So, PMC opened up for new accounts and I went ahead and registered to add my pack there as a mirror.
I don't actually have my pack hosted there, luckily I can put a mirror as the *only* download link, but go figure, you can't link to curse.com. (Bias much?) but you can to minecraftforums.net, so I linked to my forum thread here instead.
Has anyone else used PMC? The interface and support seems god-awful, Curse blows it out of the water. If you want to have your pack hosted on their site, there's a 10mb limit? It also over-compresses your photos and ruins transparency in PNG files.
Overall, from the artist's point of view, I give it a 3/10, and an A for effort. I was just wondering if anyone else has had the same "bleh" experience from it? It's surprising that they're the first results on google when you lookup "minecraft texture pack", and that they're so popular.. it's just a poor user experience for the developers/artists in my opinion.
EDIT: I will add though, that I am actually happy I can have my only download link on PMC as a mirror, because I won't have (yet another) location to track/update files in. I can just set it and forget it, sometimes adding a screenshot here and there. So it's nice I can keep the "true" download links all under Curse and my web server.
Here's what it boils down to for me.
When it comes to keeping eyes on packs and watching for updates, PMC wins.
When it comes to making nice posts and having large files, MCF wins.
Honestly, the best part of PMC is the skinning community, it blows MCF's out of the water.

I used it as my first resource for hosting my texture pack files, but since then, I have found that direct is better than Planet Minecraft, and the Curse Forge is better still. PMC is a community of itself, but the issue is that the majority of the community's graphics designers are the simple pack creators that keep coming here. We see a lot of simple or bucket fill packs posted here, but PMC seems to be the origin of the style's designers. because they encourage each other in making such packs to a point that they spread to the official Minecraft forum, where it gets shut down because it the non simple pack creators can be found here, and non simple packs take time and effort that typical simple packs don't require.
The bias in the links is a clear display of their goal, they are trying to get people who release their packs there to become more reliant on the PMC community until you use it primarily.
I am slowly removing myself and my packs from it because it is not only more struggling to maintain my packs on both hosts, but tha demands and opinions of the community there is quite contrasting beside the community here.
The layout of the site itself is partially the reason the community is so focused on simple and bucket fill packs: because the people primarily using the site favour the easy-to-use and simplistic layout, which is in a sense, the style of texture pack creation they develop.
Unfortunately, PMC has a portion of the community driven towards skins, rather than texture packs. From the way things developed in the early rise in popularity, the skin community there is superior for several unstated reasons. This combination of contrasting groups causes people who's primary MC hobby is both skinning and texturing (like Peyton) to get placed in between two separate communities. This is not always bad, but it roots one's home base in both sites, and when criticisms break out on one, it is an awkward spot to be in. Moreover, being spread between both will make it difficult to get assistance with the consideration of both nearly opposite average opinions.
In answer, very loosely. I rarely update my packs there, and only occasionally check for messages, though I make no promises that I will continue to maintain my packs there forever.

Yeah, I can see the skinning community doing much better on PMC, small, quick, easy to view.. Fast downloads.
They're a bit weak on texture pack support though, but since I can mirror my pack there directly to here, I'm ok with using them. I really like that my download clicks overthere cna be transitioned to Curse download clicks, that I feel are more valuable.
The only reason I even put my pack on PMC is I don't want someone else to. You see packs as they get popular end up thrown up on other sites as unauthorized downloads from fans (or people who just want attention.) and if you don't already have an official download listed there, it's that much harder to get the unauthorized one removed. So, I went ahead and posted there. If it wasn't for that, I'd probably not bothered.
Even worse, until half an hour ago "Rayvolution" wasnt even registered on PMC, imagine is someone Registered "Sphax" or "Misa" (or peytonisgreat!) and posted an unauthorized mirror in their name. That would be very annoying to deal with, because you'd have a hard time even proving that's not you.

that's actually why I favor the idea that I can "Mirror" my pack on there, but have no actual files hosted. This way I can get my pack mirrored and "safe" from download-stealers who may pretend to be me over there, but technically not offer an actual download. They still get redirected to my MCForums post (and thus, curse eventually).
If they ever put MCForums on the mirror blacklist, I'll probably just remove the link. I have no interest what so ever hosting my files there, and quite frankly, the 10mb limit is not enough.

That actually happened to DrKalashnikov, luckily there are some great moderators on the site like Paril, the_soup, Dollars, and more. Since I know a lot of mods, I can get content taken from this site and put on there taken off easily.

I use it, and the downside of it is that the download numbers well.. they don't really mean squot, but for the 'simple' designers and those who just post random scribbles, it means a lot, as even the most horrid packs can end up with a lot of downloads, either by people just wanting to for s and giggles to poke fun at the person or shoot even bots going nuts. The high downloads makes them think their work is good and thus when it spills over here its a hastle.
It is a good place to host files though and works for a good mirror and thats just what I use it for. There are also a lot of high end and respected artists and map makers there, like Hypixel and the crew that makes the Hat venchure map.
Yes it has it's bad sides.. but it has its perks as well.
I actively maintain MCF, PMC and CF. Simply put, I want as many people to see my work as possible. I find each community has its positive and negative participants and each interface has good and bad points. I now use CF as my primary host location and the other sites link to the CF download. CF has proven highly stable and easy to use (excepting a bug with uploading large TPs with Chrome). I am happy with the arrangement so far.
I use it, but more as a secondary. I prefer MCF, but I want to put it in as many places as possible. I've also noticed that I get a lot more attention posting there. Most videos or media about my texture pack link back to that; this gives me the impression people look there more.
Pros:
• Tons of users
• Easy-ish to update
Cons:
• Websites Down a lot
• Lots of bugs and glitches

I agree, each community will have it's ups and downs. Rereading my OP it sounds like im being a bit of an ass to the PMC community, I really don't mean to sound that way. But I do plan to maintain links on all 3, but my primary source will always be my Direct Download and Curse links. I just feel more at home here.
I guess, maybe it's just me, but I see PMC has the place where the bucketfill kids hang out where as Curse is where the more serious artists are. We just have higher standards, and tend to scare away all the (lets face it) junk wannabe artists because we aren't telling them how awesome their solid pink dirt blocks are. Those guys don't want our constructive criticism as much.
The Texture Discussion forum here on MCForums is great, it's a nice escape for a lot of us. The MC community (lets face it again ) is full of a bunch of idiots. But that doesn't seem to be the case in this little subforum we all live in.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying PMC is nothing but goofy kids, I'm sure they have tons of mature, skilled, professional-quality artists that only exclusively use their services, I'm just saying you'll probably find less rift-raft here.
I find the community here at MCF, THE BEST! Not just the best people but also supportive and encouraging. I have PM conversations with Misa, SteelFeather, and Glimmar directly, each has been helpful and generous. I can find tutorials to do anything I need and if it does not exist knowledgeable people, like you guys, Corner_g and Rayvo, will take the time to answer my question, and sometimes they are Noob-ish. For people trying to get a leg up into texturing Minecraft, this is THE place.
The other sites are focused on distribution (at least from a texture pack perspective) and I take full advantage of that. Here is where I develop my texture packs.

(koo-star-neek) The real numbers are countable and I CAN prove it. Cantor was wrong!
One thi9ng that erks me about PMC, is how their feature items work. It seems to grab whatever random nonsense it wants to to post in the big headers as the 'hot file', and this includes a lot of the flat color packs or random scribbles or even packs with just a few badly done blocks done, with few views.. few downloads, and it's a 'hot' file already?
This here is already a hot file right now, and it's another simple pack default flat color edit. But it's the newest hot file, overshadowing many other amazing packs posted that have more views and downloads then.. that thing.
But yeah, PMC's got some good to it, minus the flat packs and
painterly/doku rips
I find it not so much the existence of the packs there, but the encouragement among each other and the hostility to any constructive criticisms that keeps the packs from improving.
I have more than once considered the possibility of being a moderator there, and spreading my time across as an official on both sides, which would allow me much more info on stolen textures, etc.

I just had this happen, it's not on the featured header, but overnight my pack is now No.2 on the "What's Hot" list? As great as that is for exposure for my pack, judging it off the stats of other packs it's "beating" I don't understand how it's No.2? I should be much lower, not even on the list at all to be honest.
Mines not really listed anywhere.. and most the packs high on the list hardly have any views, or downloads.. and are a bunch of simple flat out bad packs.. yet they rank above other well made packs.
Whoever does the rating on that site, or programed the automation if it has such, really badly needs to re-think wtf there doing.

Yeah, I have no idea, I was trying to figure out the rhyme or reason behind the math. I think it has something to do with ratios, because packs will *really* high views/downloads but low diamonds/favs seem to be valued much lower than packs with the same diamonds/favs but much lower views/downloads. So I think views/downloads in an odd way actually hurts you, if you don't have the diamonds/favs keeping up. Who knows, whatever math it is, it's fuzzy. I can't figure it out. ;P
But I totally don't get it, like this pack is in the No.3 spot right below me.. I mean seriously? a poor mob-recolor pack is almost as good as mine? I try to be humble with my work, but I'm pretty sure I got this dude beat. http://www.planetmin...okemob-legends/
EDIT: I should probably clarify, I don't think I should even BE on that list with the very little reputation I've gained over there. I'm just using the example above as why the list is just that jackered up.

The whole "popular reel" thing is mainly based around two things: Diamonds and page views.
Since there are many stolen/remixed/flat out awful packs on site, people would just view the pack's page
to flag it, comment how terrible it is, ect.....and the pack would reach the reel just by views alone.
Another reason stuff that bad reaches the reel is because people advertise the hell out of them in the chatroom there
(often times breaking the rules in the process), and people there are more likely to see it.
Thankfully in both cases the stolen/remixed content is removed quickly, though it is annoying as all hell that we can't remove packs
based on quality, as that would clear out 3/4 of all packs on the site, and it's "squashing creativity" apparently.
