I personally prefer default over all texture packs so far. Though the theme and all are nice, the color choice sometimes in a pack is just not my style. Although there are very skilled and professional artists like doku, their texture packs suck because of the crappy dark theme they also carry. Not only do they carry a dark atmoshpere when using them, they even look pretty dark when a room is being torched. The texturepack colors I usually see are either dull, dark and dirty, or just really light.
There is not one person I have seen who has been able to produce extremely unique work like doku's style, yet has balanced contrast and color choice like default.
Tell you the truth, my favorite "texture pack" is the default. My only complaint is that if they had a TRUE HD version (not minecraft enhanced or LP photorealism) like faithful but higher res., itd be the best thing ever. like keep the textures just make the curves smoother and stuff like that, oh and the glass needs to be more clear :tongue.gif:
I love the defualt almost as moch as dokucraft... but the stone isn't up to par. It's too rough for the "clean" style, and too smooth for the "realistic" style. I like both of thosh art styles on stone but it's a bit cuaght in the middle.
The water is a terrible, unrealistic color. I've seen everything from lakes, to rivers, creeks, and the Atlantic ocean, and never once saw water that looked like that, haha.
- the glass texture, too much useless pixels in the middle. Comme on it's a glass, we're supposed to be able to look through it.
- grass texture that don't tile properly. I hate that when we can see each block.
- armors... ugly ugly ugly... incredibly ugly, way too simple.
- All UIs. Too simple, and I can't stand this pale grey anymore.
- doors textures, too simple.
- Chests.
- Furnace
- water color, too blue.
- the glass texture, too much useless pixels in the middle. Comme on it's a glass, we're supposed to be able to look through it.
This is the exactly reason why lots of texture packs has only a frame for glass, now thats WAY worse. The lines in the middle are barely annoying (for me at least), and is utilized to define glass as glass. It looks like a bunch of **** laying around when its just framed.

glass dirt leaves stone gravel and clay, I love quandary's red clay :tongue.gif:. Plus its just so... bland. I wonder how people witll texture endermen
I personally don't like the noise. I see how noise is part of shading, but the default isn't exactly uniform and some pixels just don't fit the block they're in. Well shaded versions of the default textures can be amazing.

Notch has stated several times that he is not an artist. That is apparent. The entire thing looks like a child's drawing. From the obscene color choice things like glass and cobble. Granted, the newer stuff isn't so bad; mainly because they finally hired a texture artist.
Overall, the default isn't the worst I have seen. But it isn't the best either.

It's not that I don't like default, it's that I like some other texture packs.
Default is fine with me, but things like Dokucraft and Steelfeather's Enchanted look so much better.

Wood. Filled with horrible speckles that make it look just as terrible as the original cobblestone texture. It makes the only blocks worth building with be brick, which is somewhat rare, or sandstone.

This is a 32*32 vesion of the default:
Faithful 32
The thing I especially like about it is that the glass is ACTUALLY useable!
EDIT: Oh yes, the water makes me wish i was blind.
dude, i already USE faithful
i want an even higher res but the same idea

I think that's all...

There's yet more to come!
Isn't Junkboy their artist?
Coterie Craft
Oh, me too. The default glass is so boring. More interesting glass is the first thing I look for.
My other problem with default is that it's too pixelly.
