I've just begun fiddling with the terrain.png, and I decided to test out how the coblestone flowed, but when I selected the pack and went into my save, it was still the default cobble. I made sure that I had the correct terrain.png in my .zip, but for some reason it won't show up in-game.
Your avatar tells me I'm too stupid to view your picture so what makes you think I can help you with your problem.
Kidding aside, here are a few things to check:
1) Is the terrain.png in the root of the .zip file? It should be.
2) Did you move the .zip file into the /texturepacks/ folder of /.minecraft/? You should have.
3) Did you remember to actually select your pack from the Texture Packs option in Minecraft? It's right below the Multiplayer button on the main menu.
If none of these obvious things is your problem, then help us to help you. What program are you using to make your textures? What program are you using to compress you .zip file? Any information you can render will be helpful to us.
Also, change your avatar. I very nearly didn't respond to this because of it.

1. Explain further
2. Yes. Side note: I'm on a Mac.
3. Yes.
I am making my textures with Adobe Photoshop Elements 10, I'm not exactly sure what I use to compress the files. but it seems to work when downloading other texture packs just fine.
And I'll change it. I picked it about a year ago and thought it would be funny. Thank you for deciding to help.
Edit: Is that better?
Texture packs have a strict folder structure. If you open up the .zip file you should see the terrain.png. You should NOT see it inside a folder that is inside the zip.
This is the most common mistake new texture pack creators make. You basically have to mimic the folder structure of minecraft.jar when setting up your texture pack. If it's not in a folder in minecraft.jar, it shouldn't be in one within your pack. The opposite also holds true, for example your paintings will be in "myPack.zip/art/kz.png". See?
If you're absolutely sure that this is correct, try figuring out what program you're using and check your compression settings. I know a few people have complained that the default on a mac compresses it beyond the point where Minecraft can read it.
OK, yes, I am sure it is correct. I simply copied the Classic texture pack and renamed it. Then replaced the terrain.png with the new one, exactly where it was. Second, how would I go about checking my program and settings?

Hmmm. That's usually the problem.
I don't suppose you'd be willing to upload it so I could check it out. If you like you can send it to me in a private conversation; and of course I not redistribute it for any reason.

Correct: myPack.zip/terrain.png
Incorrect: myPack.zip/myPack/terrain.png

I dunno dude. You're on a Mac. I'm a Windows user.
