While you're the rule maker Peyton, I disagree. He uses a minimal amount of colors in ways that accurately represent the block to a realistic extent. Levaunt nailed the "Simple Pack" classification with these textures.
WITH THIS SAID: The extra highlight and shadow in some of the previous textures, Levaunt, you should keep. Forget the challenge for a second. If you have something going for you stick with it. I really like the minimalist, but not overly simple style you had for the textures earlier on this page. They need that darkest shadow. These look too flat without it.
P.S. This palette's stunning Jimmy! Props.
EDIT: If voting begins now, I say Steel is on top. Peyton's are great too, but Steel has the edge.
Oh boy, this is turning out to be quite a mess. I had thought it would be easy enough to have a 'simple' challenge, but apparently everyone has different ideas about what a simple pack is. I think the challenge needs to be updated to either better define what a simple pack is, or better define what's allowed to be submitted. Because while I love Sheep and Levaunt's textures, they are not simple by any definition (Levaunt especially, except for the top grass and stone bricks).
The issue here is that a lot of you guys are trying to do what you normally do-- apply shading, dithering, and AA to define the textures. But for this challenge as I had originally envisioned it, those techniques are crutches. You don't have to think about how to make cobble look like cobble if you just throw some dithering on it. It's much more difficult (and fun) to try to create a texture that reads as cobble without doing all the usual shading techniques. Think of a simple pack as cutting away all the unnecessary fluff and leaving just the bare essentials, and then polishing those essentials until they gleam.
In any case, I want to hear everyone's thoughts on this. Sound off.

Well I'm glad somebody likes my stuff. ^^
I'd vote Sheep's texture to be perfectly fine, and some of Levaunts as fine, but some definitely not. I do believe it needs to be more defined on what a simple pack is, and what is acceptable and what is not. Although that is up to Peyton and you, steel. As you guys are the founders of the contest. I'd suggest extending it a little more for whoever needs to redo or retry because of this. But that is just me.
On other words, I like your stuff Steel. Keep going.
I love those saplings. I'm totally stealing that design.
Cutest Emerald ore I've ever seen.
Who made those houses in the back? I see pictures of those everywhere.
You see that green button with the plus? You dont have to click it, and I am not gonna force you to do it.
EDIT: So scraping what I have. I need to come up with some thing good that actually takes skill.
would it be brave for me to attempt Levaunt's palette? Quite scared of trying honestly.
EDIT : ill stick with Neoncubes. I'm in love with the creaminess of it.
I need to restart too...
No worries, I already have a general concept of this pack. I'm diggin' it.
I would (Personally) take that 32x32 concept you had earlier and put that towards a 16x16. It would look sweet.
Looks good, but not simple. And where's your palette?
You could always try out mine!
SHIOTSCRAPSI imagine Levaunt taking ten minutes to make these no doubt.
It's pretty bad, so all of you people who think your work doesn't cut it, prepare for a confidence boost!
It's funny, I kinda have the same "Plus" symbol concept as you...lol
Jimmywalker's palette. I actually really like playing with it!
Haha, not that quick no. Although I didn't time myself...
Twitter: @Levaunt
Dark, atmospheric, I like it; very Halloween-y.
Foliage fun for everyone!
Still iipods pallete, but I decided not to skip on foliage colors,it's amazing what Minecraft will consider gray.
My god. You must teach me your ways o.O... [Being completely serious]

While those are REALLY good, I still don't feel that they are quite simple enough, at least not for my tastes.
No, where's the palette you entered?EDIT: Sorry, I didn't see yours. My bad!
Some of them are simple. Some are not. Either way, these textures are absolutely stunning. I need to learn how to do this. Badly
