?
You really shouldn't be using MS paint for texturing. Go google GIMP or Paint.NET, both are free and a helluva lot better than MS paint (and more importantly, support transparency!)
I'm curious why the scales of templates are so abstract. Why not start with the defaults as a base and scale up the ratio by like x8 or so? It's pretty hard to work with these as a base when their sizes are so odd.

The scales of the 640 files match up with SkinEdit, but the PDN files are default resolution.
maintained and updated since 2010... Someone give this man a medal!
I agree, this is an invaluable thread that could benefit all texture artists, and it will be something that will be used constantly without many replies, while it is still something that requires occasional maintenance, so I think it should be pinned for the good of all texture creators. I'm sure someone will probably bring up a good point as to why it shouldn't, but I currently think it should.
Thanks for this, I really needed some assistance on these. My pack has been out for awhile now, and I really need to get some more mobs done, but I just had such a hard time figuring out the texture wrapping.

I think my zombie skins are messed up. I use OptiFine's Random Mobs feature, allowing me to have random mob textures, so I pick various popular skins and use the as zombie skins. One of my zombie skins was Notch , and his head was on the back of his legs. please help.

As of 12w32a, the zombie textures are now 64x64 due to the Zombie Villager texture, so all you need to do is double the canvas size vertically (but make sure the texture is at the top).
I'm trying to make skins for the armors using the double layers, but the 2nd layer only covers the chest and legs and not the head and arms. The outer layer is the plates and the inner layer is supposed to be the dark part under the armour. Is there any way I can fix the 2nd layer ?
I imagine it uses the same template as the stock Skeleton.
No, it's taller and the template is a bit different...
...for the awesome.

The model for the Wither Skeleton in game is taller, but the template is the same as the regular Skeleton.
Also, I just found out that the skeleton egg creates both in the nether (not sure about in the outer world.)
Not sure how to skin a mob? Check my mob skin thread.

wanna play with me? give me a pm
They have the same layout as normal zombies, but have a villager head, found under the normal zombie texture in "zombie_villager.png".

That is such a shame, because Villagers in my pack have long robes. I was kinda hoping I could carry that over.
