Aw thanks for the scree grab CarolW. Yes they do cycle the packs on there but again quite randomly.
Well its a really up and down affair on there. Yesterday crazy downloads over 2k and many diamonds and today looks dead lol. Main thing is having the pack at least listed by the original creator
Diamonds for Glendale, Chroma Hills, and SixtyGig. Favorited each of them as well.
Thanks everyone for all the diamonds and support. Although I still feel like a relative newcomer to the 'club' of published texture artists, you're all being super great to me. You'll probably never know just how much that means to me, especially with what's going on with my offline life. Thank you a thousand times over.
...
Sorry for getting all sentimental there. Just had to be said.
I didn't see this before Al, well all the best and I hope things in RL pick up for you. Chin up
Ah, i forgot your pack - i think i got now everyone too. Anyone else?
And yes, i noticed it too, searching for chroma hills doesn't work (at least for me).
Well i'll say thank you both for your niceties you left on PMC
You are right If you add Hills to the search CH shows somewhere on page 2, but if you add just Chroma its on page one......how silly.
This... this scares me. I made a comment on someones pack that used images taken from google (packs removed now) pretty much saying the guy didn't make the textures, he stole them...and ended up getting a reply back from someone reguarding it....
So are you saying i can just do the same as him but download upload it to the net.... i could have my own HD texture pack! thats so cool! and + i got a idear coz when you have a media fire acount. when you like upload the folder e.g texture pack projects... you could go on your download link for your texture pack then copy the URL then post a link on You tube. like a videos or somthing then people can download it without going on planet minecraft!!!! i swear that world work!
What you think?
.....................................................god wtfish.

wut.
I had a similar comment, but the user overwrote/edited it when he realized he was wrong, but he basically made fun of me and said there's no such thing as droppers and called me an idiot. Then ended it with "LOL SWAG YOLO".. I was pretty o_O about it.
Then, there's this, I saved it to show a friend because it made me laugh.

My stuff gets loads of downloads from PMC, so I use it as my main redirecting site for my adfly account. Haters gonna hate about that, but I need that adfly money, darn it.
I don't use PMC for anything besides pack hosting, though. Mostly because it's the land of 'LOL' and 'no0bz'. When I want to talk textures, I come here.

If you don't mind me asking, how much *do* you get from adfly on average? I may not use it for personal reasons, but I am curious what it's worth to popular packs that might actually generate enough actual traffic to earn actual money.

I guess that's about right for one of the popular artists. I imagine all the lower quality texture packs (Less than 1,000 downloads/month) probably get somewhere in the range of $1.
I'd be curious just to see the "what if" statistics if I had of put SixtyGig under adfly, even though I'm against using it. (Although I have nothing against people who do.) I'm not quite sure what my averages are, but I think I'm around 1,000 downloads a day at the moment. I'm actually about to break 20k tomorrow, and I just hit 10k May 2nd.
Either way though, I'm not really doing this for money so it's not a big deal, I just put my donation system in place yesterday though so I'm curious how that would workout compared to what adfly could-have gotten me.
hah, yeah, probably the best possible reply to that guy's comment.
I don't mind people rushing me, it comes with the territory. He was just the first ever to blatantly acknowledge the large amount of work I'm doing and then try to crack the whip in less than 30 words. I actually laughed in my chair when I saw your comment.

Good to see you back Steel, hope study hasn't fried your brain too much!?

You need a lot downloads to make Adfly work to any useful level, I'm testing it out for now and i love all the stats it gives, far more than curse/mediaF etc
It also heavily depends on what countries the clicks come from as a place like america pays better than say Germany/France.
My downloads are around similar to yours (some silly high spikes and a few dips) and 30k of downloads in the first month brings in around $35 (a little bit in the pot for the server/hosting fees)
Donators have been very generous in really showing their support, one donation can be 10-20k of downloads!
These are all new downloads as i haven't released any updates yet, prob next week for the first one will see how that changes things.
Gives you another comparison, so Steel's higher 80 bucks is BIG numbers!
I may drop Fly at some point not had one complaint from it so far though and the company is very good to deal with, legit and take malicious links very seriously.......its not in their interest not to.

I like Planet Minecraft better because, while you get better criticism here, I don't skin to get criticism, I skin for fun, and the PMC community accepts that more and, although less mature, they are less cynical people.

The reason here people give more criticism, is because they are trying to help you. If, say, there's an error somewhere, they'll point that out. If it's something you can do to make it better, they'll point that out to.
When comparing the two sites I find that the MCF often has a better selection of texture packs to choose from. also when it comes to new texture packs MCF often has the better ones. Of course PMC could have some nice Texture Packs uploaded here and there, non are as interesting as the ones that show up here, or are here also. Personally a big negative about PMC is the fact that the site is often down.

Actually PMC's has just as many (if not more) quality texture packs than MCF, the problem is their site fosters the concept of bucketfills and other garbage packs being acceptable.. So there's so many on there they flood out all the good content.
For example, look at PMC's recently updated list and you'll notice 80% of them are total absolute laughable junk! Their "levels" idea makes kids want to spit out as much junky content as fast as they can to gain XP. Not actually make quality material.
There system is also silly, because unless you are on one of the "most X of all time" list, no matter how popular you are you still have to fight for traffic. Then, the people who did make it on that list are there forever, and stay there from the high level of exposure, even if the pack sucks (I'm looking at you LB Photo). They should do what curse does, have a "Most X this month" list, not a "Most X of all time" list. That way people can see the fastest GROWING texture packs, that's a much more important statistic IMO.
My pack gets around 1,000-1,500 downloads a day, only 100-200 come from PMC if I didn't update, when I update I see 300-500.. and that's usually only from the 10 seconds I'm on their recently updated page before all the bucketfill kids push me off.
In short: PMC needs to redesign the entire website.
My pack gets around 1,000-1,500 downloads a day...
I hope you weren't bragging there...
But SERIOUSLY? 1 000 in one day? one single day?!? In 29 days my 6 different packs got a total of 1 800. One day! I am just bewildered!
Sorry for the off topic, but I was just thrown an unexpected curveball when I saw that number used in that sentence.
-snip stuff about PMC and their 'points' system-
In short: PMC needs to redesign the entire website.
The reason PMC has a points system is essentially because it has a negative influence on the production of packs. Sure, they would put it differently, but they have a system to increase draw to their site, and the traffic affected is the type of people that make the bucket fill packs and simple packs. Whether that be their intent or not, they are feeding the simple pack creators (and bucket fill pack, mix pack creators alike) exactly what they want, and so the number of such packs just increases. The popularity of a pack in PMC is treated like a game, and the more views and downloads your content gets, or in short: the more popular your pack is, the more points you get in this "game". The pack creators, as evidenced originally by their content alone, don't make graphics as a hobby like most of the people here on MCF, and certainly not as a job like some people here, but they do it because they are drawn to participate in this "game" they have created. The good packs on PMC are in small numbers because they are the few people there that make graphics for more than to play the game. You will notice that most of the quality packs submitted there also have a thread here, and most of those had a thread made here first.
Point being, the reason for the abundance of the low quality packs there is because of the bait they put on their line, the cheap bait gets the cheap fish. Here on MCF, the 'bait' (though I use that term loosely) is the community itself. What keeps me coming back here is the friendliness and helpfulness of (most) people here, and what I enjoy here is the talking with said community, interacting, and getting feedback from it to help me in improving the work I'm releasing. I don't release texture packs to join some 'game', but for two reasons: for people to view the work I've done, and so I can improve with the help of the community's feedback. The motives for making texture packs are vastly different, and for those who want to improve, and who want their graphics to be as good as it has potential to be, this blows the feedback at PMC away.
In addition, this is a large forum. I admit I talk a lot here, but I get the side benefit of practising typing with a forum. You don't type much at PMC because the only talking you do is a one time deal under your pack, short replies to (commonly short) feedback, and a little bit on change logs. They have a small forum but this forum is far superior to the small forum at PMC. And since releasing packs and being an active forum participant here involves interacting with such a friendly community, I type a lot. I can actually say that, before joining the forum, my WPM (words per minute, a typing measurement) was a mere 14 (counting correct words), and now, after being in this forum, I currently have 52 WPM! From 14 to 52 just from this forum. I haven't taken classes or anything, so I give that thanks to this forum, which I may not have known about should I have chosen PMC as my primary site. I'm starting to sound like an advertisement.
Edit: Whoa! That was longer than I expected! Read if you dare!
Taine you are my 100th Diamond! that makes you very special
Al, very kind words indeed on PMC thread, didn't know you liked it so much

"Chroma Hills" doesnt even show up on the search results? The frack? Chroma does though. It also looks like you fell off the reel.

Anywhere from $30 to $80 a month.
Always happy to aid in the laughs :3
