Whatever happened to texture challenges? I thought they were really cool, so I decided to make another:THE ODD NUMBER TEXTURE CHALLENGE!This challenge is mainly to see how well odd-numbered resolutions fare in MC textures. The rules are as follows:
You may choose one of four resolutions:
1. 5X5
2. 7X7
3. 9X9
4. 11X11
Blocks are most important, but feel free to work on other things
Please post progress pictures (haha alliteration)
Textures due December 6th, which will be the day voting starts
I worked on this for a few hours today. This is a great challenge; tiny resolutions really make you have to think about where your pixels are going. That's not something I'm used to, having worked with 64x for so long.
EDIT: Dibs on the name Septa.
For compactness, here's an imgur gallery.
I'm open to criticism. I'm very new to the world of low-res, by no means an expert.
How much needs to be done to enter? I'd kinda like to try this to blow off some steam, but I know there's no way I'll have time to finish or even get close to finishing.
You should just do as much as you see fit. The judging will be done by voting, though, so you should probably do enough to get a good feel for the pack.
PS
Do you think I should add 13X13? I feel like at higher resolutions the odd-numberediness goes away...
Why not do something like 7x, 15x, 33x, etc? something closer to regular resolutions? I might consider entering if there were higher resolutions available.

I think the point is to do things in resolutions that aren't close to the regular ones. Having a resolution similar to one people use all the time wouldn't be much of a challenge.
And working in tiny resolutions is actually kind of fun. It's a very refreshing change after working in very high resolutions for a long time.
Dirt with grass, and hardenned clay. I tried to make stone, but I thought it looked like clay.
PS I am going for 7x7, and I bags calling mine 49. (7x7=49 for those of you who are numerically impared)
Also, I am going to try to use the palette that BonreoCat posted on the TAU a while ago, but I may add in more colours.
Did some 9x9's... I'm not really sure how to do the fancy Imgur gallery widget, so I'll post the pics in a spoiler for now...

It's quite a nice relief to do low-res textures like these! This is my first attempt at anything below 16x, and I'm finding that they are very quick to finish, yet they offer a unique challenge when it comes to making unique shapes that look different from eachother.
The only thing I don't like is how they look in-game... my brain wants to think that they're slabs, or quarter-blocks, or something like that because of the smaller amount of pixels... guess i have finely attuned pixel-senses.
I started this to kill some time since I've been feeling a little under the weather today. This is as far as I got before I couldn't continue.
Thoughts?
The stone and the cookie stuff (gravel?) are way too spotty, and the ores are too blurry; it looks like you've just made something at a higher resolution and down-scaled it.

Here's some 7x7 stone and ores.
I'd do more, but I need sleep.
(with tons of tiling issues)
Grass, dirt, stone, and some ores..

I guess a tip would be to make 10x tiles and then chop them up into 100 tiles and apply repeat ctm at least for most of the non gui "building" blocks.
If you can get 3x to look good without being one plain colour, go for it.
I think that may be cheating
