The Care and Feeding of Texture Pack Artists
Rules for maintaining life, limb, and art
If you are reading this thread, congratulations! You've found a texture pack that you love, and now you want to use it in Minecraft, or maybe even leave a comment. But what you might not realize is that attached to your shiny new pack is a Texture Artist, and these creatures can at times be difficult to deal with. Here are some tips for how to avoid an uncomfortable encounter with your texture artist's teeth:
1)Observe the title. Packs labeled [1.8.1] are compatible with Minecraft version 1.8.1. Packs labeled [1.9 pre5] are compatible with 1.9 pre-release 5. Using a reply to ask if said pack is compatible with x version of minecraft will result in bristly artists, or in being ignored.
2)Read the entire first post of the thread, often called the OP. All the important stuff is here, including instructions on how to avoid having your hand bitten off by irate artists and their sympathetic fans.
3)If some blocks seem glitchy, use the HD patch. Said patch is known to cure all visual ills associated with texture packs.
4)When in doubt, use the HD patch. Seriously.
5)Do not accuse, insinuate, hint, suggest, or outright state that a texture pack has glitched Minecraft/stolen your wallet/ruined your life. Texture packs are images, not code. They cannot and will not 'mess with' your game. If the game freezes or lags, your computer is a piece of **** and you need to get a new one. Or else you need to stop trying to run a 512x pack using Fortran.
6)If the HD patch crashes your game, you are doing something wrong. Studies have shown that 99% of those utilizing the artist's work are able to run the HD patch effectively and painlessly.
7)One word replies = frustrated artist
8)Replies stating 'this sucks' = feral artist + fans howling for your blood.
9) Do not quote the entire OP. It takes up the entire page and serves no purpose other than to demonstrate that you've located the 'quote' button. Or that you can't find the 'reply' button.
10)Feel free to make suggestions. Just remember that your artist is a wild, untamed thing and is free to ignore them. :smile.gif:
11)Never, under any circumstances, place the texture pack download behind your own adfly link. That my friends is what we call stealing, and it's enormously disrespectful to the person whose artwork you are wrongfully making money off of.
12)Don't comment on a pack thread to talk about how much you like a different pack. The purpose of having a thread for a pack in the first place is to enable discussion about that pack. Not about latest update for insert pack name here that you want to tell all your friends about.
I love this so much :happy.gif:
Mostly because it is all true, I've seen this many times.
And by the way:
"[1.9.5] are compatible with 1.9.5"
Don't you mean 1.9 Prerelease 5?
Other than that, another great thread.

I think more should be added to rule #1, something like: Be aware of Minecraft updates. Realize that just because Minecraft is updated, does not mean new textures were added. Read the changelogs (such as released by jeb_ or on the minecraftwiki) and be informed on how compatible the texture pack will be with your current version of Minecraft. Does that sound official? :smile.gif:
Although honestly, the thing that annoys me most is when someone comments on my thread about something they don't like, and I respond-OR BETTER YET- possibly resolve their problem with my pack, and I never hear from them again.
"I'm an outsider by choice, but not truly.
It’s the unpleasantness of the system that keeps me out.
I’d rather be in, in a good system. That’s where my discontent comes from:
being forced to choose to stay outside.
My advice: Just keep movin’ straight ahead.
Every now and then you find yourself in a different place."

Maybe 11 should instead be "Do not post a texture pack you did not make without permission," and a little note below could be not to use an adfly link?
... I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that you identify with wolves. :laugh.gif:
But seriously, this is great. I think that linking to this thread should be the standard issue reply for the 'too dumb to minecraft' crowd that sometimes frequents the texture forums. I know if/when I ever get around to publishing mine that's what I'll be doing. :laugh.gif:

Pretty much got every aspect of the model texture pack thread there!
Seriously people, when in doubt, use the patcher!
Mostly because it is all true, I've seen this many times.

"[1.9.5] are compatible with 1.9.5"

Ah. Good point. Edited.
Thanks for the sweet script

ps... maybe need something with adfly and adcraft related inquiries...
Now all we need, of course, is for people to read this and pay attention to it.
