I'm creating a pirate themed texture pack, and so far I think I have some good ideas for certain items and mobs, but I'm wondering what textures I can use without messing up textures of other blocks (likes furnaces and dispensers that share textures). I also need some suggestions for other kinds of items and objects. I have some complex ideas that might sound like a mod if they were improperly explained, but they're actually just features of the game interpreted differently.
If you want to give me advice or suggestions, then I'll gladly take it, but I won't listen to anyone who just doesn't like any of my ideas.
Here are most of my ideas so far:
Blocks:
Wooden Planks - The four different wooden planks are going to be different types of wood with different quality and purpose. Birch planks are rough, weathered wood that can be used for a ship's deck. Jungle planks are smooth, dark wood that are fit for a captain's cabin. I want one other type of wood to make the outside of a ship with, and the remaining one I'm not sure about yet.
TNT - TNT is a crate of gunpowder, of course.
Dispenser - Definitely the front of a cannon, but I can't think of a block that could be used as the back of a cannon.
Wool - Used for sails, with different styles based on the color.
Torches - A bundle of sticks that have been lit on fire.
Iron Door - Secret passage that looks like stone.
Cake - This is a priceless map that can lead you to the Fountain of Youth. If you're ever caught by enemies of yours, eat the map so that the enemy can never find it :P.
Lapis Lazuli - Blue fragments of decorated stone, that can be made into fancy blue blocks with silver designs.
Brewing Stand - Used for making various piratey beverages.
Pumpkin - A carved wooden skull.
Obisidian - I don't know how much sense this makes if you think about lava or water, but obsidian will be marble.
Items:
Bow And Arrow - I definitely want to make this a pistol, but I can't remember what the name of those bullet-like things were..
Swords - Diamond Swords will be strong metal cutlasses, golden swords will be fancy cutlasses, iron and stone swords will be regular and average cutlasses, and wooden swords will be knives.
Biomes:
Mushroom - The plague has severely affected some areas, so the only life you'll find here are sick cows. The trees (Giant Mushrooms) here are dead, and won't drop any wood.
Snow - I really need some suggestions for this, I don't want any sort of snow in a world that's supposed to be warm and sunny. I'm thinking of making snow into thick grass, that you can dig up to get clumps of mud (snowballs). When I ever manage to finish this texture pack, I'm thinking of making another pirate-themed texture pack for other types of climates.
Jungle - The dense leaves of trees make the jungle quite a dark place, perfect for making any sort of lost temple or ruins.
Dimensions:
-The Nether, instead of being the fiery pit of evil, will be caves that are far deeper underground and require a Marble Mineshaft (Nether Portal) to get to. The lava is still there, but Netherrack looks a lot more like stone so that it looks more like underground caves (It will be lighter/darker, to tell them apart). Greedy pirates (Zombie Pigmen) have made themselves pirate fortresses out of wood (Netherbrick).
-Inside soldier forts (Strongholds), you will find a room that has a portal inside of it. Place 12 enchanted doubloons (Eyes of Ender) around the portal, and you are taken to... The Sky. Here, you can walk on the mysteriously solid clouds and look at the bright blue sky above you. Majestic towers of marble (Obsidian) stick out of some of the clouds, but it's peaceful looks are misleading. Roaming the skies is a dark winged beast that sailors have claimed to seen in the sky, and it doesn't look at all friendly.
Mobs:
Ocelots - I'm going to go with tigers, but if anybody knows of a cat-related animal that lives in jungles like Minecraft I'll consider that instead.
Black Cat - A dirty cat with grey/brown fur.
Orange Cat - A fancy black and white cat.
Siamese Cat - A baby tiger :D.
Endermen - Enderman are pirates that have been cursed, so that they may never touch water or be near the sea again. They live in the clouds to be safe, but sometimes they will come down to the ground and take blocks. They carry Cursed Doubloons (Ender Pearls) around with them, but they can be turned into Enchanted Doubloons (Eyes Of Ender) with blaze rods.
I need ideas for Ghasts, Blazes, Magma Cubes, Wolves, Pigs, and Creepers.
Minecarts:
Wagons can be placed on dirt paths (minecart rails), that looks like dirt but with tracks going through it. They can be smoothed down (powered) to increase your speed in one.
Redstone:
This is where it gets a bit confusing. Redstone dust will be retextured to gunpowder, and gunpowder will be retextured to look like a barrel (not crate) of gunpowder. Instead of being anything related to electricity or power, Redstone will instead be fuses of gunpowder that can be lit with a (retextured Redstone) torch.
Enchanting:
Enchanting won't be enchanting in my texture pack, but instead it will be trading with distant lands. You collect doubloons (XP Points), and you can trade (enchant) some of them along with one of your tools for a higher quality item. The table is a simple spot for trading, but if you place some shelves with maps (Bookshelves) around it, more traders can find you (higher level enchanting).
My texture pack will be called The Reach Of The Maelstrom, which I will explain once I complete it. There are some textures that I think I'll have difficulty doing myself, so if somebody wants to work with me in making this texture pack I would appreciate the help.

"Victory is like a watermelon. It's hard to spell and it tastes good."
I'm quite sure the splash-potions use the same texture as the regular potions, only altering the top...or something like that - so, this may be impossible.
Of course, I could be completely wrong here, as I've never textured potions :3
There's a texture for the bottle and a texture for the contents of the bottle, so I could make Splash Potions into bombs. I will, however, keep regular potions as "piratey beverages" :P.

I have been scouring the internets and sailin' the 7 seas to find a piratey texturepack
Arr!
I can help if this is still on.
I'm still thinking of making it, but I just haven't had the time to actually get started on all the textures. I'm having trouble getting my own texture packs to work in-game, so I can't see what anything looks like with it :(. I don't know if I'll be able to work on this for a while, but when I can I will.

I really like a lot of your ideas, I can tell you've really thought about it. That nether idea is my favorite but the "Wagons" and dirt trails are pretty cool too. I hope you can finish this. Are you compressing the folder your textures are in or the stuff inside the folder?
Have you seen Pirates of the Carribean? if yes, remember the old scruffy looking dog that held the keys? make the wolves...old scruffy looking dogs simmilar to the movie! (without the keys)

I'm not quite sure, I've tried different combinations of zipping it and editing it in different places, but I can never seem to get it to work now. I've got it to work once before, but at the time I was using Paint and none of the textures were transparent.
I'm glad that you're all supportive of this, I'm going to try to get to work on it soon :).

Sup fool just sain i can help ya' out whit those textures..
I can make 16x16 32x32 64x64..
I would to help.
That would be great, it's going to be a 16x16 pack . Textures I think I'll have a hard time making would be some of the types of wood, the brewing stand, and some mobs like the Enderman.

Black Cat - A dirty cat with grey/brown fur.

Why tigers? Tiger wouldn't run away from you. You should make it a Fishing Cat or something sort of like that. In fact I don't think you have to change that texture at all.

Ocelots are native to the jungles near the caribbean sea. The leopard cat and fishingcat look similar to the ocelot ( in simplified graphics) and live in India and Asia.
How about you make the Nether into the dark, briny deeps? Like Davey Jones' Locker? That way you can make Ghasts into the Kraken , and Zombie Pig Men into human-fish people!

No, there hasn't been much progress... Unfortunately, I'm more creative than productive :P.
