So I'm working on a doodle-style texture pack, and I've edited the spider.png, cave_spider.png and spider_eyes.png, but in the game I always see the edited spider_eyes.png overlapping the default spider eyes. Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks!
I see it overlapping the DEFAULT spider eyes. As in, the ones with the default texture pack.
maybe you've named it incorrectly? make sure there are no capitals or space in a names within your texture pack (files and folders) or else they won't be read.

I've quadruple checked, the file names are exactly the same as the ones in minecraft.jar
well, can you post a .ZIP with just the mob folder and all of the spider files?

To fix it, fill your spider_eyes.png in with a black background. I've had a problem of spiders turning white from a modified spider_eyes.png, but it also seems to solve this as well.

I've heard filling it with black that is 1% opacity does the job, which might be what lemon is referring to.
EDIT: Come to think of it, a full black fill might do it as well. If it doesn't, turn the opacity down.
Very low opacity (<9% or something) tells the game that there are pixels there, but they don't get rendered for some reason (to do with coding, probably) - hence the old fix for HD font spacing issue, which was drawing a line with 1% opacity after each character to make them spaced out in-game.
Not sure if it bears much relevance here, though. As I said, if opaque fill doesn't work try this.
Hehe this too! It is not just HD font though, just an all-around kerning fix (no even sure if it fixes HD problems). I am 100% sure that opacity does matter for the font, but I think black doesn't display on the _eyes.png files anyways.

No, I tried it, they both look proper. It does not make the cave spider look black, just gives the eyes of spider_eyes.png.
ROFL I was the one who suggested this originally
