I love the surreal look of the end in this texture pack. The harsh white void that persists even while the world in the distance fades to total blackness. Very striking. (And no, the crystals aren't textured all the way yet. Sorry.)
When endermen were first introduced they were harmed by sunlight in the same way that zombies and skeletons were. I naturally assumed that they were some form of alien undead. Even though this is no longer the case, I like the look of them so I'm keeping it.
I just don't like the look of the villagers... I can't put my finger on it... Like how you'll see something and not like it but you can't say what you don't like exactly...
It's probably that they're giving you the raspberries.
But seriously, when you figure it out, let me know. Although I don't really care enough to work on them anymore, if enough people can provide constructive feedback I might just have to.
Please...finish this soon. I wanna see the blueberry villagers and blue netherbrick! (Blue is my favorite color) And I like how you took a bold chance with the netherbrick, but it somehow fits in
The nether brick is now a slightly lighter shade of blue, but basically the same. I lightened it after getting some feedback from outside the thread.
Actually, the nether brick is inspired by the blue Netherrack that Zombie Cleo has in the painterly mix she uses for her let's play. I liked that it was much easier on the eyes than the red, but I still wanted the Nether to be harsh on the eyes so I relegated it to the nether brick. Makes for a nice cool area to rest the eyes from the harsh red, as well as making nether fortresses easier to see (which I like). I don't know if this was really a 'chance' I was taking so much as it was just me imitating a painterly variant I like.
This end reminds me of something someone did once with the light map for the end... They made light sources turn things black in the end. Don't ask me why this reminds me of that... Maybe it's just the sky, you know everything looks bright... even the dark.
The first rule of the preview version is... aw skip it.
More to the point, no, I won't be giving one out for a while. In the next week or two I'm going to start doing a texture a day in order to finish this pack. I only have a few dozen textures left to go (mostly mobs and the new 1.3 stuff) so at this point I think I'm just going to wait until I'm done. Sorry.
Also, now that I really look at it, I really need to work on that white stone. Surprised nobody's called me on it really...
Really nice pack. I might suggest some things for the sandstone and obsidian, though. Use the rough obsidian for a base for snowflake, and have smaller spots but more numerous (I do have a real chunk of Snowflake Obsidian, btw). For the sandstone, you may want to make it look more golden in color like a pyramid instead of the light tan of sand.

I thought of that, but I want to keep it mostly black or at least very dark. I think I have a version where I tried this saved, so I might use it for a future pack. Also, it's awesome that you actually own snowflake obsidian.

Why would I want to make it look like a pyramid? I don't build pyramids. Additionally, my sand is white in this pack, so that doesn't even make sense to say 'the light tan of the sand'.
I honestly think I like the reddish version that everyone else likes, so I'll probably keep it like that. Sorry if this displeases you, but I can't please everybody all the time.
No, it's going to stay a 16x pack. I have no plans on re-making everything at a higher resolution since I don't personally like high-res packs all that much.
It will still use MCPatcher/Optifine for the animations and color tweaks... but that is designed to be optional for those that don't want to/can't use them for whatever reason.

k good, my CPU doesn't handle downloads, so hd packs or packs that REQUIRE MCPatcher don't work for me, glad i will be able to use this masterpiece
a suggestion for the glass, choose a block you like, like wood or stone. Then make a very small outline of selected block on the glass, and leave the rest blank

What I was saying is that since there are Pyramids in 1.3 that you could make it more pyramid-ey in color to match that. I do like the reddish sandstone, so it would be no dissapointment to me that you use it, in fact I would like the variety in color (that and the fact that pyramids a lot of times have reddish color on the inside anyway ;P) In fact, I voted for the reddish sandstone anyway.
And when I said the "light tan of the sand" I was thinking about the default sand. My mind can jump to certain things rather quickly sometimes...and I didn't really look at the individual textures as much as I looked at the whole picture in your preview images, so...yeah. Though you could consider your sand to be just a very light tan that is very whitish. By the way no matter what I am always right; no matter what you say I will always find a way to be right
Great work on the pack, though, and I hope to use it when it comes out (though I may change the villagers so they aren't...whatever the heck they are now)
Off-Topic: I had to edit this post quite a few times because I kept forgetting to say something. But now I think I'm done editing this post.
I like it, but I think there should be a more prominent highltight on the planks.
As I've said before, the planks will be changed when I figure out how to make them look the way I want to at this resolution. Until then, please be patient.

Nope. I hate glass that's done like that. The glass has been redone a little from the version shown in the posted screenshots, but I'm pretty much leaving it in that style.

I personally despise the generated structures in Minecraft (except for the nether fortresses and end spires), so I refuse to take them into account when texturing. This is probably also the reason everyone seems to hate my villagers... I hate them so why shouldn't everyone else?

OK, I get it, nobody likes them. At some point I suppose I should care enough about the villagers to redo them... Ugh.
Everyone loves that smooth obsidian but I personally have become enamored with the snowflake version. Hmmm... What to do, what to do...

Well you don't have to COMPLETELY redo them I suppose. You could just make their skin seem...normal.
I get the thing with the not taking account the generated structures, though. Trying to make the blocks look like what it's supposed to be instead of fitting them in with the structures.
And if you really like the snowflake version and this pack is mainly for you, even though you have polls, you could make it so there's an alternate texture in the file to swap out with the obsidian texture (have snowflake where it would be used by minecraft but still have the smooth obsidian in the file so people can use whichever one they prefer by swapping the textures)

[Insert joking accusation of racism here].
But seriously I think if I redo them I'm going to have to do them from scratch. I'm kind of intent on keeping them blue, but I might vary it a little more than I do currently. We'll see. If I work on them at all it'll most likely be post-release.

I'll probably do that, but the other way around. I'll make the smooth the main one since it's more popular and keep the snowflake version in the pack as an alternate. Then again, since it'll probably be the only alternate, I'm just as likely to say "screw the poll we're doing this MY way" and include my beloved snowflake obsidian as the only version.

I was originally going to say to do just that, but I decided to do the more "everyone friendly" version
New announcement in the OP: I'm going to try to do a texture every day from now until the pack is completed. I'm so close that this seems like a good thing to do to keep myself motivated and get everyone psyched up (no pun intended) for this thing!
This has probably been said before, but you could just create a customizer if people demand the smooth obsidian.
Easier said than done. I'm leery to use minecraftcustomizer.net until they add the ability to add whatever files I want (including ones for mods) without a lot of hassle. Barring that, I can't just pull something like Painterly's site out of my ****... both for lack of technical ability and lack of money. And also because it would be stupid to do for one texture.
